Berbatov joined Spurs because they impressed him with their team and with how much they wanted him, while we were dragging our feet. By the time we actually made a proper offer, the Spurs deal was pretty much finalised except for his actual signature. The fact he kept his word with Spurs actually shows his loyalty. I have no doubt he'd happily stay with them if they were competing at the top level, but he feels he's now at the age where he can't wait too much longer to take that next step.
Indeed, it's something that now advantages us. Berbatov joined Spurs because they made him feel wanted and fostered that loyalty (he's one of those players, like Cantona and Ronaldo, who needs a bit of the arm around the shoulder treatment). Now we are the ones in that position, the team who has shown regular interest and have been looking to sign him for seasons. So if it comes down to between ourselves and another team (personally, I believe the other teams being linked is simply Spurs trying to drive up the price) he will probably prefer us.
