Anderson

Yep a weird one alright. Still, it was a refreshing change from the tight tactical games we are used to.

Just 2 good teams trying desperately to win a game of football.

Aye, it was strange to see the midfield being largely bypassed in such a big match, but there was some superb football being played and it was hugely entertaining.

I thought he did pretty well. Not his best game, but not helped by having a luckstre pair of Berbatov and Owen to find for most of the game. Still would like him to want the ball more but I felt he grew as the game went on.

He's much better when the whole team is playing at a fast tempo. Without Rooney and Hernandez in front, he struggled

I liked the way Anderson really tried to drive forward with the ball in the second half. Very dynamic. He let midfield runners run off him a bit too much for comfort but we were chasing the game so that's not the worst crime ever.

Beautiful little scooped pass to Owen too.

I thought he played okay actually.

Nah...I know he didn't exactly have a ton of movement in front of him to lay on a lot of passes, but the midfield was so wide open today(as it has been with just about all out matches tbf) he could have easily driven forward a lot more. He - not completely his fault, failed to provide us with any thrust in the middle. I know out strength is outwide, but that works best, when the blokes in the middle run at the defenders to draw them in, and then pass the ball wide/into space.

It just didn't happen. I'm sure his passes completed stats will look decent enough, as will the numbers Fletch put up, but watching that, those two played like total strangers on completely different wavelengths.

It's not the end of the world and I'm not trying to single him out, we got a tough away point, and we didn't have out best strike partnership upfront, and to make it worse, we had dysfunctional Berba/Owen pairing, so a draw isn't a bad thing, especially thinking about last season away from home

When he's on form he's class. But i'm sorry, his fitness is still appalling. After about 60 minutes today he just stopped spriting, for anything. And just walked/jogged his way around the pitch. His pass at the end was Scholes-esq mind.

Agree with this. He grew as the game went on and started dictated. Me liked. I thought that was one of the positives of the game.

Er, what? He was better as the game went on. I thought that was fairly obvious.

I've yet to nominate my MotM, but Anderson is up there in the mix of it. My only grumble with him today and it is only minor. As the last 10 minutes came he started to look for more Hollywood passes, rather than keeping the ball to help build up the pressure on the Stoke defence. When he goes into that mode, we are looking at over hit passes or passes easily intercepted.

However, he was the only one trying to drive us forward at the end, and that is to be commended.

I thought he was pretty good. One of the main criticisms of him as that he doesn't really do it away from home but I think (and hope) that we'll be hearing less and less of that as the season goes on.

Agreed. I love watching him run with the ball and he can make a brilliant pass out of nowhere. He just needs to find consistency in his passing. He gives the ball away too much. Hopefully it will come with experience.

I just think generally he had a lack of passing options!

Fletcher never made himself available for Anderson except if it was a sideways or backwards pass. Fletcher wasn't dynamic enough.

At one point I was SCREAMING for Owen or Berbatov to make a darting run TOWARDS the ball but noone moved. With this you can't really blame Anderson.

I thought he had a good game. A couple of times he gave the ball away but this wasn't atrocious. You'll give the ball away if you are trying more penetrative passes. Fact is - he is definitely one of the best passers in our team.

But Berbatov and Owen were poor. Berbatov's movement off the ball nowhere near good enough. And Owen was a little too slow in movement and also in terms of reading the game. So our attackers were marked out of the game. Would have been very different with a fit Rooney/Hernandez/Wellbeck/Cleverley!

That said - had we managed to ensure that Crouch didn't have a free header or that Giggs buried that cross it would have been a completely different story!

Without much support from Fletcher, Anderson found himself alone in the center, a lot. Many a times he was surging forward and looking to exchange a pass, no one was there.

He didn't make my top 3 in the MOTM but i thought he put in a very decent, 6.5 - 7 out of 10 level performance. He wasn't helped by a lack of movement in front of him but like you say he kept trying to drive us forward, and that lovely scooped pass to Owen right at the end was one of the best moments of the match.

He can't play well with Fletcher. Cleverley or Carrick would be his ideal partner.

Fletcher has been out for a long while it will take him time to get back his dynamism. Is cleverley the best fit for Ando? Too early to tell.

Our defense, de gea, nani and Anderson all performed well. Happy with his performance.

Why? They all have fundamentally different styles, so what is it that Cleverley and Carrick have in common that Fletcher doesn't?

I can't remember the last time we played Fletcher and Anderson together before Fletcher lost form.

You're so fecking boring. Everyone knows your stupid theory. Nobody agrees with you. Please stop repeating yourself.

I'm boring... Jesus you talk the same shite week in week out, defending players who have clearly played badly but you keep those red tinted glasses on.

As for my 'theory' it has been proved right on far to many occasions to be dismissed.

Just based on previous observation. Carrick allows Anderson to freely expressing himself on the pitch, while the chemistry with Cleverley allows us to play fluid one touch pass and move football in high tempo. Fletcher though, I have yet to see any good build up play coming out from the two.

How is that a good article? The main premise seems to be that Anderson and Cleverley work well together because of Cleverley's energy. Fletcher is all about energy. He then makes a point about Fletch playing deeper against Chelsea, but it was Chelsea ffs and he then goes on to say Fletch got forward more against Stoke. People seem to want to create an issue where there isn't one.

I think this too. It's more a comment on Fletch's current fitness than anything else. Hopefully he's playing his way back to his old self.

If not, January looms.

Anderson and Cleverley suit each other's game brilliantly. Yes, Rooney and Nani will take the plaudits but a large part of the reason we were so magnificent for the first few games and our passing and build up play was so quick and accurate was this midfield partnership. I can't wait for Tom to come back from injury, hopefully he and Anderson will strike up the same sort of understanding straight away.

Now had time to reflect and still feel that Anderson was fine. Of course he'd be better with a more dynamic creative partner (i.e. Cleverley).

People would read differently if we'd won the game and perhaps this is one of the ones you grind out. But Giggs missed an open goal and for all of the praise Nani is getting, he also missed an open goal! And we should have had 2 penalties.

And how did we allow Crouch to score the header from a corner! (Grrr)

So I don't think we did two bad playing Stoke away from home, suffering major 3 injuries to players on the day before and in the build up and having 8 players out with injuries!

Rafael
Vidic
Evans
Smalling
Carrick
Cleverley
Welbeck (just coming back from injury)
Hernandez

In my belief had we had one of these players back and we'd have won the game.

But in the grand scheme of things this game is no biggie!

Really really bad today. He was just walking back when we lost the ball. I know it isn't his game but christ he was terrible defensively.

I blame Fletcher! ;-)

Seriously the cm's today were poor defensively I actually think it may have been a case of not giving the opposition enough respect and pushing forward to often.
