American Cops Doing What They Do Best

Also worth mentioning that this all seems new and shocking to people whose only exposure to police brutality is when it's caught on video. Can you imagine how many more incidents there have been when there was no cameras around? If you're living in a deprived area there's a good chance you'll have seen (or even experienced) thuggery like that first hand. Which makes it completely understandable that people sometimes don't assume complying with police instructions is the best way to avoid getting hurt.
You'd have to assume this has been standard practice for a very, very long time. We all hear of things even in the UK there's always someone with a story to tell of police brutality but we just seem to get on with our lives and think nothing much of it. My brother is a cop in London and it is a far away world to where he grew up in the south Wales valleys, he's been head butted, stabbed, beaten up and it is a daily worry for him, not knowing what he'll be faced with but at no point does he take matters in to his own hands and cross the line. It's a very difficult job in some areas and I think in America that feeling of the unknown, especially where you have no idea if someone is packing a weapon, it can do stuff to people that we don't understand. In no way should police brutality be condoned but I do see the difficulties and the psychological impact being in such a position can lead to irrational decision making. It's a societal problem just as much as it is an educational one.

Yeah, for sure. These things are always way more complex than they seem. Gross over-simplification to put the whole thing down to sadistic cops who get a kick out of beating people up or shooting them.

If Republicans in Texas get their way there'll be fewer cases like this to worry about. They're trying to make recording police illegal. Because freedom.

Yikes. Recording of a 17-year-old being tasered and pepper sprayed repeatedly:

The cops deleted the recording (was only able to be recovered as it was in a Recently Deleted folder on iPhone) and the 17-year-old is currently imprisoned until July on charges of assault and battery on an officer and assisting arrest, despite (a) not assaulting an officer and (b) the girl asked at the start of the video if they were under arrest and the officer said no. The 17-year-old was asked a few times to get out of the vehicle and said he wanted his mum present so they pepper sprayed him, then tasered him once. He then started to get out of the car but they tasered him again.

That is fecking horrific. I am so angry after watching that, I actually shed tears because that has upset me so much. Those kids were being nothing but polite and respectful, the young lad was clearly scared out of his mind hence why he was asking for his mother to be present. He did nothing wrong, offered no threat whatsoever and was sat safely in the car with his hands clearly visible. There is absolutely NO justification for him being assaulted like that. Truly sickening. I hope those cops get what is coming to them. Fecking bullies. No wonder nobody has any respect for the Police in the States anymore. It's also little wonder why most people are scared shitless when confronted by them.

All I thought about (other than how disgusting that film is) is how polite the young lad was being and the fact he is the same age as my eldest lad.

That cop is a fecking wanker on a power trip, who feels disrespected. Whoever touched that iPhone really, really needs to get done on tampering with evidence, simple as that.

do not get out of the car. better to be brought in on resisting arrest than killed. again it's been the public media for over 20+ yrs bring down these new centurions. they are untouchables , other cops stand up for them and spew shi7 like "the pressure we are under" or "in that moment we are the only one's that know". bull , the bad ones get in and the good one defend them.

that makes them bad ones as well in my book

There is so much anger in the cops voice which just doesn't seem justified looking at the kid's behavior.. The kid serving time for resisting arrest as well as assault and battery of a police officer is just a joke..

i meant the same - bad cops with psychological problems get in the PD's of every city because they know someone. the uniform is all that separates them from the criminals. a very long time ago before cell phones (a very long time) my friends and i got done by shady cops , even off duty cops came in to take their swings because they follow it on scanners. we got maced (no tasers back then) and clubbed. not one of us had priors but 4 cops had been brought up on brutality chgs before that never stuck. umm wonder why? the main "culprit" ended up shooting someone (the cop was drinking) with his police revolver whilst he was off duty. shock and awe that one right.

You can be detained but not under arrest. If he said they were detained then they weren't free to leave.

All of these should be getting as much worldwide attention as the Michael Scott shooting. That video is sickening... They're literally pushing each other out of the way to have a go at laying into the guy.

At the end of the article they say "A sheriff's spokesperson tells NBC two officers were treated for dehydration and one may have been kicked by the horse."

God fecking love them! Putting that much effort into kicking the shit out of a guy who instantly spread out on the ground, and they get a little thirsty and have the gall to announce that and expect some sort of sympathy?

Sorry, that's it for the internet. I'm so angry about this right now. fecking pricks

I feel like a fool. I was totally wrong. There's the evidence right there that peacefully sitting in your car won't keep you totally safe. Maybe it will save your life.

