Berbatov | Fulham player

That's a steal for the PL top scorer. Bent cost more than that. Played every game of last season, started 37 and scored less than Berba.

Anything lower is an insult.

Berbatov is 30+ he max has a few good season left in him.. He also has effectively 1+1 year left on his contract.. We bought him for 30M 3 years back and are getting offered 18M right now.. Only an idiot would think that is not the absolute best deal we can get for him right now..

Also I see many people saying why we are looking to sell our top scorer last season.. I am of the opinion that if somebody else has played those games and minutes that Berbatov played in the 1st half of the season, when Rooney was out of the squad/injured.. Had he not been out of the squad so much.. He would have scored as many goals or probably even more than Berbatov.. If you look at it he got 1/4 of his goals in 1 game against Blackburn and almost 1/3 of his goals in those 2 games.. The 5+3 goals he scored in those 2 games last season (Blackburn & Liverpool respectively) a great feat I agree but I am just looking at it as it is..

I like him and I agree that he offers something different from the other strikers.. He holds the ball up very well and brings the overall gameplay of our team up.. He galvanises our team.. But I really don't see him as an impact player though.. He slows the tempo down of our quick paced game as well.. His form has been horrible since he had been dropped for Hernandez last season..

The fact that he is ageing and we have a multitude of talent coming through our youth system with the likes of Welbeck and Macheda desperate for 1st team football.. makes the money apparently offered by PSG well worth taking.. I was shocked when SAF signed Owen on for another year then he went on to say that Macheda will be at Man Utd too and then another shock was given when he confirmed that he would not allow Welbeck to go out on loan either.. How the feck are we going to have 6 strikers (Rooney, Hernandez, Berbatov, Owen, Welbeck, Macheda) at the club even if we get rid of Diouf? Something has got to give.. Hernandez and Rooney are 100% safe and SAF has said the other 3 will remain too.. The only one who we should be uncertain about is Berbatov and at the age he is at I would rather SAF get rid of him than any of the other 4 (minus Owen)..

However if we fail to get in another player a CM I can see us being top heavy since we are a bit light in the CM positions.. All other positions will cover others.. Forwards will cover for wingers who will cover for CM's example Welbeck covers for Park on the wings who in turn covers for an injured/suspended/rested CM..

The story is probably complete bollocks, as 99% of the stories about possible transfers usually are. And here we are speculating about speculation.

Has anyone stopped to think that Berbatov may not want to go to France? No disrespect but Ligue 1 is not the Premier League.

It makes sense to sell him financially, but he is still one of the top strikers around and has a lot to offer still IMO.

Does he want another season of being left out of nearly every big game?

I don't want Berba to leave, but I could see Fergie justify buying another big name player (Sneijder or otherwise) by making a sale to offset things a bit, particularly if its Berba for 18m (which is probably BS TBH).

I reckon we'll keep him but depending on the form of other players (Chicharito, Welbeck) we may sell him to PSG in January.

He'd still be of use to them then if they don't drop out of the Europa League so the fee would still be decent.

dunno but most caftards here want him to go if there is a big offer comes in...
Do they? I don't.

Selling him would just reduce our experienced strikers by one with no appreciable gain. We won't buy someone else if he goes and we'll have a vacant squad place.

If the aim this year is to improve our squad then selling last year's top goalscorer is not the way forward. Better we lose that resale value than reduce our chance to win the league this year.

Anyway Berba has the final say in whether he goes or not.

Unless a confirmed offer comes in which I vey much doubt I don't think we are desprate to ell Berba.

Berbatov, Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck, Marcheda, Diouf, Owen.

Fergies always said we need 4 top class strikers.

Diouf will get moved on and Marcheda will most likely get loaned to a PL club. Owen with his injury record cannot be relied upon in that 4 and is more like a backup insurance, especially if his pay as you play deal is reportedly true. So...

Berbatov, Rooney, Hernandez and Welbeck. (owen)

very comfortable with that 4 going into the start of the league, only Oil money can match that.

I'm not desperate for us to sell him, I do like Berbatov. I just think if a very good offer comes in for him, then maybe it wouldn't be so bad to take it.

For a guy in the last year of his contract, who's in his 30's and who probably won't be first choice next season, 18-20m wouldn't be so bad to take.

Doesn't the uncertainty about Hernandez (concussion) make selling Berbatov at this time a risky move?

If United are going to sell him, I would be happier if they waited until the end of the transfer window. You can never tell with concussions and if Hernandez is not ready against Spurs and Arsenal, I would rather have Berbatov as an option, than have to rely on Wellbeck or Owen.

United striker Dimitar Berbatov has no interest in a switch to Paris Saint Germain.

The 30-year-old striker has been told United are not looking to extend his contract, which expires next summer.

But Berbatov’s agent Emil Dantchev insists the Bulgarian is intent on staying at United.

Dantchev said: “Berbatov will definitely stay, he’s happy at the club and the club wants him to stay. That is all anyone needs to know.

“People should trust the official statements of the club and I hope that everyone understands that the matter of Dimitar Berbatov is closed.”

