It's not about being fooled. He has been shown to be a bit of a cnut throughout this, and I doubt that we will ever know exactly what has been going on properly. This doesn't change the fact that over the last few years we have got rid of Ronaldo, didn't resign Tevez, got in a bunch of unproven players and have decided not to actually spend any money on real, proven quality.
Look at the next few years with Giggs, Scholes, Van Der Sar, Neville all retiring. Rio being dead, Hargreaves being dead, Carrick gaining universal acclaim at being a bit slow these days, Nani blowing hot and cold and frustrating, Berba being all over the place, Ando not showing much of anything, Evra being mullered, Gibson being wank and with a question mark over the twins and you I can understand his fears.
If Gill can't say to Rooney that we are going to sign big players then what the feck do you expect him to do?
