F1 2022 Season

Max proving he is the best driver on the grid yet again. It's refreshing to see 2 very talented drivers race each other to their absolute maximum for the win, it's been a while.

I swear it’s not been a while because it happened all of last season

Just when you thought it was over...they pull you back in again! :(
Well you must understand those Lewis fanboys being happy when their boy get a point for the fastest lap in that slow car... oh wait no, it was the point for 10th place, honest mistake.

Just when you thought it was over...they pull you back in again! :(

It isn’t a Max vs Hamilton or whoever thing. I don’t like Hamilton all that much to care about that “battle”, Max just whines away on the radio.

I just like the in race battles these days, talent and moves. My fan and genuine watching days of Irvine and Schum, mixed in with Team Jordan are long gone - but intrigued by the new cars.

They can't help themselves:

Super race, I'm really impressed with Leclerc again.

My only concern is wasn't max around 1.7 seconds away under the opening of the VSC and when it ended he's just 1 second? That's a huge gain from being way off DRS to then allowing him to reel Leclerc in. You could say it was going to happen anyway but Max got past him at 47 of 50. If something dodgy did happen under the VSC, Leclerc may have held on to lap 50 if the gap was properly maintained.

I think the VSC delta thing is monitored automatically, it would’ve been flagged straight away. max at one point had dropped 4 seconds behind. Maybe he played it smart. Used all his Delta quota to speed up and warm tires for when he thought VSC would be ending. Maybe Charles got the green light at a place where he wasn’t able to get to racing speed right away.

I don’t really like VSC. At least the way it’s implemented right now.

When Hamilton wins, it's because of his superior driving skills.
Yet when he finishes down the order it's because of his car.

Carlos Sainz needs to win a GP either in Australia or imola otherwise he really is going to be the support cast for leclerc. Another weekend and he is nowhere near the battle between max and leclerc.

I was thinking that too. I've always thought of them as a pretty even, 1a and 1b kind of tandem but it just seems that Leclerc is consistently faster now and Sainz will end up being a trusty nr.2 for him.

Was a good battle throughout! Max on the radio though, comes across as the ultimate whingebag. Questions everything when he should really just concentrate on his racing.

Even his team had to keep reminding him to keep his head down and concentrate.

So you believe that the Mercedes is currently a race winning car???
And where was Leclerc last year. Answer. He was in a poor car

If max caught up leclerc during VSC it means leclerc fecked up and not max.

Am I right in saying the straight line speed advantage was due to car set up? (Between Max and Charles)

If so, wonder why Ferrari set up this way? I presume because analytics concluded it but still very odd when you consider it’s not just about fastest lap time but also about having pace in the right parts of the track when it comes to the race.

Another very exciting race though. Shame about some of the retirements, especially Alonso who was on fire.

This Max/Charles battle is going to be very exciting this season. But as much as it’s about the drivers, it’s also in large parts down to all the engineers back in the factory rolling out updates quickly and effectively to keep up as the season goes on - which is much more of a factor than it’s been in the last few years given the regulation changes.
Difficult to know which engine has the best power, but it's clear the Honda/Ferrari engines are doing better than Mercedes right now.

Red Bull's cars seem to be happier running at lower downforce levels which is the most important thing for top speeds. Leclerc said himself after the race they chose to go for a higher downforce setup, which he admitted was maybe not quite the right way to go.

The idea behind it is you can look after your tyres better, they heat up faster and can make you faster through the twisty 2nd sector. If you can build up a big enough gap then they can't get DRS down the straight.

It was working fine up until the VSC point, then for whatever reason Max was able to get within the 1 second mark. With the new regulations the cars are clearly able to stick closer than before and maintain the DRS. In previous years after 3/4 laps he would have had to back off.

It was nice seeing the interview on sky after the race with Magnussen, Norris and Ocon. They were beaming about the new cars and Ocon said it was like driving go karts which is a great sign.

I know almost nothing about F1. So can anyone tell me why Lewis Hamilton is performing so poorly this season? What has changed this season regarding his car?

Everyone's car is brand new this year, due to an entirely new set of rules. Ferrari and Red Bull have nailed the new rules pretty well, whereas Mercedes haven't done so well - the engine is a bit underpowered, the car struggles with porpoising (basically bouncing), and Lewis tried out an out-there setup for qualification this weekend, which made the car "undriveable" in his words.

You really dont like him do you.
Even when he does nothing to moan at, you make something up

I've got the more rabid anti-Hamilton posters on ignore, and I recommend it, it makes this thread a much better read - mostly sensible discussions and cuts out a lot of the childish sniping.

bernie ecclestones (grandfather of f1) used to ensure that hamilton always won races and championships as this helped to cover up racist things he was responsible for in his past (one of his grandchildren was hitler.) he would often be heard to say “how can i be racist? i fix things so an untalented black driver wins all the time in the fastest car.”

then he got so old and so racist that he sold his f1 company to someone else who isn’t that bothered about hamilton winning all the time. so the mercedes car is slow now without all the outside interference and hamilton is being shown up for being really slow, even compared to a teammate whose face was clearly made in a factory.

Ok. Thanks for the reply.

You forgot the part about an the son of a prominant ex facist dressing up as a nazi for orgies… oh wait, that actually happened

I genuinely burst out laughing at this. Excellent!

I dont like to block, I would rather see what they are posting and most of the time laugh to my self.
What I dont get more on Facebook than here, is Max and Leclerc are now in the best cars that is clear to see , but it's down to them has drivers not the car , but when Lewis was winning it was all down to the car and he was lucky anybody could win in that car
Maybe I am being too simplistic, but is F1 not about the best drivers , having the best cars, you have to have both to win titles.
Max and Lewis last season had the best cars and we had a good fight, where was Leclerc ?
This season Max and Leclerc have the best cars, Lewis is nowhere, no point having a WC driver if you give him a crap car.
I dont dislike Max, he is a WC driver, I like Leclerc very good driver, just not quite up to Max.
Lewis is still a WC driver and when Mercedes sort the car out, he will be challenging, the question is will they do it to be in with a chance this year.

The problem is that you're expecting people with an irrational hatred of Hamilton to be rational when posting about him. If you laugh to yourself most of the time but then still bite, you give the trolls what they want.

Most top quality drivers will win the title if they're in the best car, it's just how it is. If Hamilton wasn't in the Mercedes of recent years, Rosberg might be a 6x world champ himself.

Some drivers like Leclerc have been held back by an average car, the likes of Norris also in a similar bracket. Only once they're given a chance in a top quality car will they show if they have it.

If Max was still in the Alphatauri for instance, would he be getting better results than Gasly? it's hard to say. You're only as good as your car in f1.

Remember how cut throat Red Bull were with their drivers. I thought Buemi was a good driver (went onto having a good career) but he was let go after a few mistakes. Max the child prodigy was given time. You need to know the right people in this sport too. There are good drivers up and down the grid.
