Portuguese Football 2017/2018

We're gonna face you Portugal tomorrow. :D hope it will be a good game, even though I doubt it due to both managers.

We already have some injured players, so maybe tomorrow the team will be somewhat different than the one vs Spain.

Egypt-Portugal could very well happen in the round of 16 of the World Cup too, it should be a fun friendly and I doubt we'll be as boring tomorrow as we'll be in the actual tournament.

Trying to think the same way as he does, without the injured players:

1- Patricio
2 - Cedric
3 - Guerreiro
4 - Fonte
5 - Rolando
6 - Ruben Neves
7 - Bernardo Silva
8 - João Moutinho
9 - André Silva
10 - Cristiano
11 - João Mário

If Pepe, William or maybe Coentrão were ok they would start, but I don't know if he is going to put tomorrow his favourite lineup or vs Netherlands.

That's actually quite a very good lineup with supposedly a very good offense.

As for us, I hope Cuper mix things a little bit and try some new recruitsz but he's very conservative and will probably play most of his usual lineup.

Hadary, Fathy, Gabr, Hegazi, Abd El-Shafy, Tareq Hamed, ElNenny, Trezeguet, El Said, Salah and Marowan or Koka.

Those in bold are the ones I hope we try some new recruits ahead of them tomorrow and in the upcoming friendlies. El Said especially has big problems with his local club currently ( The club that I actually support :D ) that may affect his fitness the upcoming games.

Keep your eyes on Trezeguet if he plays by the way. :D

Hopefully we'll enjoy this. Looking forward for Hegazi vs Ronaldo.

I have to say this is based on his ideas, not sure if it will happen, but I guess in his mind he wants to play Egypt to create a scenario vs Morocco.

He plays in Europe or Egypt?

We play a very different style then Morocco. Morocco is more offensive than us, while Cuper tends to be defensive and using pace in attack. We're actually very similar to Portugal in play style.

Trezeguet plays in Turkey at the moment. Played for Anderlecht before but didn't get enough chances there, so decided to move down a bit till he finds better offer, instead of returning to Egypt, something many of our players in Europe preferred to do and was the reason why we didn't get many known players at Europe.

He's a very good and direct winger with pace and skill and became quickly one of the favorites of Cuper.

All the qualified teams just make friendlies with teams that are geographically close to their opposition in their groups.

It makes very little sense from a tactical or stylistic point of view as very rarely do the teams share any similarities.

Zonal Marking made a few humorous tweets about it anyway:

Actually maybe Iran style is more similar to Egypt than Morocco, but its never easy to recreate the perfect scenario.

Yeah, I can understand why the teams do this but it's still funny in a way, how all the teams are facing Morocco's neighbours in preparation.

At least the Tunisian FA should make a bit of dosh.

I'm looking forward to watching it here in Egypt and also seeing Trezeguet again, I haven't managed to watch him in a while. Should be a good match!

I am already going to downgrade our best case scenario. When we qualified and after the draw I thought with a good defensive organization and a bit of luck maybe we could reach the QF. After yesterday I am going to say now the best scenario for us is if we are able at least to make 4 points and qualify to the last 16.

And that will involve not having a heavy defeat vs Spain, at least a draw with Morocco, and a win over a revengfull Carlos Queiroz. Must say I have been warning to this for a few months.

Santos needs to be brave and take some players out from this squad imediately, Pepe needs to recover and I even would bring Ruben Dias to the squad, even without experience.

I would only choose 3 CB's for now: Pepe - Luis Neto - Ruben Dias, and in last case scenario one of Danilo or William play there if we have problems with suspended players, bring Ruben Neves, no need to choose 4 when they are simply awfull.

For now would start the competition with Pepe and Luis Neto.

Fonte, Alves, or Rolando simply are a waste of time, they have no more future, it smells all like 2014 again imo.

Calling it. I think they will be the big casualty of the World Cup Group Stages, losing to Spain and failing to beat Iran and Morocco (I thought this when the draw was made, last night only confirmed their inefficiencies).

Maybe yes or maybe not, it all depends on the lineup he chooses, yesterday from the 11 who started only Cristiano will play vs Spain, but agree Santos needs to take better decisions.

Only to add not everything is dark, the under 21's won 4:2 in Switzerland and it looks the under 19's are going to qualify for the next Euros after the under 17's did the same.

Lets hope Santos sees the light and he stops repeating the same crap with the call ups and lineups, even if the way we play won't be exciting.

Yesterday’s game we used players that wouldn’t be in Russia but our problem is our defense and knowing Santos plays defense then we do have a problem and yesterday I was able to confirm Santos can’t read a game...holland had 5 defenders and he didn’t change the game. Mendes is paying to Santos and Valverde for sure so he can have his player walking around.

 You mean walking Gomes?

Meanwhile Spain is beating Argentina 4:1, Iran beated Algeria 2:1 and Morocco won vs Uzbekistan.

This Spanish team under Lopetegui will expose Santos, if he doesn't have enough balls to leave some dead wood who was on the pitch yesterday we better not even take the plane to Russia

Changed my mind on Fonte, no time for changes.

We need to park the bus vs Spain with William and Danilo in midfield, Guerreiro plays in the role of João Mário, while Coentrão and Nélson Semedo play as fullbacks just because they play or played in Spain.

No time for being romantic or we will be murdered by Lopetegui. If we have to be the most hated team on the tournament so be it, bring back Aljubarrota. :p

35 year old Edinho has scored more league goals in 27 minutes than André Silva in the past year.

I know it's Easter but Jesus can feck off

He can take Battaglia and Piccini with him too

Can't even watch more us to play with this clown hope he leaves this season.

So now there are only 2 candidates for the title, Sporting lost at Braga and is out of the race if we weren't already.

We need to find a decent coach, followed by a new director of football, this formula doesn't work with JJ.

Oh god they are actually going to bottle the title...how the feck are Benfica still going to win it after the season they’ve had?

Not everything is bad, second time in a row Portugal wins the under 16 Montaigu tournament in France.

@Charles Miller do you know who is this guy who manages the Brazilian team?

Benfica winning it after having the worst CL performance in history would sum up this season pretty well. Noone deserves to win the league this season

Can't see Porto recovering now, remembers what happened with us 2 seasons ago.

Tend to watch the late Sunday and any Monday games.
Normally the only posters here who follow the results are the portuguese posters and @NYAS as far I can remember, incredible choke by Porto here, they lost the league today imo.

Don't talk me about that one, so fed up with Jorge Jesus don't even want to see us playing in Madrid, actually Braga is playing well under Abel, I was one of the posters here who said during the season he was crap, not only he embarassed Jesus but also Naggelsman 2 times in the Europa League.
