Anderson

Anderson's "suffering" on several fronts it seems. He obviously angered Fergie and is getting punished for that, and I am sure rightly so. Then, it seems like he has to prove his fitness in a Reserve game but they were all cancelled. Further, the team is playing well enough and we dont "need" him, so he is not flying with the team to Milan and has to watch them on TV, he is not on the bench in League games etc.
I just hope he really learned his lesson, that he is regretting whatever he did to piss of Fergie and that he comes back stronger than ever and finally starts playing to his very best

and that's all there is to it really. I doubt if there's any question of him being shown the door. Just disciplined. Not really that complicated.

I understand what you're trying to say, but we really do "need" him available for the Milan game.

I just shudder to think at what a battering his confidence is taking in all of this, regardless of how much of it has been self inflicted.

don't be such a drama queen - wtf has his confidence got to do with it? It's a disciplinary issue. Nobody (and I'm sure least of all Fergie) has questioned his ability. he just needs to knuckle down and play for the team like the rest do. Well over-rated by many but he clearly has the potential to monster the m/f when he puts himself to it. Hopefully that will come. Then he'll opt to go to Madrid. Maybe. :)

I actually thought to myself he looked a bit slimmer. Still looked a bit lazy though, and he has a frustrating habit of stopping and looking confused when an attempted keyhole pass doesn't come off. He made a few very nice passes to Diouf to put him in on goal but overall I didn't think he was as good as a few people seem to be suggesting.

SAF left as soon as he was taken off too, so he was clearly there to watch him, will if he makes the squad at weekend. If he's going to break into the first team he needs to be doing better than tonight imo.

I think we were more than few who thought he did quite well.

Well PS18 thought it as well, and his vote counts double as he's on Twitter. So there.

Fair enough; I still disagree :)

The thing with Anderson is, he's not everyone's cup of tea as he loses the ball twice as many times as he puts someone through on goal. Thus he can seem very frustrating to some, and an inconsistent genius to others (exaggerating a tiny bit)

I'm not saying he was brilliant tonight, because he wasn't - he was better the last time he played for the reserves. But he was still among our best players, and Diouf could have scored his expected 4 goals, had he just been a bit more clinical whenever Anderson put him through on goal with one great through ball after the other.

It's been said before, but I'll say it again; it baffles me when people say he can't pass, as he has shown he's well capable of making some extremely difficult passes. His passing is just very, very inconsistent. The odd thing is, when he does misplace passes it's often because he puts too much power behind the pass, which should be fairly easy to control.

His vision certainly can't be denied.

He looked a bit lither tonight, carrying a wee bit less weight. As Top says, he played some very good balls into danger zones, but also has the odd wayward one.

Certainly a positive performance from him though. We really could do with him fit around this time this season.

I completely agree with you about his passing, and don't get me wrong with my criticism of him tonight - I like him a lot. I just felt that tonight he wasn't really on it and I expected more from him in a game at that level. Yes he can be clinical and his vision is great but I think sometimes he needs to keep it a little more simple and build play up rather than always looking for a Hollywood 40 yard pass through the eye of a needle.

He had a few very nice moments tonight but overall I just expected more. Maybe I'm asking for too much after his lay off, but I definitely hope and expect to see an improvement in coming weeks.

Depending on how dangerous the balls he gave away were (dangerous to our own goal, that is), I'd happily have a few more missed passes for a few more dangerous through passes.

It would make sense if he kept things short and simple until he played himself into form and then when he's earnt his place by showing he can keep the ball well, he can start to look for more difficult, longer passes.

Yes, similar to Nani where he learned that he doesn't have to do a fancy trick every time to get past a man, that instead he can just pass it. Hopefully Ando will take a thing or two from Nani's book, because Nani has completely turned it around for me (I hope).

