Chelsea vs Manchester United

Carol Ancelotti on our game against Liverpool, our weakness and what he wants to do when they play us

It was a good lesson for us because Manchester can suffer when there's pressure on their midfielders. But I don't want to play against other team's weaknesses. We want to put our own qualities on the pitch.'

Their strength is that weakness regardless, play Anderson and play a 4-3-3 and it will be it should be negated in part

We should really take it to Chelsea whiles remaining compact. This is a game I wish SAF will not be too concern with experience and leave Giggs and Scholes on the bench and bring them in as impact players rather than starting them
Here is what I think will do the job.

Anderson and Valencia are not necessarily wingers, but they can take the ball wide if they need to in the formation above. Fletcher will be helping O'Shea whiles covering the CB's as well, Carrick will do a similar thing on the the other side.
Valencia will be more central than anything else, and it will be lovely if Anderson is relieve of defensive duties in this game and given license to just attack. Rooney and Berbatov should stay on the shoulders of Terry and who ever pairs with him.

Can someone point any weakness in here for me?

Honestly I know this is a bit ambitious but I would play anderson behind the strikers if of 4-3-1-2 reckon that is where he could shine, doubt it happens

Some sublime individual brilliance from Berbatov to win it.

Chelsea is very strong in the middle of the park. With a diamond of, for example, Mikel, Essien, Ballack and Lampard they will dominate the midfield if we play a 4-4-2-formation with Valencia and Giggs/Nani. With two good offensive fullbacks like Cole and Bosingwa they have wide and the Drogba - Anelka partnership will occupy our whole definsive line and sometimes even Carrick.

Against Liverpool we played without tempo and we were pedestrian. We had four players who wasn't really involved in the game and our central midfield had no time to deliver quality. Against Arsenal (in the CL-SF) the Fletcher -Carrick - Ando partnership owned the midfield. We were all over and Fabregas had no time to create anything spectacular. When Adebayor and van Persie were without suply Arsenal were toothless.

To have a good chance against Chelsea we need to go back to the Fletch - Ca -Ando partnership, with Giggs in free roll in front of them. We need the Giggs -Berba -Rooney triangle to be such a threat that this will prevent Cole and Bosingwa to bomb forward like they use to do.

It's obvious that Chelsea will try to play in the air against Evra. Another threat will be to put pressure against JOS, who sometimes can be a bit slow, or try to play inside a inmobile and insecure Vidic. To prevent this we need to be compact and put pressure against their midfielders so we can disrupt their rythm and flow. If Fletcher has a good day he's intesive energy can be the key factor for us to winn this battle. If we can keep possesion for longer periods we can slowly take the energy out of their gameplan and force them to play long balls against Drogba, who will better suit Vidic.

As usual it will be individual moments who will decide the result, but if the we can bring our forwards more in to the game the odds will be better.

Starting XI: -------- Van Der Sar ----------------------
Brown ------- Vidic ---------------- Evans -------- Evra
----------------------- Fletcher -----------------------
------ Carrick ---------- Giggs ----------- Anderson ----
-------------------------------------------------------
-------------Rooney -------------- Berbatov -----------

Bench: Foster, O`Shea, Fabio, Scholes, Valencia, Obertan, Owen

Evra/Nani (our left wing) tore them apart in the community shield. Bosingwa is weak defensively, we should target that. Even Essien played on that side and he couldn't do much. They didn't dominate that game with all their central midfielders. I know you'll say its "pre season" but the same thing happened last season with our left wing. Nani didn't play then, but you get my point.

feck all this draw talk. We could really do with the win. If Chelsea really do have a stronger squad than we do, as so many are claiming, then remaining 2 points behind them is not a position we can be happy to be in. A win tomorrow and we're in the driving seat.

Jacob's prediction:

Line-up:

------------------------VDS------------------------
----O'Shea-----Vidic--------Evans-----Evra------
----------------------Carrick-----------------------
-------------Fletcher-----------Anderson----------
----Rooney--------------------------------Giggs---
---------------------Berbatov----------------------

Score: Chelsea 2 - 1 Manchester United

I would go with that lineup.

if we go with one man up, who would you guys choose rooney or berbatov.