Isn't the highlight a bit of a contradiction

I'm fearful that if the club does try to sell Berbatov he'll got on a tantrum like he did at Spurs. Too many of the "i'll see out my contract" quotes from his agent and himself going down. I don't like it.

there is no guarantee than hernandez, or even rooney is going to be fit and in top form all season long as well. meaning any time hernandez is unavailable we will have to turn to welbeck or owen, or macheda, if berba is not in the team any more.

i like welbeck. he certainly got great potential and could become our main striker. but he is only 20 and he got a few injury problems over the last few years. i think to make him our 3rd choice forward this season is a bit of a risk. i'll happy to have him as our 4th choice though. my point here is that i got no doubt about welbeck's quality, it is just some issues with his fitness and vulnerability to injuries that concerns me a bit.

owen was a world class striker but i'm not sure whether he can really play 90 minutes and influence the game like berba now. he is a good option to have coming off the bench when we needed a goal but i'll rather have welbeck in our starting line up than mickey owen these days. owen still can offer us a few goals but not from the start and not for the big league games i'm afraid.

i hope berba is going to stay. to have rooney, hernandez, berbatov, welbeck and owen means we got a great chance of winning the league again. no other team in england got quality 5 forwards like we have now. macheda can perhaps spend a year on loan to another premiership club, while i'm sure diouf is good enough to play for a premier league team as well.

remember last season our strikers took their turn to impress. berba was the star performer at the start of last season while rooney was struggling badly and hernandez was just trying to settling in. then towards the second half of the season rooney started to get back to his old best before hernandez explodes and become one of our top performer towards the end of the season.

compare this to a season earlier, the 2009/10 season when we did't have hernandez and only have rooney, berba and owen. owen got injured in february and was ruled out for the season. then rooney got injured in april and we only have berba and macheda available. in the end we lost the league tittle.

last season we have berba with 20 league goals, hernandez with 13. rooney with 11 and even nani got 9..the goals were spreaded and we won the league. i hope that is going to be the case with this season as well.

Personally I hope we keep Berbatov, I like the guy. What I am saying is if they do decide to sell, I hope they do it at the end of August. As for Wellbeck and Owen, I certainly see their worth to the club, Wellbeck could very well grow into a top striker and Owen once was and still shows that quality from time to time. I just think we would be a little thin up top if Berbatov is sold now and Hernandez is out longer than we hope with the concussion.

i rather we keep him too, its not just money but to consider his worth to the team, I refuse to think his time at united is over yet....

Welbeck would be a decent 3rd choice striker IMO but admittedly it is somewhat of a risk. I think it's a case of when rather than if he is ready though.

Also worth taking into account that Ashley Young could operate as a second striker. He's more proven than Welbeck so if were unwilling to risk Danny in a big match then 4231 with Young in behind the front man is a real option. Likewise a player like Sneijder would fill that role. I'm not following that transfer but I think it'd open the exit door for Berbatov tbh.

Personally o think Berbatov will stay but next season I think our 4 strikers will be Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck and Macheda. Which looks potentially fantastic to me.

I'd rather him stay, and even extend his contract, than to let him go to PSG.

He's a very good player, and has even learned to apply himself much more effectively in the team this past season. 18mil will not buy us much today, and I'm not convinced Welbeck is ready to replace him this season.

18m for a 30 yr old player with 1 yr left in his contract is value for money. Berba never fully settled in our system which is based on hardwork and fast counter attack and had just 1 good season with us (last season). Berba need to have a team built around him and we can't provide him that.

Fergie on Sneijder and Berba

The Scot, however, did confirm that Dimitar Berbatov may depart the Premier League club, bound for newly-rich Paris St Germain. When asked whether the Bulgarian striker would join the Ligue 1 side, Ferguson replied: "Yes, he might. That's possible."

Sounds like Fergie is actually thinking of selling, probably to justify buying another player.

Sir Alex Ferguson coy over Dimitar Berbatov's Manchester United future

• Ferguson says striker could 'absolutely' play for PSG
• United manager gives cryptic response to French journalist

 Did they even watch the interview? He didn't know what the feck he was being asked.

I dont want him to go, great striker when on form. We need to have a strong squad squad that gives us different options in tight matches and quality cover at times of injuries.

Personally, I've never felt Berbatov is best suited for our style of football but what is with the "good money for a 30 year old etc etc" nonsense? If there's any striker who can maintain his productivity all to his mid 30s, it's Berbatov.

Latest Twitter rumour (see the transfer forum) is that he's due to meet PSG within 48 hours. Wont be too sad if he goes. Extremely talented but at that age I'd take the money and run. And if it means more chances for Welbeck and Macheda, I'm all for it.

20 million is a hell of a lot for a player in his 30's. I've been a a fan of Berbatov but I don't think he will have a better season this year then he did last year. We payed a lot for him and I think this sort of deal will never come round again.

I'd thank him for his service and ask him to accept a new challenge with PSG (who obviously have very high ambition)
