Chelsea vs. Manchester United

This formation can switch to just about every shape. I love it! it will be a masterstroke by SAF

Here's what I reckon this lineup is:

That would leave us a little weak in midfield. I think we're going to see Rooney in that wide left position everybody hates.

Defence
Park-Carrick-Giggs
Valencia-Hernandez-Rooney

Park marks Lampard as you say which means he mostly stays deep with Carrick. Giggs breaks forward to support the front three when needed.

BluesChronicle Have just heard dynamite news from a very well known Manchester United source: Rooney banned for 3 games. Nothing confirmed yet.

:nervous:

Wasn't it confirmed today by SSN that the ban won't be increased?

Park will probably tuck in a bit to make it more of a 3 man midfield and Rooney might go out to the wing when we're defending.

We did the same against 'em in the community shield but Rooney played upfront where Hernandez will be playing and Owen played where Rooney is tonight.

Our matches at SB for the past couple of years have been in the same trend:
We dominate in the first half.
We sit back in the second half.
Chelsea score a controversial winner.

Hope it's not the same in this match.

I see the logic in leaving Nani out.

The only thing I'm concerned about is Giggsy's ball retention. He always goes for the spectacular and not look for the pass which will ensure we keep possession in the areas where we cant really do damage...

Don't you just love watching John Terry missing that penalty over and over again.

Interesting that Ancelloti has gone for Zhirkov and not Malouda.

Must be worried about Valencia and Rafael on the right.

Could watch it on a continuous loop for days on end.

Really pumped for this now. Going to be awesome, I feel (and hope)

Don't understand why we don't just play Scholes in midfield, instead of sticking a winger in there. He was pretty much responsible for everything we did right in the league game there a few weeks ago.

I'm worried that team will just sit deep and invite Chelsea on. Which we already know doesn't work because we've tried it against them about 5 times before

Didn't quite expect that team. There are a few returnees such as Park, Rafael over those who have been consistently available. But at least on the bench we have reassuring options.

Expect Nani and Berbatov to come on in the second half to change things up. Anyway we should be progressive tonight and go out to score goals. Losing shouldn't be an option.

Official tactical sheets have #mufc as 4-4-2 and #cfc operating under a similar system, perhaps with #Essien slightly deeper than #Lampard

...

Hopefully he'll be crying again at the end of the 2nd leg.

Edit:  talking about it again in the preview love it

I'm having visions of Torres scoring his first goal against us tonight :nervous:

Valencia's form in the last few games coinciding with Nani's dipping slightly after the injury has kept him out of the team. Got no problems with that.

homelessbebe Not playing tonight, Sir Ferguson is resting me for the crunch match against the Seattle Sounders. In July.

Intriguing line-up, very surprised at Scholes not playing, we only have one natural CM on the pitch, I suspect Park will play wide left and Rooney will be in the hole as he has the workrate to help Giggs and Carrick.

Evening Jay, Cheers dude didnt think they'd ever let me out. :)

Welcome back mate.

I don't recall Nani's form dipping. He has only played against Marseille and Bolton and was MotM in the 2nd.

MirrorFootball The 1st XI's tonight have played a combined 1,128 CL games - a record. And with Anelka + Beba subs, there's never been a sulkier CL bench

1128 games

On the 60th minute Hernandez, Giggs and Park will come off for the fresh Nani, Berbatov and Scholes and we will score at least 2 goals after this happens. You heard it here first.

Fergie saying he opted for Park/Valencia over Nani down to freshness
