Feel sorry for Berbatov but not as much as I did for Park in 2008 who played a crucial role in us getting to the final back then. I guess Ferguson just thought who would be most likely to bring him a goal from the bench if really needed and I guess his gut said Owen.

If we needed a goal, Fergie would probably prefer Owen and if a striker got injured early, we'd probably go 4-5-1; in that sense Berba would've been purely a waste of a sub. Terrible, given his form and his commitment this season, for the lad.

Definitely, feel for Berba more though. Rafael has years and years left, Berba will be off in the Summer. He's the league's top scorer and not even included in the squad. He won't stay after this. I don't reckon.

You might be right but my gut reckons Berbatov will stick around. If Ferguson still values him and I believe he does, then the manager will convince him to stay.
I hope stays which you wouldn't have seen me stay this time last year. Wouldn't have won the league without him for sure but I get the manager's thinking behind his choices for the bench even if I would have gone for Berbatov over Anderson.

Barca is the worst team for Berba to play against, IMO. He'd have a lot of trouble getting the ball and we need players who are quicker moving into space, etc. SAF obviously doesn't have an intention of having a player hold the ball in their end. All about quick counter attacks, I'd imagine.
Owen is a better impact sub and hte closest thing to Chicha, that's true. Berba is a different striker and SAF has decided he doesn't need what he offeres. Simple. Not the end of the world...though Berba must feel like shit right now

Not scored for ages in the CL and scored once ever for us off the bench. I dont think its as big a surprise as some are making out, but I do think its still a close choice between Berbatov and Owen. But the fact is Owen scores more often when he comes off the bench and has scored more recently in the CL. So...

At 2-1 down we could have brought berba on to hold the ball up to allow other players to join the attack instead we had nothing on the bench. The whole bench was geared up for us to get a goal and the lead and hold out for the win but saf didnt realise the gulf between us and Barcelona is enormous!

I didn't see or catch a glimpse of any of the players left out tonight to be fair, Rafael, O'Shea, J Evans, Obertan, Gibson or Bebe at any point. Very easy for someone to make up a rumour like that to be fair, and it's probably come from Twtter, the source of all knowledge!
It came from Sky's touchline reporter, he said all our other unused players sat behind the dug out, but Berbatov was not there and the word he had gotten was he was upset and had left.
