The Championship 2018/19 - Play-off final

Isn't Kemar Roofe fit again, sure he was on the bench the other week. Guess Biesla is easing him back in so he's fully fit for the play offs.

Shite Leeds performance but thank feck it wasn’t a 4-0 thrashing

Easily could have been though, lucky Brentford didn't have their shooting boots on and were missing Benrahma.

Anyway you brought it upon yourselves - you can blame your idiot DoF and owner for that loss, their pathetic behaviour at the reverse fixture gave Brentford all the motivation they needed.

The ref dismissing a blatant penalty had something to do with it too.

The PFA Championship Team of the Year 2019 in full is as follows:

Darren Randolph (Middlesbrough),
Max Aarons (Norwich), Liam Cooper (Leeds), Pontus Jansson (Leeds), Jamal Lewis (Norwich),
Jack Grealish (Aston Villa), Oliver Norwood (Sheffield United), Pablo Hernandez (Leeds),
Billy Sharp (Sheffield United), Tammy Abraham (Aston Villa), Teemu Pukki (Norwich).

It will be interesting to see who fills that final playoff place. Hopefully it is not Middlesbrough, as predictably for a Tony Pulis team they play incredibly boring and ugly football, and have scored just 21 goals in 22 home matches (made worse by the fact that they among the largest financial resources in the division). I would prefer it to be Bristol City, as that would be something new and different as they haven't been in the top flight since 1980. Derby's pathetic whining after 'spygate' put me off them (that should have been a complete non-issue but English football and journalists like Henry Winter love a bit of moral outrage).

Barring an absolute miracle and assuming Leeds have to settle for playoffs now, I would prefer them to get promoted over West Brom or Villa, although their confidence is probably severely damaged. As a neutral I would find it quite boring if West Brom make an instant return to the Premier League, and Villa were last in the Premier League in 2016 (with their relegation coming after 4 consecutive seasons finishing 15th or 16th) compared to 2004 for Leeds.

Hopefully we can take at least 1 point from our last 2 matched to reach / break the 60 point barrier. Beating a poor Bolton team on Monday was not a surprise, but winning 4 consecutive games certainly was.

Dean Hernderson was unlucky to miss out

Bolton players are saying they won't play tomorrow because they haven't been paid again. Don't think that's ever happened before.

A takeover bid has been accepted but it hasn't gone through yet and the fella wanting to buy them wasn't exactly a great owner when he was at Watford. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laurence_Bassini

What a mess.

Confirmed it's off by the club - feel sorry for all the Bees fans who have already travelled, have travel booked and paid for tickets, what a shambles. Shame as was hoping for a rare away win this season too. Interested to see how the EFL handle this now.

Sheffield United 2-0 up. All but confirming promotion barring a 13 goal swing. Pipping Leeds too!

Reckon Villa will come up via the playoffs. 11 wins a row for them at the moment!

A huge win for Derby away to Bristol City in the battle for 6th place, effectively knocking them out of contention.

They are level on points with Middlesbrough, but have a game in hand and a better goal difference. I don't particularly like them, but better them than the boring Middlesbrough under the dodgy dinosaur Pulis

Completely forgot about that, Derby-Leeds is very likely to be a play off now so that will add some spice.

Sheffield United fully deserve this promotion. Just an example of a talented manager who's built a club up on relatively minimal resources and also playing the right way.

Think they'll surprise a fair few with how they play next year.

Everyones banging on about Max Aarons who has impressed this season for Norwich no doubt. But Jayden Bogle has been in excellent form in the last month or so. 18 year old rightback with 2 goals and 4 assists in the last 10 games. Impressive.

My two boys are in the Norwich academy, well chuffed for Norwich, brilliant team, superbly run, and Farke is a genius,
They put faith in youth and it shows, brilliant scenes.

Is Farke yet another Klopp lackey by any chance?
Kinda, he came from Dortmund b team essentially, but post Klopp,
It shows how a club when run correctly with a decent setup can achieve.

I hope he doesn’t start wearing glasses and a baseball cap next season.

Norwich got some interesting attacking players who could well shine but they really need to sort their defence out.

Conceded nearly 60 goals at championship level. We've seen with Fulham just trying to outscore prem teams dosen't really work.

They have a very young defence, love the look of Ben Godfrey. He’s got a big chance of making it

Full backs are both young and attacking too

But yeah they may need to add some defensive experience

This right here,
Farke will add a touch of experience im sure, I think they look a step above Fulham in terms of development at the moment but a big summer is in order.

Managed to get to some Norwich games of late and chuffed they’ve gone up. They play the best football in the division and have built that squad on a comparatively small budget. If you think about the players they’ve let go in recent years: Murphy twins, Maddison, Snodgrass, Pritchard, Brady, Redmond etc. and their modest outgoings you can’t be anything but full of praise for Farke and the club on how they’ve achieved this.

Last year Norwich finished 14th with 60 points. According to the commentators on Sky, Norwich were on the brink of administration last summer and needed to raise £30million. One person who deserves credit is Stuart Webber ( https://trainingground.guru/articles/stuart-webber-climb-of-the-canaries). He was appointed as Norwich City's first Sporting Director in April 2017, he arrived at a club with a massive wage bill.

Note how most of these players have greatly contributed to Norwich's promotion

Depends what you mean, they are almost certainly going to win the league so its the most successful football but if you mean best in the terms of aesthetically pleasing there's some other teams that will have a shout at that. TBH I defy any regular watchers of Championship football to find a better footballing side then Brentford when they are on song at home. Just a shame they can't repeat it away from home on a regular basis, probably having the youngest squad in the division might have something to do with it. Sheffield United have also been a breath of fresh air in the division this year with a unique style of play that must have come as such a relief to the fans who have had to endure many years of hoofball. Even Leeds pressing game has, at times, been superb - if only Bielsa had access to Pep's "doctors" maybe the season would have been different for them.

Anyone watching Leeds vs Villa?

A player was down for Villa. Leeds were about to put the ball out at the last second decided to go against it. Villa stopped and Leeds went on to score.

Absolute madness. Typical Leeds scum!
