Anderson

I wouldnt be surprised if he is, at least on footballer terms. And he's been a bit chubby for quiet some time now.

for me, that is the main reason why he isnt able to perform at his best, causehe lacks fitness, is not agile, no stamina etc. Once he gets all that back, I am sure we will see a much better Anderson

We've been waiting on the wee fattie to get that back for 2 years.

What the hell is going on with this thread? I'm on the last page (49) but it states the last page is actually 51.

Is Scholsey still ghosted?

It was clear to see what kind of stuff he brings to us in his first run of games in his first season. Wigan, Villa, Boro, Kiev, Arsenal, Blackburn.. he played a big part in all of those. You must have short memories if you don't remember those.

Brilliant performance, that. Easy to forget that he's got this in him.

Is Anderson overweight? Cos he sure as hell looks it. We've had the same problem with Arshavin. I'd have thought you'd be weighed once a week and if you were over the limit you'd get fined and told to lay off the pies.

Think that, given the strict dietary requirements and intensity of training routines in Premiership, it might be a bit more complicated than that. Energy levels and all that.

Not sure though mind, but I remember having it explained to me just how much effort goes into this sort of thing.

Anyone else think he's a bit shit?

I think he has been rather poor for most of his career at United bar his first season, where he looked quite useful and one for the future. I have been tremendously disappointed in his development at the club. Looking back say to the end of the 07-08 season I would have thought he would be one of the first names on the teamsheet had he driven on for us, but he hasnt. Hopefully he wakes up or he is out, and the thing is I still think he is more than talented enough and still young enough to become a top player I just dont really think it will happen at United.

That reminds of a thread where Glastonspurs was mocked in typical caf style, one poster told him that Tottenham were so shit that Anderson even scored against them.

 harsh. Sometimes a player has a terrible time at a club, this might be the case for our Ando.

He does take a mean penalty, to be fair. Belting the ball hard and accurately is obviously something he does quite well.

It's when he's asked to take a bit of pace off so his team-mate can actually trap the ball that the problems arise.

I'd not say that's his problem... He's obviously got a subtle touch in him, it's just that he opts for the wrong pass at the wrong time.

That can be sorted... We were pulling our hair over Nani and Ronaldo at times, and then it clicked... if the same thing happens with Anderson we'll see him bring something that we've been lacking a long time in central midfield, a player capable of box to box, or by-passing the midfield by dribbling, as well as having a sweet range of passing.

I'd love to see that happen. It's true it's easy to forget he has it in him... I just saw that Blackburn match compilation of Anderson and I could honestly not recall a match where he's been that dominant :\

You're not going to mention his shooting are you :p ?

anderson is just one out of a group of players we have that are so inconsistent, we have four or five players that do nothing but show flashes of what they are capable of and for me doing what you are capable of in maybe one out of four games is just not United standard.

I'd agree with you, but to provide a balance to that arguement, when was the last time Anderson has played 3 games in a row... let alone 5 or 10. He needs to get fit and then get a run of games before we can judge him.

Every player that comes back from injury or has missed a few games, Scholes, Rooney, Carrick, Ferdinand ect ect, you always get the comment's "looks like he is lacking match fitness", "his touch was a bit heavy". How is that any different from Anderson's situation? If he finds fitness and gets a run of games I'm sure he will find form.

yup, thats fair enough and i hope he gets a run of games so we can make a fair assesment.

Ronaldo young and learning? He's still young for a midfielder. Young players are inconsistent. Get over it.

inconsistent at the simple things is a frustration for sure after all this time, the issue with Anderson is that he looks no better now than he was 3 and a half seasons ago, in fact he's never recaptured the best performances from his debut season.

This.

If anything, he seems to have digressed from his first season. I always thought he had good ability to run with the ball and take people on, but ever since coming here he hardly ever does it, except on the odd occasion. Not sure if it is a confidence issue or he's been instructed not to do it.

What simple things? His passing? His movement? His strength/drive on the ball?

My biggest issue with him has always been his passing but thats not exactly something simple and im sure even Xavi/Scholes at 22 werent consistant with their long range forward passes, sure you can say he doesnt do the simple passes but on here people scream for a creative midfielder who passes the ball forward/trying to play people in attacking positions and when we have a player who is looking for the difficult passes people call him rubbish and urge him to keep it "simple" if it doesnt come off.

Honest i think the other aspects of his game arent as bad as people make out, his strength on the ball and drive from midfield is pretty impressive, movement and positioning could be better (shooting is a given). In fact next to his passing the only thing that worries me is his attitude, i've heard rumours around the camp that hes extremely lazy in trainning and doesnt feel the need to achieve his potential. Still hes what 22, so he has time on his side but if he remains like this for another season or two we should get rid.

Lets not forget that i the last few years since his debut hes had his fair share of injuries and summers full of football, i expect there is some form of burn out from it (pure speculation here)

The 'hasn't improved since his first season' argument doesn' really mean much given how we'd heard the exact same argument with Nani this time last year, and then it was turned on its head in 3 or 4 games. I'm sure it was used with Ronaldo in 06' before the World Cup too.

Obviously the sooner he steps up the better, but we'll only get rid of him if management decide he hasn't got it in him to step up not because he's taken too long to do so.

Once Scholes leaves that's going to completely change the make-up of our midfield because we just won't find any like-for-like replacement, so that might benefit Anderson in the end if he's trusted to make the step up, or if it leads us to move to a 433 more regularly, or if the new player brought in complements him better - right now Scholes is so important and we know Scholes-Anderson doesn't work so that's definitely working against him right now.

with anderson, the thing is most people can see how good he can be if everything falls into place, however as days go by the question is changing from 'when' to 'if'.

What simple things? His passing? His movement? His strength/drive on the ball?

His overhitting of simple short passes, his shooting and his inability to last 90 minutes are the things I am talking about, I'm not saying he can't turn it around but I would have hoped these types of things would have been improved already.

by all accounts, he's had a good first half. however with the energy and pace he's shown this half, i don't think he'll last the full 90 if prior performance is anything to go by.

however, still has shown lots of class IMO. good performance

he's been brilliant this first half!! chasing everything and always available to receive the ball. has been watching videos of scholes all week i think

I think the lad has played really well thus far. He and Carrick have controlled the midfield well and Anderson has been putting some good passes in - ones that actually go forward, which is always good to see!
More for the second half one hopes.

Very good first half from Anderson, he's moving intelligently off the ball and playing it incisive and intelligently when he has it.

I actually think his one touch passing is good, sure sometimes he tries a difficult short pass (the ones where you try and force the ball through even though theres a few players who could cut it out) but i like to see a player who is trying to get the ball forward. All i have to say about Anderson is i have a lot of time for the lad as i think he has the attibutes to become a real midfield powerhouse, he just needs a consistant run in the team and not just a game here and there.

Hes looked good today, and maybe its just me but he seems to have lost a pound or two

Tell you the thing I miss about him the most is his driving with the ball - 2nd goal was him bringing up the ball through midfield.

Hope he manages to get his fitness back to where he was early last season.

He's been terrific. Granted, so has everyone else bar the Blackburn players, but very promising display from Ando considering he's just come back.

And a nice return of his energetic runs with the ball through the middle. I just wish he'd once in a while try to go all the way when he reaches the box after those runs.

Would love to see Scholesy's opinion of Anderson's performance today. Superb.

his passing, vision and driving runs have been excellent today, like a different player and he seems to be keeping it more simple which has been very effective. Really pleased for him as we know he has the talent. Keep it up. Saying that, the team has been extremely impressive. Great teamwork.
