Fantastic news. That means no more Park, Giggs, Fletcher or Carrick

Games will be less annoying without them in for me.

How I would love this 4-3-3

Some players never get back to their best for no reason, see Wayne Rooney. I expect nothing other than superb effort from Valencia and expect to see some flashes and impact from him this season, with him hitting form at the start of next year, I also expect him to be more two footed now.

Well firstly, there clearly is a reason in Rooney's case and sadly psychological/emotional issues can have at least as much impact on a player's form as physical ones.

Secondly, I think Alan Smith had similar degrees of character/enthusiasm to Valencia and his, along with Eduardo's case, shows it's wise not to expect too much too soon coming back from these injuries.

Park and Giggs have been fantastic what are you talking about?

And who is the defensive midfielder in that 433 formation?

Not unless we're 4 goals down

Rio said on twitter today that when Valencia returns he'll be like a new signing.

More evidence that Rio is a caftard.

Why play 4-3-3 when we are getting our second best winger back who provides regular service from the wing. I think United's 4-4-2 even away from home will be much more dangerous as there will be a threat from both sides and more pace in the side.

What the feck is this?

No Giggs, Park or Fletcher? Are you on a wind-up?

I was joking, although it would be nice haha.

Rooney's best was only like 8 months ago.

If thats the cut off point, you're in for a rude awakening with Valencia's return because we'll be extremely lucky if he's back to his best in that time. It'll most likely take a year or so - by which time you'll be using him as an example of a player who never got back to his best, if this Rooney comment is anything to go by

I'm hopeful neither of those cases can be held up as direct comparison...

Smith's career was already in something of a mess thanks to our well publicised attempts to turn him into a midfielder, while Eduardo had an incredibly serious break which kept him out for a year.

If Valencia's physical recover from the break goes smoothly (Smith also had a few set-backs and ended up out for over a year, on and off), I'm optimistic that he can regain the sort of form we saw from him previously.

I was going to bump this thread yesterday just with the fleeting thought - wonder if maybe Valencia can get some time against Crawley Town.

I wanted to link that Jizz in My Pants video after reading the news though ... wtf I can't figure it out

Hahaha, this is probably the worst tactical formation I have ever seen.

Literally 2 defenders and 8 attackers

Maybe try this if we are 5-0 down with 5 minutes to go

I want to say that I wish he'd injured his right foot instead, but I don't want to jinx anything. Maybe then he could work on little techniques to coordinate his left leg while he was laid up. It's more difficult with legs, of course, but breaking your preferred hand/arm, often leads to better use of your left. On the other hand, maybe the physical therapy on his left leg will help things. I'd just love to see what he could do if the defenders needed to honor an inside move even a little bit.

But, Valencia did come inside quite a bit last season, he may not have taken a shot on but, defenders still had to defend for that.

Typically though we want him or the RB to be whipping in crosses from the right, so he tends to try get outside or hug the touchline more. It's not that he can't come inside.

If it is the thought you want defenders to fear him taking a shot from his left, that's not going to happen. Not to sound all Scholsey but, that would be one thing a player really can't develop to become even good at this age, it needs to be conditioned at a lot earlier age. Good means for this level. He might be able to take a shot better than any of us can even on our stronger foot with his left peg but, at the highest level I don't think we can expect that from him ever.

No, I wasn't really talking about shooting with his left, but rather passing with his left. And by "inside move", I didn't mean going deep into the center of the box, but just being able to create space when the defender is leaning heavily toward a move to his right/outside/toward the end line.

For example, when the defender is overplaying for him to take it to the right down the sideline, a little cut back could create some good space if he could produce an in-swinging cross with his left foot.

I know he may never get it, but that doesn't mean I should stop wishing that he would. And it won't take away from him being one of my favorite players on the team. Giggs was (and still is) kind of the same way with his right foot.

errrr, that team would get slaughtered!

Swap Valencia for Hernandez and insert Park and then that could do well in big games in Europe and the league.

Well sure it would, we'd have 12 players on the pitch.

Yeah okay - throwing the ball in with his left or even passing with his left once in a while would be something he should add just to keep defenders a bit more honest. It would open up his stronger side a bit more.

He does it once in a while but, it also may have been a confidence thing in his first season, wanting to stick to the basics and what he does well. Who knows what we'll see as he continues here. Could see a difference as the year went by with more variation in play, like I said tended to come inside more or would drop deeper and carry the ball through the middle once in a while.

First and foremost though want to see him streaking down the right side, getting a cross in for Rooney to score and then not even a smile but, ok lets get the game started and score another.

That formation is genius, and not in the Jose Mourinho/Alf Ramsey way.

Does your nickname refer to how you got promoted from the newbies?

Good, now exit FM and shutdown your computer and go to bed.

 @ all the people falling for againstallodds WUM.

Anyway I really look forward to ToniV beeing back for us again. I missed him.

he was our best player over the course of a season last year. Cant wait to have him back, he adds another and importantly, consistent dimension to our team.

judging by his character, i have a sneaky he will come back and play at a level not too far from his usual self as well :D

and in reference to Againstallodds WUM formation, i believe Valencia could play well on the right of a three man midfield.