Why would SAF want to sell a player who, in his early 20's, has years to go before achieving his potential? If the player has fallen out with the manager then he will learn that hard way before getting back into the squad - which, when he does, I expect he will be a better player for it.
United would take a huge loss on the player should he be sold and I can't think for one reason why he would. He is young enough to mold, mature and grow into the player SAF bought him to be. A petulant spat will only put him on the sideline for a while.
Considering his age, I don't think the lad has done too bad over the last few seasons. As a teenager he had to adapt to living in a different country for the second time, this time learning a new language. There aren't many 20 year old midfielders that spring to mind who are regulars in the middle ofthe park and stand out as quaility - especially playing for one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Exactly! He's done pretty fn good really. And if there is a problem, and that gets sorted, he'll end up a quality player for us

Anderson Excels For The Reserves

Anderson, apparently, has not given up. It seems he regarded being left out of the squad that achieved a historic and stunning win at Milan as a challenge rather than an insult: he seemed determined to put up a good show for the Reserves tonight.

Of course a fully focused and committed Anderson should be far too good for the Reserve league and so it proved: he was the outstanding player for the 60 minutes he spent on the pitch, at the heart of all of United's best attacking moves. His neat pass brought about the opening goal, coolly put away by Mame Biram Diouf who enjoyed a pleasant evening and was also taken off after 60 minutes, presumably to preserve him for the Everton game on Saturday.

Will Anderson be involved there? Not clear yet but with Giggs injured and Carrick suspended for the return leg against Milan we need to bring him back sooner rather than later because we simply won't have enough midfielders for the second leg and that would be awfully dangerous even in the enviable position of being 3-2 up after the away leg. He has to be brought back into the team over the next three weeks so that he'll be in good enough shape by March 10.

By the way, the Reserves won 2-0, the second goal coming courtesy of Cameron Stewart after good work by the impressive Gabriel Obertan. Rodrigo Possebon was back in action after his unsuccessful loan stint at Braga and he was good enough though looked a little bit overweight - or is he more muscular these days and that deceived my eyes? Maybe. Fabio got injured, again. Depressing.

Disagree with that match report. Anderson was not the outstanding player (Obertan was) and Possebon did not look overweight. Someone watching on a dodgy stream?

Anderson was definitely one of the best players on the pitch though. Which is to be expected really. I'd be worried if he wasn't.

He hit some really incisive passes and generally used the ball well. A few trademark Anderson howitzers over the head of his intended target but a few absolutely inch perfect through balls inside the full back. Not as good as his last reserve outing but I think that can be put down to lack of games in recent weeks. His class was evident and fair play to him for getting out there on a grim night and putting a shift in.

I agree he looked slimmer. I also noticed he had a scruffy wee beard and his dreds were more unkempt than usual. Maybe a sign that he's cut down on his social life and spending more time in the gym and on the training pitch?

Obertan did look classy.

With Anderson, it's interesting that most of the time his passes are misplaced is when he is trying the killer through ball. Also he hits the ball too hard at times. His short passing seems sound (and that's not necessarily something all midfielders have mastered). Is it a case of reining him in a bit? Or have management simply not worked out his best position? Or is it a technical problem with the weight of the pass?

I hope he is not sold because he has great potential, and midfielders (if indeed he is one) do take time to mature. And he's not even 22 yet...

He should learn from Scholes while he can, about length and weight of pass, because no one passes like Scholes...

i heard a rumour from a footy nerd that United tried loaning him to Lyon but they were not interested.

Bullshhit most likely.

We need him. Great to hear he looks slimmer too.

We need a new Anderson thread.

How about "Anderson will kick start our second Treble season"

I would if we were still in the FA Cup

glad to see that he is still trying and seems he is doing well and will hopefully be bacj in the first team set up sooner rather than later.

In terms of his passing, he can pull off a killer pass but he has to realise that he can't do it with every pass. If his passing is off he needs to revert back to the simple pass rather than trying even harder passes. But this will come with age.

Fergie said he's back in the frame for Everton after his outing in the rezzies. Hopefully he'll pull his finger out and start showing the form we saw in his first season at United.

