I like him. He looks a crazy fecker and has one hell of a left foot. Also I think the problems he has at the back are things than can be ironed out. I hope he makes it here.

Put 11 crosses in. 1 was great, 1-2 were good

He put in at least 3 good crosses. Out of 11 that's a normal ratio. One of them being an assist, that's good. If you want to talk stats, his goal and assist ratio is about the same as Young's despite Büttner being a full back.

He made a couple of really good crosses, a really good tackle so credit where it's due.

Does that mean he's all of a sudden good enough to play for us? I don't think so, play him week in week out and watch how terrible he is and how exposed he will be agaisnt teams that attack us.

If you think the likes of Lennon rapes Evra, Buttner would feel like he has about 10 cocks up his arse.

Played well today though.

I didnt say it was bad, just giving an honest opinion on his crossing. 1 was great, a couple were good, most were average and some were fecking dire. Reminds me of Nani and I'd play him

It doesn't come off that way.

I agree that he's not good enough either. I don't agree with some that say he's a winger. He's good at getting into spaces and taking advantage of that. He wouldn't be getting that much space as a winger. He should play more simply because Evra has been awful at the back and bar getting sent off he can't really do any worse. Some time on the bench might get Evra focused again.

I agree he's simply not good enough to be a winger. His technique is poor. When he doesnt have much time to think and he just concentrates on getting a cross in before he's closed down, he can put in a good cross. When he has time to think exactly where he wants to place it thats when hes getting it wrong time and again

Play him on the wing!

Don't know what some of you are on about really, he will be no worse than what our wingers have been giving us this season.

He can cross better than most in our team and he's willing to actually take on a player.

He had a decent game. He's below the standard of a typical United fullback but he's not as bad as he is made out. He could easily be a regular for a team like Villa or Westham.

He was no worse than Evra has been for a long time. His crossing was better than the stuff Evra usually puts in, some of those crosses were very good. Made some good challenges too. He also seems to be able to take a corner and an indirect free kick. The free kick just outside the box was poor though.

I don't like him, and I always slag him off, but along with Fletcher, he was one of our best players.

Great cross for the goal. Thought he was okay defensively. Had a nice last-ditch tackle. Criticized him heavily before and he wasnt that bad today. Deserves some credit

He'd be absolutely dogshit on the wing, so about the same as playing him full-back. Get rid. He's never going to be good enough so let him go somewhere he can actually play.

Don't think he was tested much defensively by their wide players, but he covered well for the CBs. As for attacking he was a bit hit-and-miss, but he was okay considering he was our only source of width down the left.

He still looks like he hasn't the foggiest idea what position he's supposed to be in at any given time.

Good game from him. Though it turned out to be the type of game that suits him. Very little defensive work to do and freedom to bomb forward and throw crosses. Going forward he has always been semi decent, but it is against the tougher teams that attack us more where he gets found out.

Hopefully that cameo will encourage some of the clubs reportedly interested in him to bid for him in the next few weeks.

This x infinite+an infinite more.

Let's be real about things, he had a good game yesterday so I won't criticise him for yesterday's performance. He gave us a great assist so credit where credits due.

But would I like to see him play against Spurs? Arsenal? Against any team that attack us? Hellllll no.

People are using Evra's current deficiencies to justify playing Buttner, and as shit as Evra has been lately, he's still better than Buttner. Evra gets beaten for pace granted, but Buttner gets beaten by minimal skill. All a winger needs to do is show Buttner onto his inside, and then take the ball onto his outside and get past him with ease because Buttner falls for it every single time.

I don't think you can just learn to be a defender, apparently Carragher said that fullbacks are either failed wingers or failed centre halves and that's the case with Buttner. He's a failed winger who is trying to learn to be a fullback and it's just not him. But Carragher can feck off with that stupidness, he wouldn't have been able to be a fullback himself, it's not like it's an easy position to master.

Southampton wanted him before we signed him, let's try and use him as bait to get shaw.

His first time crossing was hilariously wank, but when he gets the ball out of his feet he can't half whip in a mean ball.

Is it wrong to say that I quite like him as a player. Bit rough around the edges but that could be sorted out.

There's nothing wrong with you liking him, I don't agree with your assessment of him of course.

If we took his attacking game out of the equation, and just judged him as a defender, do you think he's up to the job?

I've been playing devil's advocate in this thread all ready so may as well continue. He was a lot of people's man of the match on here when he played v Shakhtar which shows he can play against a team that will attack us.

Do you genuinely think he can find a level of consistency to eradicate all his defensive deficiencies? Do you think he's the kind of standard we should accept at united?

Probably not. I do actually like him though, I think he could be a decent squad player and there is a chance he could improve his defensive qualities. Unless we sign a proven LB in this window I'd be happy to see him start a few games now and see how he gets on. Evra has been horrible.

Okay let me put it this way. We can sign a new left back this January, let's for arguments sake say we can sign Contraeo, what would you like to do with Evra and Buttner?

I think Evra will probably be off in the summer in any case so it would be wise to leave Buttner where he is IMO.

If Evra was to leave, I would rather us sign 2 left backs to be honest and move him on as well.

That's how I see it too. So long as he accepts he's second choice I'd keep him for his attitude. I'd rather Buttner than some moping geezer that would be angling for a move in a year if he wasn't first choice.