Three videos of three different scenarios in the space of a week showing disproportionate use of force. I don't think there's any way to deny there is a serious problem.

I read in the comments section in that link that there were drugs found in the female's vehicle, and that she had prior arrests for possession (joke of system we have when small amounts of marijuana equals jail time/probation/expensive court costs).

However, even if there were drugs found in the vehicle, my curiosity now becomes was it planted or not?

Turning off the video recording makes me highly suspicious.

And how the male was charged with assault is beyond explanation.

Battle Royale with the white Christians in a Walmart parking lot. I guess one of the Christians was shot, and another killed after they did in fact take one of the officer´s guns and shoot him. You do gotta wonder how many of those white Christian dudes would´ve been gunned down one time had they been African Americans.

There are actually police unions arguing against a blanket body cam policy. Hard to believe after all of this.

What's their reasoning?

They think cops will be less likely to do their actual jobs out of fear they may be perceived as going overboard in certain situations. When in fact the opposite is obviously true. If cops do their jobs as they are trained, they would all want bodycams (most already do).

Does seem strange.

All the cop unions care about is protecting the status quo and that includes making sure their members are able to get away with it. The unions need to start being held financially responsible for the actions of its members

There was an assault on a woman inside Wal-Mart by one or two members of the Gaver family. The big guy in the gray shirt seen fighting another man was a Wal-Mart employee who had confronted the family over the alleged assault. Police were called and what we see are additional units called in for support. The family was claimed to have been camping in their vehicle in the parking lot, I presume while traveling to perform their music, and police stated they had dealt with this family before this incident (in a more calm manner).

I'm going to speculate this family may be one of those Christian fundamentalists wacko families considering their family band name, Matthew 24 Now (alluding to the second coming), and child names, Enoch, Jeremiah, and Nathan. Two sons blocked a bathroom entrance while their mother was inside, which apparently led to the alleged assault when a female Wal-Mart employee attempted to enter. Seems very odd to block a public bathroom entrance.

As for the ludicrous comment about being unable to control a group of fat people, any one person ever involved in a mass brawl or fight with multiple people would understand it's not easy, especially if the group is enraged. Been there done that. It's not easy to control groups of people. I've taken my lumps outside bars when attempting to contain/interfere in these kinds of incidents (drunken fights and whatnot). Adrenaline was flowing too freely in this incident, from all sides.

Sorry folks, but I'm not playing the police brutality card in this one. A member of the Gaver family can be seen confronting and touching the police officer and then all hell breaks loose, and this after an initial altercation between the family and the Wal-Mart employee and police. Perhaps one can claim the police were too quick to engage after confrontation. As for the dead man, he supposedly disarmed one officer and shot him during the scuffle, then another officer used his baton to no avail and resorted to using his firearm, killing the man. This is in no way in a similar manner as a few other videos we've watched recently.

Perhaps more details will emerge and I may change my opinion. Had they not been white then it could very well have been much different initially and in the end, as pointed out above. No one could pay me enough to be a cop.

Someone at the PD comments on certain portions of the video below.

Cop claiming he shot a guy dead by accident and that he meant to taser him...

edit: he wasn't actually a cop, just some rich guy who'd donated to the force who'd been brought along to a sting operation. Wow.

http://www.newser.com/story/205339/cops-deputy-73-shot-man-dead-by-mistake.html

The footage of that is crazy. The old guy drops the gun and says "oh no, I shot him, sorry, sorry". Meanwhile all the other cops continue to sit on top of the bloke on the ground, showing absolutely no concern for his welfare. His dying words are "my breath is going", to which a cop responds "feck your breath".

While I certainly do not condone anything done by cops in the last 20 "cops gone wrong" stories, there is a consistent theme. Everyone killed or beat up had a reason to be sought by cops, and in many cases ran from them, etc. Conclusion: don't do anything wrong and you have about a .001% chance of being beat up or killed by cops.

Words fail me.....

I love how he invented his own stats (.001%). If only the odds were that low.

I know, not only does he miss the point completely, he then makes up his own stats to back up the missed point. It would be bad enough but he claims to have seen many of the recent videos circulating the web, albeit with his head clearly buried in the sand.

Harris can be heard saying, "He shot me, man. Oh, my god. I'm losing my breath," to which an officer responds: "feck your breath."

These are cops who know they're being recorded!!

Police say Harris, who died at the hospital less than an hour later, had been seen "reaching for his waistband area" as he fled after selling a gun to an undercover officer

Reach for his waistband is the new 'acting suspiciously'.
