Varchester City 18/19 discussion

P.S I was browsing through some barcelona forum recently, and the love they have for Manchester city is nauseating. I read someone saying he was glad Sane is at city and not at United. Like wtf did we do to them.

Its the Guardiola effect, All his former clubs FO and almost every fan at his former clubs love him and want him to succeed. If given the choice, Barca and Bayern fans will want him back at our clubs especially with the way he is always attacked and his achievements belittled

I am a Bayern fan and the only reason I am interested in a PL race is hoping Guardiola succeeds and Mourinho fails. Now that Mou has gone, I have sympathy for his replacement prove how much damage Mourinho did

Fernandinho and Laporte out with injuries, the amount of games City are playing is going to cost us at the end.
All that crazy talk about the quadruple is just that, crazy talk. It would be a crazy amount of games until the end of the season

City have had very favourable cup draws so far and are only competing against one team in the league with a squad who keeps breaking records funded by an endless supply. It's not crazy. Very hard but not crazy.

On the Pep quotes about not being good enough to win the CL:
“We gave [Schalke] the first goal, we gave the second goal and we gave the red card. In that level, still we are not ready to fight for the Champions League, but the result is good."

Actual quote as opposed to the small section Espn ran with.
In other words "Doing stupid things like today means we're not ready to win the CL". Reads a lot more like calling out his players for what was a poor showing against the weakest team in the competition.

“[After] the red card, the last 15, 20 minutes, maybe they push more and score the third and the fourth and you are out.
“The result is good, [the tie] is not over. Hopefully our fans can help us in the second leg and hopefully we can improve for the future.”
“The way we played, the way we started, the way we finished, the way we reacted 10 against 11, the way we reacted at half-time, 2-1 [down], in the second half we played incredibly good."
“I’m more than delighted, but it’s not enough in this competition.
“When it happens in other stages, it’s over."

Missing Fernandinho and Laporte could hardly happen at a worse time for them.

probably agree but the run of fixtures it's happening in possibly couldn't be better.

West Ham
Bournemouth
Watford
Shalke
Swansea
Fulham
Cardiff

He is right. These details matter at the very highest level.

The way Pellegrini spoke before LIverpool match...West Ham will gift them the points.

Luckily the ref had mistaken Bernardo for Salah.

Pretty poor tonight, near enough everyone off the pace, Silva and KDB for me had shockers, zinky had a decent game though nearly cost us a goal. Gundo was good, marhez had no confidence at all, I'd stick with him for the next couple of game though to see if he can play his way out of the slump

eventhough we dominated possesion and had a crazy amount of shots, players are starting to show tiredness. 120 minutes played on the weekend and the mental stress of the final with penalties and the amount of games played so far is having a toll.

the games still have to be played, easy or not. if we keep going in all competitions it would be like 20 more games. That on top of all the extra games we have already played more than Liverpool. yeah, crazy talk

You couldn't ask for more favourable fixtures comming up. Bournemouth and Watford (both have just got battered by 5 goals). Then you have two cup ties, one which is already won and the other against a mid table championship side. Pep needs to rotate and rest his key players in those fixtures.
No excuses for tiredness should be used. Even after the international break you have Fulham and Cardiff. Surely City can't feck this up!

£650m 10 year deal signed with Puma

That's probably City's first ever none dodgy deal.

They've all the hard work done illegally but since nothing was done about it they'll reap the rewards of the success it brought. Similar to Chelsea.

It’s a deal to sponsor City and their 4 sister clubs, so it seems unfair that they can use the entire pot of money as the main City sponsorship.

It doesn't seem that excessive to begin with but how much are the sister clubs gonna take from that pot? In or around 60m seems the average for new deals to the top 6.

Barcelona - 100m
Real Madrid - 98m
Manchester United - 75m
Manchester City - 65m
Arsenal - 60m
Chelsea - 60m
Juventus - 46m
Bayern Munich - 42.5m

I guess you could argue as a sponsor you make your money back through sales, which I think a proper global fan base is City's biggest weakness.

Perhaps not a lot, but it is still a deal to Sponsor 5 clubs, albeit 1 larger club and 4 smaller ones. There still should be some adjustment to the figure to consider that, as there should be no advantage to a multi-billionaire owning a group of clubs.

This is very good. Have been saying for some time here that City are becoming the real deal (unfortunately so), though United fans seem unable to realize it. Success breads fans, and fans mean more money from sponsorship deals. It becomes a cycle.

They are able to, they just not want to because it makes life easier. CFG is fastly becoming the most powerful structure in the world of football and the other big clubs should find a way to stop it before it is too late. FIFA should ban such monster structures uniting clubs on all continents under a single umbrella.

The deal covers City group's five clubs. So how will that reflect in the club's accounts?

I don't like the ten year deals. By the end of our deal with Adidas, we could be well below market value.

All seems very dodgy to me. They are putting it out that they decided to drop Nike. When looking at revenues Puma are at around £3 Bill & Nike at £30 Bill. If Nike had thought there was any value in giving City a new deal they would have signed them up. With what we now know in regards to their other sponsorships, it wouldn't be a surprise if Mansour was putting some of some of his own money into this deal.

hahahaha

I wouldn't even bother replying to him as it's 100% obvious it's yet another incarnation of namco. High time the mods were given a heads up and ran his profile through their special namco detector....

I'm not sure it covers NYCFC. I believe MLS has a league wide kit sponsorship by addidas.

Edit: forgot they just bought the Chinese leave two side.

For those who think because this covers 6 clubs it's shady the other 5 teams have very little valuation in terms of kit sponsorship worth.
Cannot find any figures for clubs in the Australian A league and wouldn't be surprised if it was merely free gear with no money involved for most teams. Same goes for the Uruguayan club.
The Chinese club is considered in the scope of the deal but won't be if they get promoted. The Chinese super league has a league wide sponsorship from Nike.

That leaves only Girona to really recieve any monetary sums from this deal and based on what clubs receive in la Liga it won't be more than a couple million.

Said it when he signed but Mahrez just simply isn't good enough for a top side. His ability isn't good enough and lacks a brain. I've watched him loads for Algeria and he's been so poor so many times. A top quality player would shine massively for Algeria, he simply doesn't.

Buying Mahrez I think was one of our big mess ups of recent times. A player with quality who just doesn't seem to fit in well with the team and throws everything else off whilst costing a bomb and competing for spots we already have excellent, young, players for. Looks much better in a counterattacking side where he gets space to run at people than he does in our team where it's so often about movement and picking the right pass.

Buying Mahrez was bad enough, but to let Sancho leave makes it even worse.
Still think that Mahrez penalty miss at Anfield will cost City at end of season.

Sancho left a full year before Mahrez

I have never ever owned or even considered owning anything made by Puma. They are a poor mans nike. And I never bothered with them either. Good luck to city and another decade of shite kits. They haven't really had a decent home strip since the umbro one that Tevez wore in his first season there.

Meh

Haven't bought a football shirt since 2013, haven't played football since 2014. Hope the players are happy with whatever designs Puma come up with.

Beg to differ. Our home kits from the 10/11, 12/13, 14/15 seasons have all aged well and last season's shirt was lovely.

Okay, the De Jong one was basically the same as the season before with the white collar removed, but since then they have been consistently rubbish. The black collar one is horrendous and the other is a rip off of Coventry City. I am so glad that we are with adidas for another 7 years at least.
