Berbatov | Fulham player

I think the lack of first team football is a big issue, surely in another team he would be first choice. It is the type of football being played by the team which is keeping him on the sidelines.

If the Anzhi interest is real then surely we can get more than £20 million? Thats probably peanuts to them.

I don't really want him to go to be honest. I like having him as part of our strike force as he brings something completely different to the other strikers we have.

I dont think it is anything to do with the type of football.

But yes of course the lack of football is the big issue. And so it should be

Berba has stated he loves it at United and everything will be a step down and he's not after the money as if he was he would have signed for City so I call it bullshit.

Berbatov did well to step up last season when Rooney was out of form, but I still think that Hernandez would have been enough, I'm also not so sure that Welbeck would have been loaned out.

But what does the possible consequences of us selling him last summer have to do with the coming January?

Simply just I'd like him to stick around and fight for a place. He's the best 3rd choice striker in the world I'd say. Whilst that's nothing to be proud of, he does give us a lot of depth.

Coming off the bench and only playing bit part he is far from the best 3rd choice in the world

Technically perhaps, but for a real impact no chance

Well that's coming off the bench. He has had a couple good performances off the bench but he didn't necessarily inject life into the team.

I'm mostly talking about when any of our strikers gets injured or is just suffering a loss in form that at least Berba can step in and do a decent job. He's one of the very few with his talent that's actually willing to stick around. Unless SAF says otherwise, I think he should be kept around (providing he still wants to stay).

Guess we'll see in January.

Indeed it would have been quite surprising to let him go in January, unless there was someone coming in.

Hope for Berbas sake we go far in the Carling and FA Cup

Can't take what Fergie said seriously. He's said Veron's not for sale and then sold him moments later.

Perhaps. It is a tricky situation.

I am not always a fan of people leaving at that time of year, in fact I cant think of any non young player doing so from us. Unless of course we did have a top player coming in

So it would be a surprise

Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed Manchester United are likely to activate a clause in Dimitar Berbatov's contract that will keep him at Old Trafford for another year.

Berbatov, a £30.75 million record signing from Spurs, has found his appearances limited this season as both Javier Hernandez and Daniel Welbeck have forced their way into Ferguson's plans on a regular basis.

This has led to speculation Ferguson may look to unload the 30-year-old during the January transfer window, with Russian side Anzhi looking to pounce. However, the United boss insists that will not happen.

Instead it seems Ferguson is more likely to offer the additional year, which United have the unilateral option to do.

''Dimitar is still in my thoughts,'' said Ferguson. ''I have read some things but there is absolutely no reason for me to let him go. He is an outstanding footballer and we will give the extra year.

''It is unfortunate the form of Javier Hernandez over the last year has been outstanding but he (Berbatov) plays a great role and he trains well. He has no complaints. The boy is a great professional and we are happy for him to be here.

''You need a good number of strikers in the modern day. If you look back to 1999, we had four great strikers. They all played their part. That is exactly what will happen today.''

Makes no sense to keep him. Hopefully SAF is just keeping shtum to get higher bids.

I like Berba, but it's pretty clear he has very little future as a United player.

Personally I think it makes no sense to sell him in January, football wise. Money wise might be a different matter though.

If he left we would be left with 3 strikers, why on earth would Sir Alex do that?

Yeah he's not a perfect fit but I can't see many strikers as good as him that would come here and be happy to be 3rd or 4th choice.

Six actually. Rooney, Hernandez, Welbeck, Macheda, Owen, Diouf.

But Randall said that Berbatov had a poor attitude, that Fergie is really an idiot sometimes!

Owen is a crook though, diouf and macheda both need to go out on loan. they have no chance playing in any premiership matches for us.

Yeah because the last 3 are top class..

Owen is fine when fit and probably offers more off the bench than Berbatov, which is a reason why he was on the bench for the CL final. Macheda has scored some goals for us and let's be honest, we don't really need a striker who will most likely start less than ten games a season to be world class.

Yeah but it's more important to have a striker who can regularly play 90 minutes for us in case others get injured. Remember last year? Where was Owen then?

No way will Berbatov start less than 10 games this season.
Owen is still a cracking forward, when fit like.

When is he ever fit though? Berbatov plays more games than him.

With Welbeck injured (again) and Owen injured (again) - we are down to 3 strikers. No matter what you think of Berbatov, selfishly as a United supporter I am thrilled that he is still here and Fergie plans to keep him longer.

As to never making an impact off the bench, didn't he score a winner against Bolton last season off the bench? So much for never. Or wait now will it be never make an impact against a good team.

Rooney - best and most consistent striker
Hernandez - best poacher but not yet hitting the heights of last season
Welbeck - our most talented youth striker but still injury prone - needs time to adjust
Berbatov - well rested and enigmatic
Owen - too often injured
Macheda / Diouf - Carling Cup players.

Fergie has explained the reasons (if they needed explaining) behind keeping him and giving him the extra year and you've still got people saying it makes no sense to keep him.
