Keano: The league's been over for 2 months

Its no secret he was a piss head when he was younger but doesn't everyone make mistakes when he was younger. Scoreboards comments in this thread are a disgrace - groundless accusations. And the idea that he 'walked out on his country'....read a decent history of the player's career....even an abridged one and I think you'll find that was far from what happened...

Groundless? Ive dropped plenty reasons for my own personal tendencies, if you don't like them then cool I don't give a feck but they're not groundless mate, they are based on experience.

George Best was an alcoholic wife beater who destroyed a liver he'd been given in a transplant. (Sucks to say, but he was)

Yet in threads about Best people tend to avoid speaking about how he behaved and remember him for how he played on the pitch. With Keane, people do the opposite.

I'm quoting myself because Scoreboard is on another rant.

I remember being in London in 2002 and hearing Best had fell off the wagon and was then abusing the liver given to him by some generous soul when it could have been given to someone making better use of it.
I have no qualms saying George Best was a selfish little cnut...

Yes, but people don't talk about it much when it comes to Best and remember him on the pitch. With Keane, it's always "Haaland this, Saipan that."

United's 99 celebrations, he twatted a bird drunk and ended up in Bootle St...

I thought that's what you were referring to.

Keane did not headbutt a woman, you've fabricated that. Not even the woman herself alleged that, merely that he kicked her in the thigh, which was also untrue.

You are aware aren't you, that the woman in question, Maxine Rourke, was, along with her husband, reported to be financially bankrupt in the Manchester Evening News just 2 months beforehand. She sold her story to The Sun for a large sum of money. A spokesman for the bar said that:

"Keane and other United players had been enjoying a few drinks when the two women came in and 'jibed' one of the players about buying them drinks."

"When he ignored them and turned away, one of the girls was seen to throw a champagne glass at him cutting him below the eye."

"At this point, both girls were asked by the doorman to leave, which they did."

The allegations from the two women, was that Keane kicked one of them in the thigh, and poured a drink over the other, not that he headbutted one. Neither allegation was substantiated by any eyewitnesses, who said that the ladies were rude, abrasive and clearly looking for trouble, and that Keane did not attack them in any way, shape or form. The police agreed, and hence he was not charged.

The Sun's picture along with the article was taken before the incident happened, which strongly suggests it was a set-up. The ladies were staying in a hotel nearby, which it also appears was paid for by The Sun. They rang The Sun afterwards before ringing the police.

The Sun got their big story before the FA Cup final, the ladies got their payout. All of it was total bollocks of course. I'm not surprised that not only you bought it hook, line and sinker but that you altered the already untrue 'kicked in the thigh' to 'headbutted'.

Not really, it's come into it as the worst part of Keane has been discussed (admittedly by me) but I can easily sit here and tell you a dozen great moments from Keane but wouldn't life be boring if we all sat around kissing someones arse?
I love George Best the footballer, George Best post-football was just a sad twat with a severe alcohol problem and I'm sorry if that upsets anyone as it upsets me bit this ain't even an opinion, it's a fact...

Thing is, no one really does in Keane's case. Any thread regarding Keane always gets turned into posts about how "Keane was a cnut" "Keane caused global warming" etc. We as Manchester United fans should judge those who've played for this club solely on how they perform on the pitch and ignore the personal bollocks, of course some of our players are gonna be cnuts.

I'll agree to take your suggestion on regarding Keane based on him as the great player he was, so do us a favour and understand this thread is based on his prediction as a pundit with his predictions, not as a player.

I'm still waiting for Johnno to address the point that he fabricated Keane headbutting a woman.

Did you even read my post above Johnno, instead of linking to an article written the day after the event when details were unclear? It was a set-up, and a fabrication. One person was assaulted that day, and it was Keane, cut under the eye after being hit with a champagne flute.

Glad he's Ghandi-esque in Cork, in Manchester he was a twat and I know this for a fact.
My mate was in a band with Bonehead from Oasis, he lived next door to Keane in Hale Barns. They used to socialize together a lot and he considered him a good mate. He was telling me they used to bet on anything when they were pissed and used to give each other £50 or whatever.
Bone was telling me they were pissed in the pub and bet on summat (can't remember what) and they bet each others cars. Bone's was a Roller. Turns out Bone lost the bet but it was summat daft anyway, but lo and behold Keane turns up the next day demanding his car. Bonehead laughed it off but Keane stood there demanding his car. Even Bonehead's missus came out and tried to calm him down saying it was all a joke and he wasn't having a £70k car or whatever it cost.
Keane then called them both a 'pair of cnuts' and walked away znd never spoke to them again.

