He had a fairly impressive first half, but in the second he decided that he had played for too good and thus felt the need to play twice as badly. He has good pace and a decent left foot, but his tackling and defending is bemusing at times. However, he might just work a little bit better than I expected. He has so much drive that he seems to be able to run up and down that flank like a maniac and thus keeps width quite well. He's not quite United quality though, is he? Also, he confuses the hell out of me; I kept thinking what the hell is Cleverley doing there, or what the hell is Büttner doing there, but instead it was, what the hell is Büttner doing there and what the hell is Cleverley doing there. How are we supposed to shout at players when the look that similar? Bloody annoying!

Surprised no ones talking about him being subbed off for Evra, unless there's something I don't know like an injury or something. Surely Moyes wouldn't just replace his LB with another LB mid game unless he's losing confidence in Buttner. Does this mean he'll now play even less? Does it mean we're buying a LB in this transfer window? Is this just wishful thinking?:nervous:

Think he was injured. I remember he knelt down during the game when they had a throw in on his side, so they did a quick throw while he was on a knee and got caught out
It was a terrible time to take a knee but it was a forced sub.

Feck..his defending was just about bad enough that I thought the above scenario was viable.

Buttner was left-back for Manchester United, until he took an arrow to the knee.

Yeah he was injured I think.

I die a little inside every time I see him play. I do my best to get behind every player and will continue to support him when is on the pitch but god he makes it tough.

I think he was injured. Another game, more poor crosses that had no chance of finding a teammate and lots of faffing about losing the chance to put the ball into the box. He should find a club that befits his talents.

Does anyone know why on earth he does that thing where he rolls the ball under his foot to go absolutely nowhere?

unless he was injured, then replacing him with evra late in the game doesn't make any sense. especially when you know that buttner used to take penalties for his old club. or maybe moyes got no idea about that in the first place?

He was bent over like he needed hospital treatment, he clearly wanted off. Besides going into extra time it was good to have Evra's energy

I remember that, but I thought he'd played on for a bit afterwards before getting subbed off. Anyway I guess we've established he got injured and we may see him play in a Utd shirt again in the future..

Thats when we were preparing Evra to come on. Sunderland took a throw in so up he jumped and ran about a bit till there was another stoppage and he went over in a heap again

On last nights evidence, Buttner should not be first choice left back. Evra needed a break after the weekends game against chelsea and we also needed his composure on the ball.

Where is Vermilj? Surely a better option.

I can't see him lasting here much longer, he clearly isn't good enough. It's still mind boggling that he's preferred to Fabio.

Another baffling decision by Moyes to keep playing him. He really shouldnt be playing for United

He's just so predictable. Gives away foul after stupid foul by barging into people when they are going nowhere. Brainless footballer.

He was nowhere near as bad as people are making out - I'd count at least 3 or 4 players who were definitely worse than he was. I imagine most people have "Enter Buttner thread and criticise" down on there checklist of things to do after the game.

Yet he blocked the shot that was going in after Brown's header that everybody here tries to omit.

A defender blocked a shot...get in!!

Come on Kostur, I don't think anyone "hates" Buttner, but he's clearly not good enough to play for us. Whether he ever will be, is another debate, but he's a liability at the back tbh.

But it's pretty acknowledged by everybody here that he's not good enough defensively yet you'll see people here crawling like zombies reminding us all how shit he was last game, even though he really wasn't. No real defensive error, a clearance that would've been lauded by everybody if it was somebody else but yea, he was poor with his crossing yet gave width that Kagawa couldn't give in the first half.

Rafael played just as shit yesterday if not worse, can't see hounds being sent after him.

I watched the u21 vs Boro and Fabio was head and shoulders above the rest of the players on the pitch. Why Moyes picks this guy over Fabio baffles me..

wasn't Fabio suspended for this match? Not 100% sure. Either way, your right. Moyes picks Buttner over Fabio and its shocking. Buttner just has a face that irritates me everytime i see it on the pitch. He looks like a Liverpool player.

Rafael was dogshit yesterday, but the reason he'd be afforded more slack is because of the level's he's showed his capable of. Buttner is yet to earn that previlege.

I agree that Buttner was better than Rafael yesterday but that's not saying much. Neither were good.

Though I'd say that there were far worse performances yesterday.

Obviously there were loads of shite performances last night, it doesnt change the fact that Hes simply a terrible defender.

Positionally I dont think Ive seen anyone as poor im all my time watching United. At one point last night he attempted to run through his marker with a rugby styled maul.

He has no future at the club and he must be moved on in the summer. Harsh maybe but its as simple as that in my view.

Honestly don't even think he was in any way bad, in fact none of the defenders were - we didn't concede a chance or shot on target all game. He could've contributed more going forward, he's usually better in that area but to slate him for yesterday's game just reeks of a petty agenda against him.

We can't have 25 top players. He's fine as back up, the fact our first choice left back is poor (by first choice standards) isn't his problem. He can have a game where he has nothing to do defensively, doesn't get beat once, doesn't lose his man once and he'll still get stick on here for being "defensively poor", "not good enough".

He just rejected a photo opportunity with me because his hair wasn't right (is it ever?) I feel privileged to have shaken his hand though.
