Solskjaer: United need to recruit smart
“It’s been a rollercoaster. We had a fantastic start, everyone just enjoyed, when you win games, you’re confident, you smile, you start to enjoy yourself. Then we got a few injuries and it’s been ups and downs the last two months but that’s football, that’s human beings, it’s not like Football Manager. You’ve got to deal with different stuff outside football as well. There have been highs and lows but I’ve enjoyed it, it’s a great challenge, I’ve not gone to bed one night worrying about what’s gonna happen because I love coming in, the boys are fantastic.

“It’s a great challenge but it’s a great responsibility as well because this club is huge. The media and everyone’s criticising us as soon as they’ve got a chance. We’ve just got to stick together, we’ve been through difficult periods before but we’ve got to come through it as a team. But we’ve got to do it together. We’ve got to recruit smart, keep blooding the youngsters and we’’ll be fine.”

Andy Goldstein then speaks ‘on behalf of all the United fans around the world’ and assures Solskjaer he is the best man for the job. That seemed a bit forced after what Pochettino did last night.

The boys haven't been fantastic Ole and deep down you know it, however obviously you cannot express those views in public with a game still to play on Sunday. The media and everyone are not so much having a go at you, it's the players who they rightfully feel are not working hard enough for much of the season.

Luke Shaw has the highest average rating on here for this season 6.3. Herrera 6.2. Lindelof and De Gea 6.1 https://www.redcafe.net/players/2018-19/all

He has won 6 man of the match awards on here this season. Pogba 10. Several players have 5.

So a perfectly decent choice as Player of the Season. (I'm not a fan of his and would happily have sold him last summer, yet even I have been impressed by his performances).

Unlike several other contributors, I had Chong as the best U23 player, though he could have played a bit better. Angel Gomes improved significantly on last season, but not quite as good as Chong, in my view.

Mason Greenwood clearly the outstanding performer at U18 level.

A left back with 1 goal and 4 assists wins player of the year award in united's worst defensive season in the premier league. Just rubbing salt on the wounds at this point.

Only thing I can say about Shaw's performances is that he's not been completely awful like some of our other players this season.

True. Under Woodward we have started rewarding mediocrity and cant even get the player of the season analysis right. Now wonder why the team is in this position.

Well done. Highlights how bad we've been this year when a player who's only been decent is in fact our best. For me it actually was him or Lindeloff.

Grats fat arse.

Please be good forever and be consistent, We need good players.

Not a bad choice. Really it's only him or Lindelof that have played at a consistent level throughout the season. Neither were spectacular, but we knew what we were getting with them. Too many of the names that should be winning these individual awards went missing.

This perfectly encapsulates how our individuals performed over the season.

I bet you were itching to create this thread, irrespective of who won it.

Lindelof deserved it.

It's really absurd giving it to him on the back of two mistakes vs city and Huddersfield which costed us top 4 mathematically.

I confess I was curious to see who will win it. I haven't been as curious about it since the treble season. That was a hell of a race to the top while this is a hell of a race to the bottom

I would have thought it would go to Lindelof or our assist main man Pogba though

He is among our hardest working players but apart from that I see little to be excited about. He offers nothing going forward and makes loads of mistakes. The best thing I can say is that he is not Ashley Young.

State of this thread

He's 'solid' because his attacking game doesn't exist. If he actually got forward he'll have been exposed more in the back. He's not solid actually but limited. There's some recent graphics that have proven it.

Yes and his weight is not optimal compared to other fullbacks- it's blatantly obvious everyone can see it.
Reality is the whole team is replaceable just some is more urgent than others.

He's one of our best dribblers and joint 2nd most through balls with Mata. Thats plenty in attack

Shaw has probably been the best of a poor bunch, although his form has declined massively over the past month (and mistakes increased). But well done Luke nonetheless, definitely his best devil at Old Trafford to date.

Correct decision. Fell away towards the end of the season (like everyone fecking else) but definitely our best/most consistent performer over the season as a whole. Lindelof a close second.

Guess we should be pleased an outfield player wins for a change. Although that’s mainly because De Gea has been unusually shite.

This fecking season...

Well done Luke. Hopefully you’ll have better/ more motivated players around you next season.
Not a great season for anyone, but he was the most consistent player we had.

It's nothing to do with Woodward. It's the players' choice. The Reserve and Youth team player awards are given by the coaches.

Chong has been good while Greenwood has been a standout. Don't know how you can argue with those choices.

It's getting stupid on here to put the blame on Woody for everything