Needs to play against Everton or West Ham if he's to play against Milan in my opinion.

Manchester United - Anderson Excels For The Reserves

I was wondering what had hapenned to this guy.

I don't but was this not made public via the official site?

Official site also has a section where they will have stories about United from other sources. It's just a look what other people are speculating about us. Maybe that was one of the stories they had linked.

But, there hasn't been any official word on anything Anderson related from player, player's agent or club representative on the circumstances around Anderson for the last month or so.

Yep, I think the West Ham match will be the perfect chance to give Anderson some playing time. It will also give us the opportunity to rest either Fletcher or Carrick for the Carling Cup Final.

Think I'd prefer to stick with the Fletcher/Carrick duo for the Everton match, though... It will be a tough match.

Carrick/Fletch have to play against Everton, maybe make a sub appearance late on.

Play against West Ham and Villa in the CC Final (on merit of playing in the early rounds).

Against Wolves comes on as a sub for Fletch as they prepare for the Milan game.

Manchester United midfielder Anderson considered move away from Old Trafford
By Ian Ladyman Last updated at 1:03 AM on 23rd February 2010

Brazilian midfielder Anderson has admitted that he has considered whether he has a future at Old Trafford since falling out of Sir Alex Ferguson's team in the last month.

Along with returning defenders Rio Ferdinand and Nemanja Vidic, Anderson is in contention for a place in the Manchester United team for Tuesday's Barclays Premier League home game against West Ham.

He has not featured at all since the 2-1 Carling Cup defeat at Manchester City more than a month ago and during that time the 21-year-old disappeared to Brazil after skipping a training session.

'I went to Brazil to think about my future,' admitted Anderson. 'I didn't go there to negotiate with other clubs, though.

'It's been a difficult season for me as I haven't played enough games. 'The coach has asked me for more effort and I accept that but I need more chances to play in the first team. I have explained my situation in private to him.

'I am not a machine. It is impossible to function at 100% in each match. I accept that my work was not good during some matches but those were not significant enough to stop me playing for a long time I hope.

'Sincereley, I am not finished at United. I insist that I can offer much to this team in the decisive moments of the season.

Ferguson will reshape his team for tonight's match after Saturday's defeat at Everton, with Ferdinand certain to play at the back after serving a suspension and Vidic also hopeful of a game after recovering from injury.

Whether Anderson plays remains to be seen by the former Porto player admitted last night he must return to action soon if his place in Brazil's World Cup squad isn't to be seriously threatened.

'One of the my dreams this season is to be in the Brazil squad for the World Cup but if i do not play for United then the coach Dunga is not interested in me,' explained Anderson.

'This is very hard for me because I need minutes on the field during the coming matches.

'I have won titles here but still the people have not seen my real performance on the field. 'I am a professional footballer and my responsibility is to United. Am I happy? I am optimistic but if I play more then I will be more content. That is normal.'

Oh dear Anderson. Was going to the press with this really the best idea given your situation?

I hope he realises that he will only play if he does very well in training and on the pitch... Seems like he missed that point

There is nothing bad in that unless suddenly it is bad for a player to speak to anyone. He said he's talked to SAF in private, didn't divulge any details and just given his side of things.

Lets not make a non-issue into an issue.

I'm sure Fergie would have prefered Anderson to go to the media about it as opposed to him... There's nothing wrong with the article, the quotes clear up alot of the misconceptions, and if anything this is closure to the past and we can move towards the future.

I hope the lad can kick it into gear in time for the run-in, he could be vital like he was last season.

Anderson has been my biggest disappointment of the season. After Ronaldo and Tevez left they took some of our cutting edge with them I was hoping people like Anderson and Nani I didn't hope much for Nani based on previous seasons but after his start to the season and the goal at Tottenham I really thought this would spur Anderson's development but it hasn't which is a pity because he is such a likeable guy.
