Bolton Wanderers v Manchester United

Don't joke about changing your opinion.

*Is not bitter in the slightest*

Anyway, we got any injury issues from the international games? I didn't pay much attention to them if im honest.

 dmode probably thinks you're more than a little odd now RS.

I'm really stumped on this one now that I think about it more.

Do we bring Ferdinand straight back in (over Evans) or save him for Benfica?
Do we start Hernandez since we'll probably play 433 against Benfica anyway?
Do we stick with Cleverley & Anderson if Hernandez starts?
Does Carrick get a look in either way?
Will Berbatov and/or Fletcher get some minutes?

I'm gonna say:

vs. Bolton

de Gea
Smalling Ferdinand Jones Evra
Nani Cleverley Anderson Young
Rooney
Hernandez

Subs: Fletcher, Berbatov, Park/Giggs/Carrick

vs. Benfica

de Gea
Fabio Ferdinand Jones Evra
Carrick
Cleverley Giggs
Park Rooney Young

Subs: Nani, Fletcher, Berbatov/Hernandez

tl;dr

Glad were getting this fixture out of the way early in the season. Got draw written all over it.

(last time I predicted a draw we won)

just noticed 6 matches in 18 days....between Sep 10 and 27th

Whoa, it's no worse than usual really just got to be quick to get back into the swing of things.

Saturday-Wednesday-Sunday-Tuesday-Saturday-Tuesday- -- Saturday

Take out the carling cup tie (which won't involve the first 11) and it would be pretty normal.

First of three consecutive physical games for De Gea, I'm sure he'll do ok. I think Berba might play as his height will be useful to combat their size but I'd prefer us to go with Hernandez.

Any chance Vida will be back?

4-4-2, with Berbatov (he needs a start) / Rooney upfront, and use Chica's pace later on in the match.

de Gea
Smalling Jones Rio Evra
Nani Cleverley Anderson Young
Rooney Berbatov

de Gea
Smalling
Jones
Evans
Evra
Nani
Cleverley
Anderson
Young
Hernandez
Rooney

welbeck out injured, hernandez on international duty with mexico.
Two games with Mexico surely helped him, he needed them.

And he was in Europe, Mexico played in Warsaw and Barcelona.

And he played his last game on Sunday, six days before Bolton - he's fresh.

-----------------De Gea-----------------
Smalling-----Jones-----Evans--------Evra
Nani------Anderson---Cleverley-----Young
-----------Rooney----Chicharito----------

Subs: Lindegaard, Fabio, Carrick, Fletcher, Park, Valencia, Berbatov.

I'd personally put Rio in alongside Jones. The experianced old head would do wonders for the boy and help him out with his positioning.

I'm nowhere near as nervous about these away games this season, our new batch add a new level of pace and more importantly ideas. It's a pleasure to once again be so excited about these trips!

This for me as well.

Need Rio(if fit ofcourse) in there to handle Davies. Evans vs Davies isnt something i'd want if it can be avoided.

People need to stop acting as if this will be the first time that Evans has faced up against a striker who is good in the air. He has faced up against Drogba and did brilliantly against him twice. Last season was a blip.

Still, it's Rio we're talking about, get him back in!

Lindegaard
Smalling, Rio, Evans, Evra
Nani, Cleverley, Anderson, Young
Rooney, Chicha

Have a feeling SAF will play Lindegaard, not necessarily due to the few mistakes so far but, because I think Bolton's game plans will revolve around rattling him some.

Not really seen Jones play on the left of a CB pairing but, Evans has usually played there for us - naturally fits there with Rio.

No chance. Plus what makes you sure Lindegaard wouldn't get rattled under pressure?

KEVIN DAVIES TO GIVE MANCHESTER UNITED A REAL GOING-OVER

Kevin Davies last night warned Manchester United starlets Phil Jones and David De Gea: I’m coming after you tomorrow.

United travel to Bolton looking to make it four straight wins and remain at the top of the Premier League table.

But Sir Alex Ferguson’s men have been told to prepare for some strong-arm tactics from Owen Coyle’s side, with Davies looking to test if Jones, 19, is really up to the physical challenge.

Davies said: “I relish these kind of challenges. Jones is coming on as a player but he’s still young, so

I’ll be looking to give him a going-over. There will be a few crosses flying in.

“I played against him last year. He’s a big strong boy, so it’s the kind of game I’ll look forward to.”

Spanish Under-21 stopper De Gea has dropped a few clangers during a torrid start to his United career, giving Davies further encouragement.

He said: “We fancy anyone. United managed to escape with a draw last season so we know we can match them and we’ve got a decent record here.”

De Gea, 20, yesterday admitted the critics have been right to give him flak but insisted the criticism does not worry him.

“It seems normal to me,” he said. “When you do things wrong, even though it’s a just couple of mistakes, the press has every right to criticise you.

“It’s in my hands to change those criticisms into praise.

“It’s about improving in every training session and in every match. Only that way will I continue to become a key player.

“I’m very happy here because from the first day I’ve felt like just one more within the group.”

He has been a lot more composed from the few games he has played so far. Especially in pre-season. By no chance do you mean it is totally completely impossible like never ever ever happen?

Pre-season games also come with a lot less pressure. Dropping a young keeper who was bought as VDS's successor is not the best thing to do right now. He has been solid enough in his position, he just needs time to fully adjust to the Premier League style, and you can only do that with time.

Everything is possible my friend.

Perhaps. but a fit rio starting should be a no brainer imo.

Guardian:

There is a whisper, only a whisper mind, that despite his rousing defence of David De Dea today and his appeal for him to be given greater proteciton from the ref, Alex Ferguson will drop the young Spaniard for tomorrow's trip to Bolton. Take him out of the Kevin Davies firing line, as it were.

I bet Chicharito will start even though he has been out for a month before the last game, really feel sorry for Berba.
