Liverpool v Manchester United

Its kind of a role reversal though Weaste, Liverpool have been a thorn in our side throughout Fergies reign- with the odd exception, and we were a thorn in theirs when they had a great team in the 70s + 80s when we were terrible.

I was about to say the same thing. It's bullshit anyway, it's not even the worst team of the Fergie era, I don't even think that it's the worst team since the Premier League was started.

Absolutely, the 03-04, 04-05 team was weaker IMO.

Poor today but I still think we'll win it. Our midfield is clearly lacking but we aren't as bad as people make out. People have been blinded a bit by the very strong form of Chelsea and United over the last few years. As someone pointed out, we lost very heavily at times during our 90s dominance - it happens. The league has become a bit more balanced again which is a good thing. I reckon 80 points will probs do it now. We need to win our home games.

What? We were dominant for much of the 1st half and until the 3rd goal we battered them...

We were never dominant at all. We had spells in which we kept the ball and passed well where Liverpool did not pressure us but we did nothing with it. Reina never really had a decent save to make amongst those two spells and the best chance was still the effort out of nothing from Berbatov.

If liverpool played like this for even half a season, they would have eased their way to the title, its just reserved for us, watch them go to wigan and get schooled or something next week.

This was the mistake many people made on here, they looked at the table/form and the troubles Liverpool have had off the pitch and thought we'd be going there and smashing them. I'm all for being positive but there was too much over confidence for Chelsea and Liverpool away. These games are probably our toughest, in that one is our title rival where we've not won since 2002 or so and the other is our biggest game on the fixture list. Its no surprise we came back with two losses, ref or not.

Giggs and Scholes have been effective. But the lack of investment in midfield by the club last summer has hurt us for options.

I don't think we're too badly off myself. Obviously a midfielder or keeper would be nice in the summer but we have Rafael, Smalling, Fabio, Hernadez coming into the squad nicely + Welbeck and Cleverly doing well on loan who could be options. This adds to Evra, Vidic, Nani, Valencia, Berbatov and Rooney etc. We're not as bad off as some make out.

Bad result today, bad week in fact. We have to move on. Really hope we don't blow this title as well because we need to crack #19 before SAF retires IMO, otherwise it could be a massive handicap for the next manager. Could end up being like Liverpool with the 'Premier' league.

Whoever gets the title aside, at least we can't have a worse week than this, games wise.

This is the worst united team I've ever seen. And those mugs on mutv constantly look on the bright side are saying our squad is fine, they're always doing it and every caller says the squad needs improving in areas. Underneath they agree but have to portray positivity I guess, frustrating to watch really. Especially fortune who just sits there and smiles like he's just flattered to be there. Macri is such an old grump too.
You must be real young.
try the 70s and 80s

To be fair to the Scouse, once they scored they put the hammer down and we started to buckle under pressure - and once Nani did his headed assist, it was curtains. It is not as if they had to work to hard for their goals , but they shut us down very easily....

Very easy game in the end for the Scouse, they could have had the cigars out, whereas we were very, very ineffective.

We rely on our top quality of defence a lot as we are short on playmakers to create opportunities for us, and today's game exposed that to the full........

The team of late 2003-early 2006 weren't great. Didn't win the league for 4 years, finished bottom of the CL group. We won a few domestic cups and that was it. This team isn't as bad as that.

Have we hit great heights this season? No. Have we played the Manchester United way this season with great attacking flair? No. We haven't been consistent, but then again nobody has. But I think perspective needs to be taken - we're top of the league, still in the FA Cup and CL. So, quite clearly we aren't as bad as several years ago.

Those 03-04 through 05-06 sides were still capable of winning the league if not for Arsenal's superb season (combined with Rio's ban and some summer signings that didn't pan out) and the next two seasons there was an unstoppable Chelsea side.

Basically, this season's Premiership is probably akin to the 04-05 season except there is no dominant side.

Sprru nit SAF blew it. Fletcher HAD to play. If Fletcher doesn't play then it has to be Gibson or even Park. But we HAD to have some muscularity in central midfield. When I saw the lineup I thought that is a big mistake. Nani-Rooney-Berbatov up front effectively as Nani doesn't defend. But to do that you HAVE to have a muscular Central Midfield 3 and Carrick-Scholes-Giggs doesn't cut it.

All lovely players but not enough for this game.
