Day 10: Belgium vs Tunisia, South Korea vs Mexico and Germany vs Sweden

They haven't played any of the big nations since then, except maybe Portugal which was a draw.

People said this same thing at the Euro's and they got dumped out easily by Wales of all teams.

They were playing Denayer and Jordan Lukaku because of injuries. And both of them were shambolic against Wales.

Mexico are fun to watch. I really hope they proceed beyond RO16 but how unfortunate they will be if they finish top and brazil finish 2nd in their group.

I thought Iran would count as an Arab team. Think both African and Asian teams are set to get about 9 extra places at 2026...

I don't count Iran as Arab team. Most don't I believe.

Africa will get 9 places starting from 2026, don't know about Asia, but this will let several useless African teams to wualify which wont help the continent much tbf. It's only good because we ourselves will qualify more, but you will see teams you would have never seen without this.

How complacent were Germany last week? The Koreans are showing here that if you maintain a back four against this Mexican side they aren't half as dangerous. Hernandez in particular, lacks the out and out quality to break down a good defence.

Mexico will probably go and score 5 now to make me look silly, but if Germany hadn't been so arrogant as to think they could go out and stuff Mexico with their fullbacks flying forwards at every given opportunity, they had more than enough quality to win that match.

People tend to forget all the chances we had and that it very well could or should have ended 1-1. Wasn‘t to be, let’s see how it goes tonight.

I remember there being reports, allegedly from his dad, that we would sign him after the Rio Olympics.

We have been linked with him loads of times, mostly BS I believe.

Anyway LW is surely the last position we can ask for more players in it. We're having already someone there who wants to leave.

Lozano just had to be a LW, didn't he.
he's comfortable on the right too I believe. Hard worker and flexible in that he's creative and a good finisher, he'd work extremely hard on the right for us I reckon.

I'd imagine his scrappiness and overall cuntishness might also see him pick up a few yellows and the odd red. Does he have the physical build to handle the English game?

I know Son scores a lot for Spurs and all, but I've never been convinced by him when I've watched him play. He's always far too sloppy.

I think he'd be fine, there's been loads of little players in the premier league over the past five years or so, I think they get more protection now.
I think Fred is a bit scrappy as well though isn't he? Especially during matches with a lot of turnovers.
I don't think he's neccesarily more scrappy than Herrera and he gets away with it.

I remember. But I also remember the several chances Mexico squandered as well.

Hes clearly a quality player, we can pick flaws in any player if we want to.

Mexico has just more quality all over the field. Son is a one man army up front.

Giving the better nations safe slots for the world cup will help them a lot, because they can build up some experience and no matter how good or bad the WC always offers exposure to players to earn a transfer to Europe.

Khedira being dropped was to be expected, don't like Özil being left out though. Why bench your #10, one of the most productive players in the world, when you will most likely have to face a bus?

Yeah I agree with your point that most big teams will have no problem to secure qualification each time as Africa has about 6-7 big teams. The problem will be with 2-3 small teams that will sneak their way to World Cup to do nothing.

Playing a lot in World Cup gives experience though I agree. You can notice the difference between Algeria in 2010 and in 2014, looked completely different team.

Interesting. I wonder who starts instead? I assume Kroos, Werner and Muller are in, so that means another 3 from Gundogan, Goretzka, Draxler, Brandt, Rudy and Gomez.

Neuer - Kimmich, Boateng, Rüdiger, Hector - Gündogan, Kroos - Müller, Reus, Draxler - Werner, with Reus and Müller roaming a lot seems the most likely setup at the moment.
Perhaps Gomez in the mix as well, if Löw wants to make sure he gets sacked after the tournament.
