Bolton Wanderers v Manchester United

Wasn't the Arsenal game supposed to be the turning point for De Gea? I can't believe for a second he'll be dropped for tomorrow, not least because Bolton aren't the physical team they once were.

Pre-season games also come with a lot less pressure. Dropping a young keeper who was bought as VDS's successor is not the best thing to do right now. He has been solid enough in his position, he just needs time to fully adjust to the Premier League style, and you can only do that with time.

Everything is possible my friend.

I agree that it could be a bit damaging to De Gea if he was not played tomorrow but, as I said my feeling just comes from SAF liking to pull surprises. He goes on about De Gea needing protection etc and then you've got Davies et all talking about putting pressure on him, Bolton perhaps working in training particularly on ways to put pressure on him and then SAF changes it all up by putting Lindegaard in.

Lindegaard may also be susceptible to being bombarded/pressured however, just think he has been very good when he has played so far. That said, I'll be leaving De Gea in my fantasy team - bought him cheap and almost certainly will play.

Code:
                De Gea

Smalling Jones Evans Evra

Nani Cleverley Anderson Young

           Rooney Hernandez

SUBS:
Lindegaard, Ferdinand, Fabio, Carrick, Park, Giggs, Berbatov

9-0

-----------------------De Gea--------------------

--Smalling---------Rio-----P. Jones------J.Evans--

--Park J S------Cleverley---Anderson-----R. Giggs-

------------------Rooney---Berbatov---------------

I think Fergie usually tinkers after internationals & Champs League away games.

--De Gea (Fergie needs him to learn the EPL game and such lessons are best if our bearded Spaniard plays and survives after getting elbowed/shoved/nudged/slapped a few times against Davies)
--Back 4 (I have chosen height and size against big, burly Bolton forwards (Davies, Elmander, Klasnic)
- Cleverley & Ando pairing remains
- Wingers are rotated based on freshest legs. Young & Nani played 2 internationals and will probably be better off for midweek Champions League game. Park & Giggs, who retired from S.Korea and Wales, prob gets the nod, for their energy and experience for a potentially difficult away fixture.
- Rooney starts because he is Rooney
- Berbs need games and his height could also prove helpful to defend against Bolton setpieces.

Subs: Lindegaard, Evra, Nani, Young, Hernandez, Carrick, Fabio
We can always bring on Young, Nani & Hernandez if we are chasing the game. Prediction: 1-3. Rooney hattrick

- I cant see Elmander troubling us as he now plays for Galatasaray.

- I cant remember the last time Giggs played on the wing for us. It'd be Valencia to come in surely if we were looking to rest Nani and Young.

-Also with 4 centre halfs in that lineup i dont think we need to play berba just cos he's tall. Besides, what defending does he do in his own box really. Cahill, Davies and Knight can be matched up with Smalling, Rio and Jones/Evans.

Our style of play so far this season and with our form going into the game I'd expect us to outscore any team in the league if both teams will be going at it.

I think Valencia will get a run in this weekend so me team will be:
..............................De Gea......................................

Smalling.......Jones...............Evans...............Evra.............

Valencia..............Fletcher..............Ando...........Young

.....................................Nani..............................

....................................Roon.................................

Maybe not my preferred selection and remembering the boos from me previous team selections certainly not many of yours but still feel this might be our starting 11. Come to think about it the only change I´d make is getting Rio in but Evans has been really good and deserves his place so no changes then. BOOOOO all you like my friends;) ( if at home Clev instead of Fletch)

Robbo on Countdown to Kickoff, guess he's not in as much trouble as some thought.

Also that Helen McConnell. yum.

Davies vs DDG is not going to be fun :nervous:

Bolton will make sure they elbow/foul DDG as much as possible.

And so De Gea is guaranteed to start!!!

Daily Fail

Sir Alex Ferguson is considering leaving goalkeeper David de Gea out of Saturday evening's Barclays Premier League game at Bolton.
Manchester United manager Ferguson has been publicly supportive of the 20-year-old Spaniard since he arrived at Old Trafford and is firm in his belief that De Gea will go on to be the club's No 1 goalkeeper for the next decade.

But after a couple of high-profile mistakes in his first few games for United, Ferguson spent much of Friday wondering whether to replace De Gea with Denmark keeper Anders Lindegaard at the Reebok Stadium.

Ferguson is concerned about the physical threat carried by Owen Coyle's Bolton side and thinks that De Gea may benefit from a day out of the spotlight ahead of United's game in Lisbon in the Champions League on Wednesday.
However, leaving De Gea out now would represent a blow to the former Atletico Madrid man and Ferguson was wondering what effect it may have on his confidence.

Way to cover their asses there, though. fecking cnuts.

"...Ferguson spent much of Friday wondering whether to replace De Gea with Denmark keeper Anders Lindegaard at the Reebok Stadium."

How the feck does this wanker Ian Ladyman KNOW SAF was wondering?

I think davies's comments might just benefit us tbh. The intense speculation would have been seen by the ref for the game. there's no way to miss it in the media. that would mean he'd be paying more attention to fouls on the GK than usual. looking out for it in a way. might just be good for us i feel. there should be more FKs in our favor today than normal.

Sorry if this has already been mentioned, but SAF said in his press conference:

Q. with Rio being fresh, no England, getting him back?

Yeah, you're right. It is a difficult one. None of that back four deserve to be left out. That is the great thing about football. You pick yourself with performances like they have been doing, and I don't anticipate any real changes tomorrow."

Sounds like it will be Evans and Jones again, no Rio.

The reliable ones like Guardian and Telegraph are also reporting that Lindegaard is set to debut today.

My team for today
Lindegaard
Smalling-Jones-Evans-Evra
Nani-Ando-Carrick-Young
Rooney-Hernandez

We won't drop De Gea, why would we? He had 3 shaky games and then he's solid against Arsenal and THEN we drop him?

I'm also struggling to see why would Fergie would drop De Gea, but all the newspapers are reporting this.

Not going to drop David, come on. He needs every game out there even if they are tough.

I wouldn't be surprised if we gave lindegaard a start today. Fergie said that De Gea wouldn't start as first choice but he gave him games early on as he does with any other signing to give them a taste. The problem was that he dropped a couple of clangers and the media got on his back. Fergie has let him play through the worst of it and now that De Gea can be content with his last couple of games, he might see this as the ideal time to give lindegaard his turn.

I don't see why he would today when there's the opportunity to play Lindegaard against Benfica.

Eh... De Gea has to learn to face the big burly teams, what use is dropping him every time? Nonsense. He'll play.

Good to have proper football back.Bolton not playing well of late but i can see them raising there game but it still won't be enough. 1-3.

De Gea will play I think. Fergie's just trying to make his point that De Gea needs protection.

.................De Gea....................
Smalling.....Jones...Rio............Evra
Valencia..Anderson..Cleverly..Young
..........Rooney..Chicharito............

I think De Gea will start, but Davies is going to try to barge into him at every opportunity. This is one of the times when I feel thankful for Smalling being able to play as right back; That'll hopefully strengthen us aerially. Would've been good to have Vidic for this one though :(

Also, Evra is going to have to pick up his defensive game. I wouldn't be surprised if Davies targeted him and not Jones, who does wear expression at times on the field like he'd like to knock in a few teeth :)

De Gea needs to regain confidence, not have it completely shattered by being sat on the bench after two bad games.

If we're going to drop DeGea purely because we're up against the might of Kevin Davies then we may as well give up now!
