He doesnt sound convinced to me. Something annoyingly underwhelming about everything Pep so far and all the posoitivity beaming out of United at the moment is really quite odd.

Yeah it was, to be fair I do not recall him been particularly good, he was solid but did not have a great deal to do.
This. We should take it to the City chat thread rather than here, but I was surprised at how underwhelming the Guardiola unveiling/showcase has been from them. Their marketing team is, usually, much superior to ours, definitely on social media; I expected them to ensure they were plastered across the papers, bombarding the media with articles, signings on a timetable, "Pep's revolution", "Gundogan to be the Stockport Xavi" etc... but instead it's Nolito and Gundogan under the radar. Unless it's what Pep has aked for: no razmatazz to just get on with the job, let results talk etc.
It truely is fascinating stuff, like a text based nature documentary.
It was a friendly where both sides played a bunch of kids. It doesn't show anything.

Pep is a smart guy. I am sure he knows how the British media are especially with foreign managers. I think he prefers the pressure on us and Mourinho.
Look at what happened with Villas Boad at Spurs especially with how much the media turned on him when they started losing a few games. I won't be surprised if he's been advised to act this way.
True, but the counter to that is, this is another step on the CityRoadToBecomingMassiveTM, and you'd think they'd want to leverage having (arguably) the most successful manager in the world?

Pep has never been about the razzmatazz or headlines, that's for your manager. If we were signing pogba for 100m it would bring so much unwanted attention and pressure. Don't get me wrong from a football perspective id love pogba, I think he's class, but pep definitely likes to do things differently.
They are really clinging on to the hope that Real will swoop anytime now and make a deal for Pogba. And some of them still in denial that this is happening and they are able to do jack all about it.

We will know what it takes to get the deal done and it just remains to be seen whether we do it or not.

- Just spent a pleasant afternoon at a rather lovely villa out here. Anyway, source very close to Pogba's agent says he can only see Pogba joining Pep at City still.
- I think we will get him. Pep was never going to arrive alone and a real world class signing was always going to happen and imo, Pogba will be that man.
- He's (Sanches) probably United bound (Mendes) and the fee is absurd, but this kid is immensely talented and 5 years younger than Pogba, it wouldn't surprise me if he's spoken about in similar terms in a few years, though I've only seen him 3 or 4 times so it isn't a particularly informed opinion. City haven't signed Pogba because of a factor of reasons I imagine. I doubt we'd be able to afford Pogba under FFP with our other deals. We looked into him last summer but clearly haven't revisited it this summer.
Where did I say we haven't signed him because we didn't want the pressure or attention. That's a bonus in my eyes. As I said, on footballing teams I really rate him and I like to see him in our starting 11 but you can't deny a £100m deal comes with baggage. But continue twisting my words if it makes you happy.
Maybe he's learned from that mistake?

I honestly believe that if City was the only offer on the table Pogba would just spend another year or two at Juventus and wait for RM. You must realize that players today see themselves as brands and products, being associated with the United brand as opposed to the City brand is just that much more valuable (this is not a slight, but let's be realistic here, we basically have a 20 year headstart).
If the player seriously wanted to go to city I absolutely believe that you would move heaven and earth to get him, both because he is a player of rare quality, but double that since it would literally be spitting in our face, and you know the press would lap it up. Tevez x 100000.
Really? I don't think anyone, even most of my United mates, see Pogba as one of theirs (yours). I mean you signed him from a French club and he was only at United 1 or 2 years wasn't he? Personally I don't think Pogba going to City from Juve would be seen as some sort of betrayal on his part as an ex-red.
I know what you mean re brands but CL football speaks volumes and you don't have that although it's obviously only a matter of time. I don't think it's even a questions of City v United with this one though because I don't think Pogba is really a Pep player, he's much more suited to a Jose team. Equally I think City could attract any player with the Pep factor outside of Madrid and Barca, maybe Bayern if they are German (although it seems Sane is keen on coming to City). At this point in time there's very little difference between City and United in terms of pulling power. I imagine that will change if you get back to the top but City have come along way in a short time. Brand-wise yes, you're still streets ahead but not sure that has much influence on players as you're suggesting. At the end of the day if teams match wages, transfer fees and agent fees, players will decide for footballing reasons (I'd hope/assume).

Pogba was at United for three years, 09 - 12. He called United his 'first family' the other day.
It would feel like a betrayal on some level if he had gone to City. Not a major one but still a betrayal.
He is not seen as one of our own, you are right about that. But you just know that the press would milk the "Pogba rejects United to go to City" angle for all it was worth, and so would City. Also the customary "I chose the biggest club in Manchester" press conference would be guaranteed.
I disagree on the pulling power. We can match \ outbid you when it comes to wages, and we will do so moving forward. It is sort of like a Spanish scenario with Athletico and RM, most players would choose RM, simply because of the history, aura, prestige and marketing, as opposed to Athletico which has every bit as much a mouthwaterhing project going on. I sort of feel like you have missed your golden chance so to say, financially and for wages we couldn't compete with you right after the Sheikh takeover due to our massive debt and stingy owners, now we are on par financially. Also I feel like you haven't had the success you should have had in our barren years, you must realize that we have basically had two clowns in charge for three years that couldn't have done a better job at reducing our chances of winning and diminish our standing in world football if they were hired as City agents. Now I feel that there is a new dawn at Manchester United, the money is there, the manager is there and the whole vibe is different. I honestly believe that we will now attempt the galactico route with £100-200m for each and every transfer window, which we with nearly £600m turnover and a close to 40% yearly increase in turnover (and that is without any form of success on the pitch) are quite able to do.
Exciting times ahead indeed. And I think that the fact that a commerically and income\expenditure driven club is able to compete with you, psg, chelsea and the other sugardaddy clubs are quite a feat, and a testament to a brand building and commercial nouse that could rival that of Apple.
I hope they've got their photoshop ready for the aerial view of the us v them game...... Assuming the traffic being bad.

Not really, Pogba spent 3 years at United, including actually playing in the youth teams. Iheanacho barely featured for City's, he came in as a player pretty much ready to be a young back up to the first team, United had to work with Pogba.
Disparity will be less than Ann Arbor. Chinese came to the party later, plus City have gone after China as a target market. We'll have more, but not like Northern USA where everyone is a United fan.