Isn't Bosingwa injured, we need to get valencia involved in the game

Im actually not nervous at all about this one maybe because everyones written us off and expects us to lose comfortably (heavily in some cases) so really there is no pressure whatsoever on us and i hope thats the attitude we take into the match....nothing to lose and everything to gain....in contrast to the Liverpool match where i was a nervous wreck as we were expected to win and it just had that inevitable feel of The dippers raising their game and ending their losing streak..No such worries ahead of this one.

I think it will end as a draw myself.

VDS

Oshea - Evans - Vidic - Evra

Fletcher - Carrick - Ando

Rooney - Giggs

Berba

Chelsea have a very strong and physical central line and we need to match them both in numbers and player by player. I don't think, especially in the beginning of the game, that we can afford to become short in that area.

I also think that Giggs can do more damage with his intellegent movements and his eye for killer pass than speed against Cole.

The only player I can think of who's not going to fit in this game is Berbatov. We need a direct sort of play in the final third to threaten them and Berba can sometimes be to slow and static. But without Berba we loose someone who can calm things down and give us time to move our positions forward. It's a delicat choice.

I personally go for Giggs just behind Rooney and Berba. But if that doesn't work Valencia is propably our second best option.

Starting Fletcher and Anderson (possibly with Carrick) in midfield is the key, Scholes will get overrun like at anfield..

Giggs should come on as a sub in 65th minute.

Fletcher - Carrick - Ando

Valencia - Rooney - Nani

We'll win, 3-0

Win: fecking great
Draw: Not to bad
Lose: We´ll support you evermore

I think United should play Wes Brown at right back to neutralise A Cole's
overlapping run. With Brown, Vidic Evans and Evra, it is one of the last seasons selection that went on a run of record clean sheets.
If O'shea will be seleted, he should be in midfield so that it will be so overcrowded that their mid-fielders cannot perform.
United should not be imtimidated by them and match them with power or robustness and leave out players who will not go in during 50-50 situation.

only weakness i see is that if you play narrow you're giving cole and boswinga the opportunity to get forward

personally i would play 4-3-3

same midfield as you but valencia and giggs wide and rooney up top on his own

think chelsea are going to squeeze the space and berbatov won't get the time he needs - he can be brought on as the game slows down later on

this will be effective as valencia and giggs have great stamina and will get up and down the line defensively and offensively all match

anderson, fletcher and carrick in midfield please

at the back of my mind (and i know chelsea are playing a different system) i keep thinking of how well the fletcher/giggs combo did last season

I'm fairly certain we wont play a straight forward 4-4-2. The reason primarily being that the diamond formation that chelsea currently employ is very narrow and as such would over run any combinations of 2 in our midfield. We would in all probability have one up top, with 2 central midfielders and one protecting the back four. Ideally the one protecting would have been Owen Hargreaves. But since we don't have that luxury i'd have Fletcher or Carrick there. Fletcher being the first choice. The other two of the midfield would be Giggs(Certainly starting tonight) and Anderson/Fletcher (Depending on who's chosen to protect the back four).

One thing is for certain though , atleast i'd like to think so, we'll definitely have both Giggs and Fletcher in the team starting. Its a toss up between Anderson and Carrick for the other slot. Personally, I'd have Anderson there for his powerful shielding of the ball.

If berbatov is available he'd be up top by himself. With Rooney on the left wing and Valencia on the right. The back five chooses itself.

I remember Fergie being quoted as saying Rooney would never play wide left again. But, For some reason i feel this would be the team.

I'm confident for some reason and it's a good thing, because I wasn't when we played Liverpool.

They are playing well at the moment, but they are same old Chelsea for me, a very well drilled footballing machine. If we disrupt their flow we can beat them.

Rooney AND Berbatov need to have a great game for us to get something out of this
