Berbatov | Fulham player

why would he leave on a free?
if for some reason the club dont want him after next season, they can sell him.
He'll be like any other player who is not wanted by the club and is transfer listed

But his contract will be up, unless they decide to take up the one year option when it expires

if they dont want him/want to sell him. they will extend it by a year and sell him rather than letting him go on a free
if they want to keep him, they'll probably offer him a new contract after the season.

I hope we keep him. Hernandez and Welbeck have great potential but the importance of a quality experienced striker seems to be forgotten. Owen is injury prone, and besides for Rooney, Berbatov is our only experienced striker.

Twitter rumors that PSG Have bid €21.5million for Berbatov. As much as I love Berbatov, that's an amazing offer for a player in his last year of contract. Don't think it's true though.

I would snap their hands off for that kind of money.. What is that over 18M GBP?

That's a steal for the PL top scorer. Bent cost more than that. Played every game of last season, started 37 and scored less than Berba.

Anything lower is an insult.

i kind of agree with you. berba still got a lot to offer and it is always nice to have 4 or 5 top forwards in the team.

i hope he stays but if someone came in and offer something like £15-20 million, then i got a feeling fergei is going to drive berba to the airport.

I would love for Berba to finish off his career here but, just feel whatever happens a year or two at the most more for him here. In that case if PSG were to offer crazy money for him, then it makes the most sense for the club going forward. Not often you'd get those kind of offers for a 30 year old with a year left on his contract.

Had a text from my sister saying SSN has said or reported we have accepted a bid for Berbatov from PSG. Not got any access to SSN where I am. Any news of this?

Edit: just seen the Mirror thread:lol:. Unlike my sister to text something which is just tabloid speculation. I expect Berba to be a United player and Sneijder to stay at Inter in the next few weeks.

Big fan of his but won't be too sad to see him go. Nor will I be one of the ones on Ferguson's back saying we should never have signed him. He didn't get to where he was from making conservative, safe, signings for barely any money *cough Wenger*.

If true its a lot of cash and fair chunk of what they paid back too.

IF he was willing to sign for PSG I think Fergie would drive him there for that fee to be honest

Am I prat for hoping this goes through so that Welbeck gets more games?

I am a big Berba fan though.

If Welbeck breaks through this year, he will probably do so regardless of whether Berba is here or not. That's a big IF though. Berba won me over last year. I hope he stays for a few more seasons.

Can't see us sell Berba. He's so different to what's out there or what we've got, that it makes no sense to let go of him. Especially when in a good form like now. It's not about the money now. It's about being versatile and flexible when playing any kind of opposition. After all, we'll compete for all trophies as usually and play on average of 20-30 games more than the other teams. And not all of them are Barca-esque you know

Age, potential and future sell on price says it isn't the same for Wellbeck.

Those are also attributes that would make him a compelling player for other clubs to buy. Berba would have knocked in 30 goals if not for Hernandez's unexpected success. We need the creative spark he brings to the table. Young Danny managed a whopping 6 goals in 26 appearances for a mid table side last year. He has not yet proven that he is capable of scoring goals which is why pushing Berba out the back door for Welbeck is cringeworthy fanaticism.

Eh? What did that have to do with my post

I'm not saying push out Berba for Wellbeck, feck no. All I meant was that Berba is 31 in January with just a year left on his contract and next summer he'll have no sell on value, hence why he "could" be under consideration to be sold. The same can't be said of Wellbeck, 2 totally different situations.

Sorry, my last post wasn't really directed at you (despite the quoting). Its more of a general frustration with the idea of selling players who are still contributing. We've lost a lot of experience in the past 6 months, and need to keep the remaining experienced players we have to ensure squad cohesion.

I'm actually a Welbeck fan and have high hopes for the lad. But it will take a Chicharito like explosion for him to break through, which I don't think he is quite ready for given his goal scoring record.

Agreed.

And there's no chance Berba will be sold unless someone like Sneijder comes in.

Personally i wouldn't give to much into his scoring record just yet. He's had a poor time with injuries the past few seasons. So i think that's had an effect. I'm not sure what position he played for at Sunderland, he seemed to drift between wing and the middle. How ever going on the fact iv'e seen him play on the wing more than as a striker, his scoring for Sunderland last season was better than Ronaldos and Nanis first premier league season.

And Obertan and Bebe's as well.

With one year left on his contract, £18m is too good to turn down. Fergie said he was not for sale, but with this kind of money in the table he will go.

Berba was joint top scorer in the league last season yet some want him out of United - I don't understand that.

In an ideal world I'd like him to stay too since he offers us something different to our hectic pacing of games. That being said, if the quoted offer is true then it might not be that tempting to keep him considering that we're already well equipped in attack, and could use the money to strengthen other weak points.

If he goes Welbeck will also naturally get more games, that ought to do him a world of good. Macheda too if we keep him at OT this season.

So moneybags Arabs have bought out PSG and are spending the cash like its going out of fashion - what a bunch of useless idiots.
