Berbatov | Fulham player

The guy's on probably £100k+. He'd cost upwards of £5m in wages alone so if you give him a 2/3 year contract thats £10-15m+. In addition to a fee of about £5m he suddenly becomes very expensive with very little resale value.

Nobody signing him would want to sell him in the future. You dont buy a 31 year old for that. We didnt even sign a 28? year old for that.

You generally don't sign players will the express intention of selling in the future but having re-sale value is a hedge against risk.

Galatasaray? That's a huge stepdown. Are they in the CL next season?

Though as a fan, i hope he stays at the club and get the games he deserves

Hardly a step down. He has basically had a wasted year in his career sat on the bench. At least with Galatasaray you would assume he will get games.

He'll get games and get a decent pay, so it's a good move for him and also added with some champions league football for good measure.

If he goes there then I hope we draw them so he can get a proper send off with plenty of applause at OT

I'm not sure he can really hold out a "Champions league only" card

I mean his record in the competition is more likely to put teams off him

He'd be a hit in Turkey and it's not like it's an exotic direction for European players these days.

galatasaray is a good call for him. Utd will get between 5-6 million pounds and he will be on annual wages between 3-4 million Euro with a minimum 2 year contract. Playing in the CL as well. The Turkish league is slower and more technical and Galatasaray is always a top contender for the title. They have an ambitious president and a manager who is considered to be a deity in Turkey.

and not even an hour's flight from Sofia.

I've literally never seen a Turkish league game. Have you? Is it really that much slower? Fenerbahce and Galatasaray always looked like pacey sides in Europe.

Yes, watch a few matches every season. Compared to the Premiership, definitely slower in general. I guess that this would apply to all leagues though.

I like going to Istanbul and have been to a couple of matches there over the years as well. Fanatical atmosphere, great place for football.

Must be over 20 times now media has gone with a story about a team ready to lodge a bid for Berba yet nothing happens. Getting a bit tiresome.

Tbh we're in a pretty weak position, clubs know he's on high wages and not in Fergie's plans and wants to leave, they don't have to force the issue at all.

Even Gala dont want him at £5 million. 4 years is a long time in football.

Seems its a short time in the media though as the dailymail article suggests they think he's been here just 2 years.

Why can't Milan swoop in and take him off our hands like they've done with so many other high profile 30-somethings over the years?

because milan have completely changed their age profile of their squad. if berba went there, he'd be their 2nd or 3rd oldest field player.

Berbatov is the leper of football..no fecker wants him

Don't be absurd; he is a wonderful player, a golden boot winner that would walk into most sides. The thing is that most teams can't afford his wages.

Plenty of top teams could afford his wages and the posts he gets on here about how good he is, you'd think one of them would like to have him.

Look at Zlatan, hes only a year younger and he's still getting huge money moves with clubs all too happy to pay big wages. But not for Berbatov.

Comparing Ibra to Berb is desperate. Regardless of the superior talent and brand awareness, one has been a constant starter on two big teams and spearheaded his nation at the Euros. The other has spent two seasons as bench fodder, blowing hot and cold.

Berb isn't a leper but he won't go for over eight digits and that's Fergie's fault for not showcasing him.

Every week, there is a new team in for him but nothing is concrete and everyone keeps denying that they are actually want him.

It's quite depressing really. He just shouldn't be here this season, he won't get any game time.

from Sky

The Times is a line about Queens Park Rangers preparing an offer for Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov as they continue the comprehensive revamp of a squad that evaded relegation narrowly last season.

How many strikers do they have have already? Its somewhere around 5-6. They need to sell a couple of them before they get Berbatov.

Although I hate QPR, Id like them to get Berba, purely because I think he deserves to play in the Premiership, and because I want to see him play every week.

If he does go there, QPR will have a ridiculous amount of strikers. Zamora, Berbatov, Cisse, Helguson, Johnson, DJ Cambell, and I could be forgetting one or two! Surely they wont sign another striker?

Mackie and Bothyrod too and I thought Campbell was sold.

P.S. Never mind, he is strongly linked with Watford.

Campbell is on the verge of leaving, Helguson is 100 years old, Johnon is useless which leaves Cisse and Zamora. Berbatov would be guaranteed to start. Massive statement of ambition by QPR if they indeed intend to bid.

Oh yeah. And Taarabt, who isnt a striker, but his best position is playing off a lone-striker. A Taarabt-Berba partnership would be interesting to say the least.
