Who do you want United to sign?

Most 'important' player dosnt mean most gifted though does it? which is what Bilic said to Redknapp about Kranjcar....Rooneys always been our most important player dosnt mean he was as gifted as Ronaldo...two different things.

Anyway this is all semantics really.

Except that Rooney clearly wasn't our most important player. Ronaldo was.

It's all about the world cup, sit tight and wait.. you'll see how good some of these 'potential' superstars really are. Once they prove they can play at highest level we snap them up.

i'll jump on the muppet bandwagon

Buy krasic, dzeko and yaya toure. We need physical strength in the team toure and dzeko give us that, krasic is a goalscoring midfielder who can play in a 3 or wide. Dzeko gives us an aerial threat for the first time in years(ronaldo aside). Toure can fill in at the back if needed.

Sell Nani, Tosic (why keep him if he never gonna play)

krasic looks the part but may prove to be a flash in the pan, either way i think we need someone who can produce something a little bit different and to compliment the dir3ect style of valencia on the right, krasic looks a reasonable shout. If i could take my pick i still think ribery could be magic for us, then again not even sure how hes playin for bayern atm. realistically i can see no one coming this window.

The world cup is a bit of a bitch for the transfer market. Player's prices will soar up. So I won't be surprised if SAF won't able to find players which are value for money.

can he play left?

Howz`about Mathew Etherington? Yes I know he isn`t ideal but he could do a decent job for us whilst Obertan matures or until Fergie discovers what a good footballer Nani is. A straight swap for Park should seal it. (Sorry Park but Stoke is your level)

seriously? etherington for park? surely we can do better than that.

Lower your expectations dear boy. After all Michael Owen is a Manchester United player in 2010. Etherington is a decent left sided pro who is doing alright in an average side like Stoke. I do believe he could be a stop gap for us until we materialise a world class left sided wide player. We urgently need better (or ANY) service to our forwards.

I hope we sell any of our expensive players we've bought in recent seasons who havent performed to the required level, even though I'm one of the bigger fans of Nani on here and he'd most likely be one of them.

I hope we sell them so that we will definately have a bit of cash to sign whoever we need to to improve the team we play against the best sides in europe (probably 4-3-3 because we could sign Ribery and we'd probably still opt out of playing 4-4-2 in those matches). I could list names all day long, but its probably more important that Sir Alex signs the player he wants and has already decided how to use effectively, than the names I put forward and him using them in the 'wrong' way. Hopefully whoever it is, Sir Alex will be more sure of how to use them than he was with Berbatov.

In a perfect world I would sign:

Kacar from Hertha Berlin a good Central Midfielder who can attack and drop back if needed

I mentioned this in the Kacar thread, but where would you play him? You'd have to drop one of Carrick or Fletcher.

I'm looking for big things in 2010 from Kacar, last year injuries made it difficult for him.

Am I understanding this correctly - do you have any influence over who Alex signs?

No. So why waste energy typing out a list?

Its one thing identifying players who I deem among the best in their positions and another thing to pick which one of them we should sign, instead of the others.

For example when we signed Cristiano Ronaldo, Quaresma was looking the more useful player for Sporting Lisbon. I'd have had him ahead of Ronaldo at that time. He was showing more quality. But it turns out Cristiano Ronaldo had the character to come here and become the best in the world, and Quaresma had the character of.... Quaresma.

As I said, its more important Sir Alex picks the players where he's sure how to get the best of them. It would be no good if he signed Banega and played him in the hole behind Rooney or something. Or Berbatov behind Rooney...

Im sorry but i just cant lower my expectations that much, tbh id rather stick than twist with etherington, i do agree about the need for a player in that position but just dont think hes our man.

We never sign the player I suggest!

Right now up front, I think Dzeko would be a cracking signing for us

I think another creative midfield player would hit the spot too, although in an absence of any player in particular in mind here, I'm gunna suggest we clone Paul Scholes

A centre-back, a goalscoring midfielder and a goalscorer up front, a powerful striker who gets goals.

well here's my list -

van der vart (is he still alive?)
rodeaga (he's a handful at times)
cb (a healthy selection from who we have.)

TBH i'd be surprised if fergie went into pocket especially for the above.

Doubtful anyone in January, this is for at the end of the season.

I don't think VDS will be around next season with his wife's problems, so I'd be after a keeper. Kuszczak has done well in his run of games, but I don't think he's a future #1. The two German lads are my personal faves, Nueur has impressed me more in the little I've seen of the two of them, but Adler is ahead of him for Germany and is a Man Utd fan. Alternatively if we weren't confident in any of the younger keepers (or needed to save money), I'd go for Schwarzer to give us that solid experience at the back for 2 seasons or so until he retires.

Then I think we need to sign a fairly established player for either upfront or left wing. Doesn't have to be a superstar, but also can't be just a kid with potential. If Real do end up buying Villa either Benzema or Higuain would surely be off, so I'd keep an eye on that situation. Possibly Dzeko. Or for the left wing...well, no-one jumps out immediately. Ribery will probably be too expensive, so maybe just raid Spurs for either Modric or Kranjaer.

And if Hargreaves looks like he's going to be a write-off, it's time to bring someone in to act as cover for Fletcher.

Joe Cole on a free, Higuain (£20mil), Robben/Ozil/Silva/Modric (£15 mil-25) and two centre backs (£15 mil for both), one who can play for us right now, and the other who is more long term but can also pitch in i.e. a rodwell/Kjaer but not necessarily them. I'd also wait until the world cup is over and make a decision over Lloris and the two german young ones (£10mil).

Max outlay of £70 million.

I would get rid of Nani (£10 mill), Owen, Vidic (25-35 mil) if he genuinely wants to go - if he wants to stay I'd still bring in one CB regardless, Tosic (£4 mill), Foster (£6 mill) and retire the likes of Neville/Scholes. With the above signings I think Berbatov would play a greater role and thrive but if he had to be sold for the long term health of the team then so be it.

I'd spend £70 mills worth and get 40 mills worth (£55 million with sale of Berba) in return.

Muppetry don't you love it.
