I'm surprised people are expecting more from this Chelsea side. Their spine that won them so much over the past decade has aged or been sold off. Bedding in youth talent and new signings will take some time to work. It doesn't help that the managers position is a revolving door. I know it's the "in thing" to blame Benitez, but this has been long overdue for Chelsea.
The young team was bedding in just fine at the beginning of the season, playing some scintillating football. When Robbie was sacked, we were just 4 points behind, still well in the title race and unfortunate to go out of the CL with the highest ever points/GD total not to qualify.
We played with fight and confidence, getting big results away at Arsenal and Spurs and being unlucky to be done against United by an offside goal against 9 men (one of whom shouldn't have been red carded).
We are now a shadow of that side, miles off the title race, out of almost every competition (with nothing to show for it) and with a club in absolute disarray.
There is not a way on earth that persevering with Roberto would have turned out as badly as this. And even if it had, the fans would still have been behind him.
