If possible I'd rather put Rafael at left back and Jones at right back than start Buttner. I suspect Buttner will start though. I wonder if Moyes will give him games in the league now to get him some game time?
 
I would start Evans, 5but I would also start Evans in centre of defence too. He will probably be injured anyway so we will have to play Buttner.
 
:lol: Evans or Rafa. There's no way this guy can play. I'd rather recall Ando and play him there.
 
It's worth going through to the next round just to see Buttner against those players.
 
Giggs can play at Left back
 
I'd play Rafael at left back. Büttner works his tits off and seems a decent bloke, but he isn't remotely good enough for Champions League quarter finals.

This will be fun, we'll probably switch our 'defensive wing' from right to left for the next game whoever it is, hope we don't make the right one 'defensive' as well. Imagine if Büttner delivered a top class performance, that would've been something.
 
Feckin hire Paolo Maldini to shadow Buttner for a month and shout at him when he does something wrong defensively.
 
Rafael or Evans, has to be surely. If he plays Buttner, the tie is already over.
 
Rafael at leftback is my preference. I won't be disappointed when he plays though he always gives everything.
 
To be fair Buttner won't be much worse than Evra, he is just positionally awful and far too aggressive but at least he won't be exposed by pace, Evra would be horribly exposed by the pace of whoever we play and also he'll bomb down the wing putting crosses in and let's face it, whoever we play, we probably won't create much therefore Buttner's flukey crosses are our best chance.


Hopefully he gets a game against West Ham, rest Evra for City.

I do wonder how he was the best Ferguson could find as a number 2.
 
We're better off playing either Rafael or Evans in the quarter final, both have played there before. Buttner is a Championship defender.

There is literally no winger who you wouldn't see coming out on top in this "duel".
Imagine Barca's Alves there too. He could probably only stand a chance against Valencia or Bebe. Maybe Downing.

For me it would provide better balance rather than playing say Rafael there, and if Buttner is selected it would provide better security for him (and for us!)
 
He worries me, but sadly, so does Evra. He is a joke defensively nowadays.
 
Buttner would get sent off vs Robben. He's already reckless in the tackle constantly but against Robben and with CL referees I don't see him lasting 90 minutes.
 
Has to be Evans or Rafael for Evra's position. Don't trust Buttner.
 
For all those people saying play Rafael at left back, you know that just like Pogba, when Buttner goes and becomes world class at Juventus, Barca, or some other profession entirely, he'll be say the reason he left was because Rafael, who is not even a left back, was picked ahead of him and that's when he knew he had to leave.

I disagree. Im sick of seeing CBs moving as RB-LB. It never worked at United.
 
I think its crying out for Evans. A defensive move yes, but something that could actually benefit the team as he should do decent one on one and his calmness on the ball will be valuable when we're pressed
