Day 10: Belgium vs Tunisia, South Korea vs Mexico and Germany vs Sweden

Interesting. I wonder who starts instead? I assume Kroos, Werner and Muller are in, so that means another 3 from Gundogan, Goretzka, Draxler, Brandt, Rudy and Gomez.
Gundogan for Khedira I think, Reus will also start. Not sure about others.

Giving the better nations safe slots for the world cup will help them a lot, because they can build up some experience and no matter how good or bad the WC always offers exposure to players to earn a transfer to Europe.

Khedira being dropped was to be expected, don't like Özil being left out though. Why bench your #10, one of the most productive players in the world, when you will most likely have to face a bus?

Because he was shit? And has been for a while?

Can't believe that Müller is going to start over Özil.

And i say that as a Bayern supporter who doesn't like Özil much.

If we go by the performances against Mexico, then Müller was by far the worst - not even close. And Özil at his worst is still good for the attacking flow, with the occasional penetrating pass.

Mexico are still proving quite useless when they attacking in numbers. Constantly making the wrong decisions.

Mexican players need to stay 3 hours just shooting at goal at the next training session. Horrible efforts and mile high and wide from the mark. Just appalled to see them waste good opportunities by trying for top corner all the time.

This ball doesn't seem to want to be twatted off the laces. All the long range efforts balloon up miles over the bar.

The few long range shots so far have all been hit with the inside of the foot, apart from Nacho's goal against Portugal.

It was the same against Germany. 1 goal was a laughable return for all the space and all the 2v2/3v2 situations that they found behind die Mannschaft's midfield.

I agree. We’ve seen so much bad finishing that there has to be something worth the ball.

It was the same with the ball in South Africa. Players spent ages trying to figure that thing out. Meanwhile the spectators behind the goal were getting peppered by wayward shots several times a game.

Seems like Adidas try to be too fancy with these World Cup balls.

I don't count Iran as Arab team. Most don't I believe.

Africa will get 9 places starting from 2026, don't know about Asia, but this will let several useless African teams to wualify which wont help the continent much tbf. It's only good because we ourselves will qualify more, but you will see teams you would have never seen without this.

Our qualification for the WC is very punitive.

Ghana and Cameroon are going through resets as they bring through their next wave of players, however Ivory Coast missed out on qualification by a point. I would have liked to see Congo debut on this WC as well (not at Egypt's expense, mind!)

It's been CAF's position that in the current 32 team format of the WC, 5 African representatives are sufficient. Adding 4 more spaces in a 48 team format would be great for African football though.

That was great there though. 2-0.

Cameroon current generation are really boring. I know they defeated us in the CON final but they were playing exactly the same negative football as us. Ghana were underwhelming in the qualification matches but I'm sure they'll bounce back. They always bring great players.

My main problem with the way African qualifications were going isn't in the number but that you never get a chance to correct a mistake. There's a very small space for mistakes. You need to top the group or you're out ! Other qualifications always give you a playoff or a second chance, not in Africa. A team like Ivory Coast was pretty unlucky to fall in the same group as Morocco with only one chance to qualify for one of them.

I we don't beat Panama by 6 goals tomorrow then in the final game vs Belgium, we have to beat them to win the group.

Likely that a draw vs Belgium will result in us finishing 2nd on GDm

Or we could beat, both Panama and Belgium and top the group.

Have you ever seen Javier Hernandez not scuff a shot?