Ah, when I'm around the area and not at uni, I often marvel at that house. Enormous thing it is, though I'm not sure he owns it anymore. He had another one down the road and all (an amazing road called South Downs Drive), and they were both within walking distance of the shop I used to work in. He used to come in every now and then, moody as feck, but seemed alright.
To be honest though, I think even he would be hard-pressed to make a bellend of of himself in the space of about 20s in a fruit shop. Was never recommended to engage him regarding anything football related, so I never bothered.

That pub you're talking about would've been the Bleeding Wolf. Keane, Robson et al were often spotted in there.

That quote is one I'd prefer to remember him by...not the post Utd career stuff.

I think he could make a good pundit in the future just don't see the management ever taking off for him...he doesn't embrace the job or even seem to like it

That would be something. Imagine Keano on Sky running amok. Better still, put him on MOTD to continue his scrap with Shearer.

I'll be posting some pics later, behind the scenes of yesterday's launch, Roy was a pure gentleman and gave loads of time to us.

I used to go in there every now and again with a mate who lived in Hale. That was thirty-odd years ago so I suppose they've done the place up since then.

Roy Keane two seconds before he bit the head off this innocent puppy :(

He headbutted the poor thing would you believe. So my mate in the jeans and orange top told me anyway.

The dog actually belongs to the little girl in the photo, she foolishly wagered it with Mr. Keane.

Well this thing  is called a "keano".

Does this help?

Seriously I have searched and searched the web for anybody at all who claims that Roy refused SAF at his testimonial, and I've found nothing. I've watched the video and seen nothing of the sort.

Unless you can back up your story with a link to anyone else who tells the same story, or to point out any video evidence we might have missed, then I don't see how this story can be taken seriously at all.

If the worst you can come up with off the top of your head is not getting autographs again and again every time you saw the man, a betting story, and a woman looking for a payoff for her false story, then you haven't got much at all.

I don't think anyone is under any illusions that Keane was some sort of angel. We all saw him play and heard his interviews. But even a dog is loyal to his own, and I've always thought that Keane was ferociously loyal to Ireland even when walking away from Saipan, and loyal to United even when criticizing his teammates in a way that was not acceptable.

Keane was never going to leave United quietly, but I think SAF understood that. Keane was and is a proud man, but I always believed his pride extended beyond himself to his team and his country. Would I be happier if he showed charity towards those he had no reason to love otherwise? Yes. But the great warrior from Achilles on has what Plato called "spiritedness" or the "love of one's own" in the Republic. Keane was the archetypal warrior and the archetypal captain. He embodies the qualities of the warrior for me. And sadly, also like Achilles his anger is both his motor to success and his swift downfall.

If you listen to the interview, instead of taking pride in remaining ignorant, you'd hear no animosity whatever towards Sir Alex in Keane's words. That is evidence I can see and hear for myself, not hearsay you can't support from anywhere (unless perhaps it is the NOTW or something, but then they have us buying a new player every week).

Yeah but unlike in Cork, in Manchester we have a figure of speech where you say 'I bet you any money' and then make a statement that is hardly concrete truthful.
I admire your passion for Keane lads but I'm well qualified to comment having been in his presence personally many times and have heard loads of tales about his cnutish behaviour.

well I've been in his presence a good few times and experienced nothing but a class act and good company. I've heard loads of tales of his generosity and outstanding behaviour. I'm probably well qualified to comment too. do we cancel each other out then?

I'm quoting myself because it's a great anecdote.

I loved you anecdote Pogue, but felt you could have given us more detail. Where was the club sandwich purchased from? What was it about the club sandwich that you found tasty? If you could have your time again, would you have opted for a different type of sandwich?

I felt you only did half a job. And that's why I'm disapointed :(

Your profound lack of understanding of alcoholism is noted.

i´m in agreement with brad here, it was more of a anec without the dote!!
