I don't know about shipping out Carrick because I think he played some of the best football I've seen from him for some time during the title run in. I do agree with you about Ando though.
I mentioned elsewhere that we, as United fans, probably expect too much from young players because of the way the class of 92 clouded our expectations. Anderson, as you say, is still young and still has room to grow. The example I like to use when it comes to Ando is that of Riqueleme.
Nobody would argue that Riqueleme wasn't one of the world's best midfielders at his peak. People still argue that Argentina would've held their lead against Germany had Riquelme not been subbed off in the last 8 of the 2006 World Cup and gone on to win the tournament.
But Riqueleme was older than Anderson is now when he was being booted out of Barcelona as an expensive flop. Not everyone develops as fast as Rooney and Ronaldo.
Anderson has showed he has the goods. Yes, he's been inconsistent but with age he's getting less so. Last season before he got injured at winter he was first XI and when he returned to the side he was red hot barring the Arsenal away game (in which nobody played well).
From Ando's MOM performance at home against Everton he continually played well and he also added goals to his game over the last month or so to the season as well. If that's not demonstrable progress what is? Give him time and I know Anderson will evolve into a world class box-to-box midfielder.
