Sporting Lisbon vs. Manchester United - Wednesday 19 September 2007 (19:45 BST)

I bet Giggs is outstanding tonight and scores a goal, and sets up 2.

If that happened, it would be quite funny given the reactions to his position in the team.

Be reasonable Richter, nobody is earning any red points here for pretending to not be puzzled by Giggs persitantly starting upfront for us, despite us so obviously having better strikers than him.

Not really, non of us know what Saha's situation is and up until tonight Rooney hasn't been available so who else could we have played?

I for one think Giggs has to play tonight, but I am surprised that Nani starts and not Tevez.

How can you argue with Scholes' second yellow card, it was a reckless tackle that stopped their promising attack.

Whats this about?

Scholes is arguably one of the worst disciplined players ever.

He deserves nearly all red cards he gets, because he makes retarded decisions.

Don't get me wrong, Scholes is one of my all-time favourite players, but his tackling and discipline is awful.

Has Giggs ever scored a hat-trick in his career?

Who cares... the point is that there's absolutely no use in moaning before we've even seen how well Giggs and the rest of the team performs.

I expect us to win, whatever the line up is. We are a far better team then Sporting, now lets go and stuff them.

I'm not really too surprised that Giggs starts in arguably Tevez's position.

Fergie has probably gone for comfort in experience. He probably thought he needed a senior player up front to help the others around him, especially the younger few like Nani, Ronaldo and Rooney.

True, i wouldv'e liked to see Tevez in this match but hey, who knows Sporting better than Nani. Hopefully he knows their weaknesses and he'll exploit that.....thats the hope.

Fergie's bottled it again I am afraid, we are going 451 IMO with Giggs playing in the MF. If Hargreaves had been fit, he would have played in the middle with Giggs on the wings.

Try to calm down and look at the situation rationally

Fergie said on Saturday, until he gets the front players fit and ready he will have to play this way - Tevez has played a lot of football recently without a pre-season, while Saha is feeling his way back to fitness. Rooney obviously is coming back from a broken toe. If we can get them ready for the Chelsea match, that should take priority.

If you think Fergie actually wants to play Giggs up front instead of Tevez and Saha, you need a reality check.

You're over-reacting, which is pointless at this stage.

I didn't mean Caf tradition as a bad thing, complaining about the line up is something I have done the last 6 years. I still can't understand why Tevez is on the bench...

Who knows Nani better than Sporting? Ah who cares, lets stuff them. I predict 2-0 to us (Rooney x2)

I am surprised no Tevez, after his performance against Everton.

Tevez isn't 100% fit, this is the Champions League....I can understand why he has played Giggs ahead if he didn't think Tevez was able to play the match fully fit.

Anyway, I would much rather have Tevez coming on as a super-sub for the last 45-30 minutes then have him tire out by half-time and decrease our attack.

Good point.

Why the feck don't we attack anyone in Europe? When we do we play some amazing stuff, Roma, Celtic and Milan at OT, when we paly the defensive shite we get beat by fecking Celtic.

Anyway, this is all pretty irrelevant.

Fergie hinted before today, that if the strikers Tevez and Saha were not fit enough, then they would not start today. This seems to be the case, so I can't really see why it's such a shock to people.

I wouldn't want Tevez playing if he isn't fully fit. He looked good last game, but Fergie knows a lot more about his fitness then us, and if he assures us he isn't ready yet to play 9 minutes in his first Champions League match then so be it, I'll look forward to him coming on as a super sub, or next match.

Until i hear of an actual injury, people shouldn't just blindly defend Fergie and say Saha and Tevez are not fit, despite not hearing that this is the case.

Still wouldn't be the point. If Eagles started ahead of Ronaldo, people would have a right to be annoyed, regardless of whether Eagles may well score a goal in the next hour. Giggs may play well, so what? It's obvious Tevez and Saha should be ahead of him.

I can accept that i guess, although knowing Fergie, i still expect him to start Giggs against Chelsea. Also, he should have benched Rooney if he were so worried about Chelsea. After all, he hasn't played for ages.

In any case, what about trying to win tonight? Do we get less points for beating Sporting than we do for beating Chelsea?

So you won't defend Fergie until confirmation that Tevez and Saha are unfit, but it's ok for you to completely lose your rag and call Fergie a "retard" without any knowledge whatsoever of their current state? Sounds reasonable.

If Tevez, Saha, and Rooney are fit for Sunday, at least two of them will start, I am sure of that. Rooney is playing tonight so he can get match fitness and we can gauge how ready he is.

Come on, don't be stupid, of course Chelsea is a bigger game than this one. From a realistic view, a point is a good result here. The important thing is not to lose in the group stage, whereas Chelsea on Sunday is one of the biggest matches of our season.

Also, don't forget subs are actually able to come on and make an impact!

People shouldn't blindly attack Fergie either without knowing the full fitness situations

Are you comparing Giggs to Eagles? You do not know Tevez and Saha's fitness situations so you cannot say who should be ahead of who. IF Tevez and Saha are fuly fit then I agree with you.

I think the big thing tonight is that SAF can actually bring on players that will make a difference whereas for the past couple of seasons we have had little or no option on the bench.

I'm happy with the selection.

Carry on.
