Clearly he is a big advocate of leaving the EU but he seems to have fallen into the trap of blaming the EU for refusing to reopen the WA negotiations.
He believes that German car manufacturers should lobby the EU to prevent a no deal exit.
I can understand that the UK is a major importer of German cars.
But this whole episode has gone way beyond logic.
It is now all about principles and dare I say dogma.
There will be no winners out of this. Only losers. And I am pretty sure that it will be the UK who will come out of this significantly worse off.

See, that’s where you’re wrong. It’s not now that this is about dogma and beyond logic. It’s always been that way. This is rooted in the deep mistrust of conservative, nationalist politicians towards a supranational organisation which they hated from the start.

The arguments about “gaining our freedom” from the “undemocratic” EU and being much better off on our own, with some fake facts sprinkled on top? Yeah, those never coincided with reality.

I do understand what you are saying. I was trying to refer to the current situation between the two sides UK and EU.
You are quite right. British politics has always been rooted in tradition and dogma. And the result has been the two party system.
In truth, the British electorate shuns away from far left and far right and has supported centrist policies.
They also crave for strong leadership albeit more nowadays for a populist leader which we now have.
 
The Queen would not get involved - but there is one group that has been keeping their powder very dry and would be seen to act as a proxy for the Queen in a constitutional crisis - the House of Lords. There is a massive pro-remain lobby in the House of Lords and the Tories in there are much more old school one nation tories.

There have been rumours that the House of Lords are prepared to do some interesting legislative hoopla to stop Brexit happening unless the house of commons votes for it in a legitimate way. If Boris tries any shady stuff then given the paralysis in the commons and the discord in both the tories and Labour Party, I can see the house of Lords calling for a government of national unity and them agreeing to form a cross party government devoid of the ideological nutters on both sides.

I believe it would revoke article 50 to stop the brexit countdown but establish a "citizens council" to look at EU deal / brexit scenarios and report back in ohhhh five years or so time. This was a deal that Europe offered a long time ago and would happily offer again. Brexit would finally be back where it belongs, a minor footnote in the news alongside fishing policy and diplomatic protocols rather than the front page obsession of a lunatic fringe.

The national unity government would also call for stricter rules on party funding and electoral spending, mandatory reform of internal party disciplinary policies with referrals to an independent review panels. It would be time to sweep out the stables in the major parties and stop the infiltration of zealots and fanatics on all sides.

The house of commons has already voted for it in a legitimate way, the European Withdrawal Act of 2018, which the house of lords debated and agreed.

It's not him who is serious.
It is the elected politicians who will not stand aside while the PM tries to ignore the parliamentary powers and decisions.
The fact that he is the PM does not give him special powers to do whatever pleases him.
He is being very badly advised by the way and should listen to those who understand the constitutional rules.

Edit: I think it would be ridiculous, if not inconcievable, for Boris to hang on if backbenchers could form an alternative gov't once he had lost a vonc. What are the future prospects of a PM who basically squats to hang on to power? So I think he would probably walk in that scenario.

He might hang, though, if there is no alternative gov't formed after losing the vonc.

It maybe ridiculous, but not inconceivable. Boris would attempt a series of delay tactics on the basis of calling a GE soon.... but that would be after Brexit had taken place, by default.

Not surprised by this - in my view the UK in it's current state is soon to be finished - quite likely to break up and with it the Parliament will look very different. The narrative that it's Parliament that is stopping the people's beloved hard brexit is only going to grow this kind of thinking - we are slowly moving to an American model - NHS will be privatised, etc. Just wait - we will all be buying guns next!
 
There's is a large group of Brits that look at America and say, "yeah we'll have some of that".
 
Lads, the interrail thing has nothing to do with brexit or the UK govt. It's a disagreement between business bodies.

Well, I believe that brexit will have (and is having) negative impact on the UK economy, but to be fair, the global economy is slowing down
