WWC19 | Final: USA v Netherlands

You don't say?

You say that, but it seems like people in this thread genuinely think because a female player looks good technically/looks good against other women's teams, that means she could do it at the top level against the men.

I've enjoyed this world cup, the women's game is improving and that's fantastic .. but it's still nowhere near the men's game and a lot of progress still has to be made to even reach the standard of the lower leagues.

Or not. But, yes, I concede it was a penalty. I’m just tired of VAR deciding half the games, and half the times it’s questionable as to wether it should be VaRd or not.
I mean, isn't the point of VAR exactly to decide games in a fair way? I was getting tired of offside goals deciding games.

I mean that without VAR Football reffing used to have a lot of factors like big team Vs small team , home team Vs away team , start of game Vs end of game and of course how big the game was . Refs would be very hesitant to give that penalty in a world cup final on just one view that they get but now VAR has made everything to be by the book . I am not really sure if that's a good thing or bad

Interesting how 2010 world cup final would've played out if VAR had been in use in those days.

Very difficult game for Howard Webb to ref but it was obvious he didn't want to send anyone off early on.

Maradona also scored a goal with his hand in a World Cup quarterfinal...

There is a girl in the United woman’s team who is probably better than anything I’ve seen at this tournament so happily play her over Lingard or Mata.

Don't be daft.

So refs now make the correct calls instead of making shit up due to which team it is or the time in the match and you're not sure whether that is good or bad? Are you joking? :wenger:

I doubt anyone here really believes this.

Difficult to watch when the quality is not even non league level...

VVD practically going to get a balon d'or for letting Sissoko shoot.;)

You see defending like that in the mens game all the time, backing off when midfielders are running at back 4.
That was a one on one situation though and VVD did the only and right thing. The entire Dutch backline was in front of lavelle before she shot.

Usa isnt really a country anyway. They're just Europeans who couldnt make it here and fled.

On the other hand, if that penalty wasn't given and the Dutch won or whatever. The game would have been "decided" by an incorrect refereeing decision.

There a wonderful invention that comes with TVs free of charge its called a remote control.

Why not use it and put something you'd feel happy watching on the tv.

WE GET IT YOU THINK WOMANS FOOTBALL IS SHIT
This is the first match I have seen in years. Have no idea. Why the caps?
You're cool and a real man.
I have seen plenty of worse mens WC games. Hell, plenty of recent MUFC games have been worse.
I don't get this..

I was genuinely asking if this is as good as it gets or is this a scrappy match.

I want to see good football. I dont care if its mens or womens.. I watch championship level matches, that is the lowest level I watch with any regularity (ie, I dont watch league one/two matches).. so that was the yardstick.

Just wanted to know if Women's football is at that level yet..

Unfortunately it's not as straight forward as that . All those things are obviously bad and so VAR removes them but I am not sure every decision being by the book is a good idea either as we have seen repeatedly with handballs this tournament

People are clearly making cynical or hyperbolic points to either criticize United players or generate comments like yours.

I'd say this is in the lower bracket of matches I've watched this tournament. The players look a little tired and the Dutch look a little scared.

But tbf I can't remember the last time I saw a classic national tournament final. Always seems like they're a bit of a letdown.

The handball thing is just a shit new interpretation of the rule. That has to be changed, not VAR.

This match is likely on the higher end quality wise that I've seen of the Women's game (not much, just Australia's games and a few United games). If anything I would say the keeper s in this game have been much better than I've seen previously

Don’t know why people are being so sensitive but ok.
