Arsenal vs. Manchester United

Is a cross in the box considered a clear goalscoring opportunity?

Because I've always understand that term to mean the attacking player had to be in possession of the ball in a goalscoring chance and then is fouled.
Or a blatant handball denying a goal-bound effort.

:lol::lol:

The term means that the defender has denied a clear goal scoring opportunity by breaking the rules which Vidic clearly did.

The commentator is a complete knobhead. Was saying something like

"Oh what great luck United have had over the weekend in the Chelsea match and now today"

Complete idiot.

People criticising Vidic? That was a masterclass in cheating and saved us from being 1-0 down. The only person on the pitch who saw that was van Persie.

What the hell does Jamie Redknapp know? The man talks so much shite I honestly don't know whether he needs a hankerchief or a breath mint.

He said he has sympathy with the lino yesterday because it was a hard call, but this one was obvious and if he can't see that he shouldn't be in the job.

Erm, how about if the lino doesn't see it clearly yesterday he simply doesn't do anything? I'm quite sure making a total guess is worse than missing an extremely slight handball.

Not if your cousin and some of your mates play for Chelsea.

Can everyone stop bitching about the handball FFS! none of us saw it in real time even the commentators thought he headed it live, and after yesterdays calamity arent we due a bit of fecking luck go our way after the barrel load Chelsea get these days.

Luck has feck all to do with it. He ran the risk and it could have fecked up 2 very important games. Being without Vidic against Drogba and/or Torres next week would be a huge loss

Risk being sent off, down to 10 men at the emirates and behind by a goal and then miss the game against the chavs, where we need him more than we need him today ? Nah thanks. I'd rather go behind a goal than have Vidic sent off.

Eh? You don't think Van Persie was denied a clear goalscoring opportunity by having the ball taken off his head?

That's my question: how does a cross count as a clear goalscoring chance when the attacking player is not in possession of the ball?

There's a probability that he misses the cross, heads wide or ever or the keeper saves.

I'm asking if the rules states anything about a cross inside the six yard area.

How was yesterday a hard call? He was 15 yards behind play, he was never in a position to make that call about Chelsea's first goal. He bowed to pressure from the Chelsea players and crowd.

It was still a difficult header and there was still goalkeepr to beat. It was risky tactic. I wouldn't mind going 1-0 down to Arsenal, but going a goal down and a man down would have been a disaster.

Redknapp's a twat. A lino that doesn't know for sure if the ball crossed the line should be making no call. If he is guessing if it did then he is far more deserving of not being linesman.

Come on United - lets get our freaking act together, we can't just sleep through this.

I was quite perplexed by that statement. How is Chelsea being given 2 goals that weren't goals count as luck to us?

No it just says an infringement which denies a clear goalscoring opportunity I think.

That error from the lino was worse than giving Chelsea the goal yesterday apparently.

Jamie Redknapp, ladies and gentleman.

He's right, to be honest. The handball was about as blatant as it gets and I find it difficult to believe that the linesman didn't have a good look at it.

Lets hope we can win it this half. We can't get any worse really.

Souness reckons Arsenal have been magnificent?

Typical Arsenal, pass pass pass pass pass nothing - we've had the best chance.

I agree with Souness also, Arsenal have been the much better team this half and just because they've battered us in passing and possession you can't shrug it off with the pass pass pass comment. As someone said, if this was Barca they'd probably have taken a chance.

Our passing and play has been off, we keep doing long balls. The attempted Fabio to Hernandez cutback was a nice move though, shame it didn't come off. Hope SAF gets into them and changes it up, we need to be better.

:nervous: what I'm afraid of now , is that the ref may give a very soft decision - and I'll bet the they'll all roll and dive around :(

He couldn't be more wrong, actually.

The handball wasn't blatant for a start, nobody other than RVP saw it before getting the benefit of a replay, and even if it had been blatant, missing something is not as bad as inventing something. That should be quite simple, really.

Unfortunately, Arsenal are the only team looking like they're actually trying to win this match. I'm not too optimistic if we're to continue sitting on the edge of our box hoping for the best.

That's not a clear goal scoring opportunity foul. Handball for stopping it going over the line is a red. Deliberate handball in the box is a yellow. Not sure where you guys are getting that's a regular foul that is denying a clear goal scoring opportunity.

I agree. It was a yellow and penalty. If he had handled the ball after RVP had headed the ball then it would've been a red.

it was easier to see the handball for the linesman that it was for chelsea´s goal, not saying it was an easy call but it was easier than the goal.
