I think they do... any Government that wants to get to the heart of the 'immigration issue' and break its effect as a 'political weapon', has to stop people attempting to arrive illegally and be seen to be doing so successfully.
Immigration has been for centuries and is now and in the future, important to this country; however it needs a proper 'raft' of interlinking policies. This is not just about legality, or numbers or origins or entry points, but a way to 'smooth' out the effects on the existing population, when sudden increase in numbers, caused by 'refugee situations' occurring elsewhere in the world. Its something to be planned for, just like the NHS, because its important to those who want to come and to those already here and it has to be dealt with in a way that doesn't allow extremists to 'weaponise' it..
Climate Change, Energy Needs and Planned Immigration are the three major issues to be solved, (or proper attempts to solve) over the next fifty years, or we are all off to hell in a hand cart!
