feckety feck feck sticks. For all the grief our central midfield got on here, I firmly believe we wouldn't have lost to the scouse with one or other of the above two players in our starting line-up.

100% wrong. If we don't beat Bolton we can recover. If we lose tonight it puts us out of the top competition and fecks the teams confidence for the league games.

Eh? Failing to beat Bolton would do far more harm to our PL campaign then getting knocked out of the CL tonight (which would have the opposite effect, if anything)

I'm not assuming that at all. I was just pointing out that he was correct that if we lose tonight we are out, and if we lose against Bolton, then we're not. This is a more important game. I think we'll win.

To be fair to him, our record with Wes in central defence has been atrocious for at least a year now.
Harsh, Wes is a terrific defender who unfortunately is lacking match fitness. If Ferguson thinks he's our most natural defender, you should put some faith in him. I love Wes and know what he can do, during our double winning season he was instrumental at RB. Nothing says he can't reach those levels again, all he needs is confidence as some games.
Very nice support to give a player who's been at United since 1992.

Bolton for me is the more important game, but that's only me cos i want the 19th so badly. Barcelona just looks too strong in the CL

The confidence blow of going out of the CL in a home game to Marseilles would be far worse for us than the advantage of playing less games.

Depends on your priorities. For me this season is all about number 19. Not all that bothered about Europe.
I suspect that our players have enough mental strength to prevent our season from falling apart if we crash out of the Champions League tonight (we are not Arsenal). Even if they don't, I am sure SAF will shove a rod up their asses and get them to bounce back from the loss.
