Liverpool Vs Manchester United

Papers this morning say Rooney and Fletcher both "major doubts" and unlikely to feature, while Torres will definitely be ready and Gerrard is gonna have a late fitness test.

Feck.

Yeah heard this mate. Johnson's a cert to start as well.
All this bleating from FSW and it looks like we're the side going in light. At least it will take away the excuses when we thrash them.

So there's a very real chance we're going to Anfield to play against Liverpool's strongest possible XI, without arguably the two players who are most important to us in games against top four opposition.

A united victory will turn the whole "two man team" argument nicely on it's head.

Bring it on.

I'd say that we're fecked without Rooney and Fletcher. Here's hoping it's smoke and mirrors from Fergie.

If there was a chance Rooney to miss the game, Berbatov wouldn't have played 90 min. vs CSKA. I reckon that Rooney is a cert. Both teams will play with their best players.

That's a good point.

Mind you, I'm not sure SAF would have wanted to leave Owen up top on his own.

the biggest question is : has rooney become dad yet?

if yes, he will score a hattrick
if no, owen will score a hattrick

Wait for Fergie's press conference before i start panicking about Rooney.

Fletch and Rooney still doubts - Manchester United Official Web Site

Wayne Rooney is "desperate" to play against Liverpool on Sunday, but Sir Alex Ferguson still has doubts over the fitness of United's no.10 and team-mate Darren Fletcher ahead of the visit to Anfield.

Rooney has been struggling with a calf injury and missed the games against Bolton Wanderers and CSKA Moscow in the last week, while Fletcher was also absent for both matches with a foot injury.

"On the injury front I can't give a clear picture, there are still some doubts about Rooney and Fletcher," Sir Alex said on Friday.

Getting the influential pair ready for the game is now the major aim for United's medical and coaching staff, though Sir Alex doesn't doubt their keenness to return, particularly Rooney's.

"He is always desperate to play, that's the nature of the boy," said the boss. "Of course, you can't let that cloud the realistic side of things. It's going to be important how he does in training on Saturday. We'll see if Wayne does train on Saturday and then we'll have a better idea."

The good news for United is that Patrice Evra and Ryan Giggs, who both picked up knocks against Bolton and didn't travel to Moscow, have both been passed fit, while Ji-sung Park has definitely been ruled out.

"Patrice is fit, and Ryan is also fine, but Ji-sung is out unfortunately," the boss added. "Everyone is fit from after Wednesday's game in Moscow."

There you go, from the gaffers mouth.

If Rooney/Fletch play, and Gerrard/Torres don't, we'll be comfortable. If it's the other way round, we're in for a tough game and if none of them play we'll still be alright :D

If it's a choice of Rooney or Fletcher (hypothetically), I'd probably say Fletcher. Rooney is our best player but Owen could come in and do a good job, he'll be desperate to perform, whereas there is nobody that can really replace Fletcher from those who are fit.

Hopefully both are back. I'd fancy our chances against anyone with those two and the rest of our current squad.

I'm really not concerned about Fletcher or Rooney in all honesty. Hopefully Rooney will be on the bench for insurance but i honestly don't think we need him. I fancy Berbatov and Owen would rip Carragher and Skrtel too pieces anyway.

Worst case scenario if players that are doubtful don't make it:

VDS
O'Shea Ferdinand Vidic Evra
Valencia Carrick Anderson Giggs
Berbatov Owen

0-2.

I wish was that simple. Whatever elleven we put out on Sunday we will have to be up for it
to get anything out of it. The same goes for Liverpool.
A half fit Gerrard could be easier to handle than an in form Benayoun behind Torres.
Likewise with a half fit Rooney vs. Owen with a point to prove.

Personally, we can cope without Rooney imo. But having Fletcher in midfield would make us far stronger! Having said that, i'd still fancy us to win without the pair of em.

Can't wait for this game.

Yeah, we were never a two man team and the team u selected is still strong. We need Carrick and Anderson to put up top draw performances and then I'm sure we'll win.

I reckon, if we guard against complacency and our defence plays as they should, we can do 'em.

2 - 0 to us

That's key.

Rio and Vida have finally played a couple of games together in a row and VdS is baclk. No reason we can't finally regain some of that defensive solidity we relied on last season.

I can see us setting up against them in a very similar way to the way we played in Moscow, with the main priority being keeping a clean sheet.

I'm more concerned about midfield to be honest. If Fletcher is out, i'm hoping for a Giggs - Anderson pairing in the middle of a 442, with Berba and Owen upfront. But I have a feeling SAF fancies Scholes for this game, and I do worry about Scholes in bigger games these days. He's a genius, but if paired with the wrong partner he's a liability, and I don't wanna see us playing at Anfield with 10 men.

Berba or Owen if played as lone striker will end up badly isolated so i'm desperately hoping for a 442.

I can't see Owen starting, he'll make more of an impact coming on.

If Rooneys out he might give Giggs that free role just behind Berbasex

Is Rooney available ?

It's unlikely that Rooney will make the game lads :(

not a chance this is real, unless it is which will be the shock of the year for me

there are smoke and mirrors every year from both fergie and rafa

I know exactly what you mean mate. Liverpool deliberately lost against Lyon to give us a false sense of security & Gerrard limping off was the final piece in the plan. There was even a wink between himself & Rafa.....

Take a bow Rafa & Stevie G - the word genius doesnt even come close to describe those pair

 of course losing wasn't smoke and mirrors, gerrard could easily have been however i would have expected it later.

also there was never anything wrong with johnson and torres, similar giggs and fletcher and likely rooney

Pretty fecking cool image that

I know it won't happen but I'd love to see Obertan make his debut at some point during this game. Sometimes the unknown is what unsettles a team and his pace could rip a very pedestrian Liverpool back four a new arsehole.

I certainly think this is a game in which we need to attack from the start. An early goal from us and the crowd and players will be down.
