Chelsea vs Manchester United

Unbelievable save from Lazio keeper from a Flamini rocket volley.

Im nervous about this one.

But I believe in this team and their ability to rise to the occasion. We have put out a strong squad and hopefully they will show enough of an attacking threat today. We need to be solid across the team and win that midfield battle.

Cmon United!

Brown-Evans will need to play out of their skins to deal with Drogba and anelka, especially drogba aerially. I think we'll definitely leak a goal or two, so I'm not too confident about having Rooney up top by himself. Lets hope SAF is proven right.

Yeh, me too.

Vidic not playing could be huge - Evans will have a BIG task ahead of him.

To be honest its not that huge. As much as I love Vidic, he has just come back from injury and their strikers are pacy twats.

With the exception of our CBs having more games under their belt [which wouldn't have been improved whomever was selected] this is probably one of if not the most convincing XIs we've gone with all season, and all the more so with the task in mind.

COME ON!!

Richard Keys already suggesting our CB's aren't up to the task, come on lads show the feckin media up.

Not really, just based on SAF's pregame talk, I have a feeling Carrick will almost be like a CB today, so we will not be as wide as the formation may look

We might be in this form during the game 5-3-1-1

O'Shea, Brown, Evans, Carrick, Evra

Valencia, Fletcher, Anderson
Giggs
Rooney

Glad we have the midfield chosen given our defence. Normally id be saying for 442 but with Berba out and with Rio/Vida not starting (and obviously not on form) the extra protection will be good. Rooney will probably be isolated and frustrated (and I cant believe im saying this) but ill take a draw.

if we do that we will get walked carrick can't tackle, we need to take the game to them here, defending is what they want us to do, i would rather lose 5-0 taking the game to them than lose 1-0 playing defensive

I don't think a loss will 'kill' us, and a win wouldn't 'kill' them ... I just wanna keep the momentum, and I'm hoping for a fair game without this seasons customary refereeing fcukups. Fingers and toes crossed...

Ah I don't think he'll go that negative.

It'll probably be more like this...

VDS
O Shea Brown Evans Evra
Fletcher Anderson
Carrick
Valencia ------- Giggs
Rooney

You're an idiot.

From the BBC.

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson: "What will our shape be? Ah, that's a secret! I'll say this, though, in games of this magnitude you have to make sure all the players who start are fit and raring to go. Vidic has had a few days training but you have to think, will he get through 90 minutes? We have to pay respect to Chelsea's shape and philosophy and we're well aware of the complications if you become too open against that type of midfield. We don't want Chelsea going five points clear - that would be a formidable lead - while if we win, we go a point clear at the top of the table, that's the incentive."

I doubt it. Carrick will play as the middle of the 3 in midfield in front of the centrebacks. It's a 4-3-3 attacking, falling into a 4-5-1 defensively.

It will be interesting to see where Valencia plays, whether he stays wide, or tries to find the space between Cole and the left centre back that Park exploited in the first half of the Charity Shield.
