Chelsea vs. Manchester United

I'm excited, feels like a nice break from the pressure of the league. We're underdogs. But it's still huge.

I'd be tempted to play Rooney behind Hernandez as part of a midfield three... but I guess it's too attacking minded with Rooney in the middle and Hernandez will play his part in the second half of the game. I'd approach the game like this:

VdS
Fabio - Vidic - Ferdinand - Evra
Carrick - Scholes
Valencia - Park - Nani
Rooney

I'm afraid we can't afford to put both Giggs and Scholes in there.

I think the front six picks itself: Valencia, Carrick, Scholes, Park, Nani, Rooney.

Only question mark is who plays right back and who partners Vidic.

I really think Hernandez sgould start, he'll cause them serious problems in behind the defence and it's not the quickest central pairing. It will in turn create space for Rooney.

Front 4 should be

Valencia-------Rooney--------Park

-------------Hernandez

I think impact sub. He started against them the other week and i don't think he had that much of an impact

Can't see Park not playing.

I can, he's was struggling against West Ham, this might be a game early. I see Gibson having more of a chance, but the team will be 4-4-2, so I see this as Carrick-Scholes flanked by Nani and Valencia.

Won't be happy with any loss. I'm determined to have a thorough slaughtering of Chelsea tonight.

Do we know who the ref is tonight? :nervous:

09:26 Alberto Undiano Mallenco has one of the most difficult jobs this evening. The Spanish referee has been tasked with officiating a fixture that, in recent seasons, has been blighted by controversy. So, what do we know about him? Born in Pamplona, Mallenco first refereed in the Spanish top-flight in 2000. Since then he's made rapid progress and even took charge of three fixtures at last summer's World Cup. He does have a reputation for being something of a disciplinarian, though: expect a few yellow cards.
Found it on the United website.

Likes his cards it seems !

I'm well up for this. Can't wait, c'mon United!

Masterclass from Anderson tonight boys, you heard it hear first.

Funny you mention that because earlier today I was thinking about the game, at OT a few seasons back, when Chelsea were unbeaten and out of nowhere Alan Smith has a MOTM playing in the middle of the park - I thought Anderson could do just that tonight. Don't know why I matched the two players up!

why underdogs ?
Ladbrooks are giving both teams the same odds to win 5/6
That's to qualify. I can't access the odds now but last time I checked we were longer odds on Betfair, which is probably more accurate. Either way, it's a different feeling from being expected to win. For me :)
