They don’t have a ‘very good chance’ now. They are the third favorites behind Bayern and Real, and maybe slightly ahead of Roma.
If they reach the final, whoever they play there will be huge favorites against Liverpool.
2005 was anomaly. 9 times out of 10 they lose that final. It won’t happen again like it didn’t happen in 2007 either.
I think getting to the Champions league semi-finals (at least) makes a mockery of this 'have to win something'. Even if we go out to Roma (and personally I would've preferred Real or Bayern) I would rather this than winning the League cup.
Stylistically an Italian side is a far worse match up for Liverpool than Bayern Munich/Real Madrid.

To be fair, Man City were huge favourites to beat us over two legs. I actually think Real or Barca would suit us more than Roma.

It’s also the dream draw for Roma.
Roma are obviously a good team but at this stage of the competition this is pretty much as good as it gets for Liverpool. If they progress to the final anything can happen in a one-off game with so much at stake. The only thing giving me comfort is Klopp's abysmal record in finals.

I know which I'd prefer. Champions league semi's puts you on the map. It also helps attract players, which the league cup doesn't. I don't think there's many sides that could knock out Man City 5-1 over two legs.

Bayern vs Real is going to be awesome, there's a healthy rivalry going on between them lately.
The chances are Liverpool don't win this, but why is a win for them feeling so fecking likely just at the moment?
They need to watch our PL match and City's CL games against them on repeat with 'do this, don't do this' pasted above the respective performances.

When has that ever been the case? A player specifically joined a club because they finished in the CL semis.
It's still a trophy vs no trophy.
I think we all know that it bodes well (in most cases) to reach the latter stages of the CL. But at the end of the day, supporters want their team to lift trophies.

It further confirms our upwards trajectory, and there have been players who rejected us in the past (Willian comes to mind) because we couldn't offer CL football.

I'd much rather have a CL semi-final against Roma coming up than a League Cup trophy, and I guess a lot of us would agree with that.
Torres largely joined because Liverpool are a big club and there was a Spanish contingent already at the club. You won the trophy which I agree has an impact, it had nothing to do with being in the semis.
Again that nothing to do with being in the CL semis as you will qualify for CL next season anyway. I suspect Willian also had other reasons to choose Chelsea over Liverpool.
Then you don't know what you're talking about. Not one single Liverpool supporter I know, would trade the CL semi-final, for the League cup. To suggest otherwise is frankly ridiculous.
If we won the league cup, the argument would just become “lol all you’ve won is 2 league cups in 12 years” instead.

But why bring league cup into this? This is a CL semi final which Liverpool are widely expected to progress (I personally think you guys have a great chance of winning the whole thing). I don't understand why you're so passionate about comparing it to a league cup, as if Roma is the end of the road.
Roma is the best possible draw, but if you guys do go out of the Semis, then obviously you haven't a trophy, since a semi final isn't a trophy. But CL semi final is more prestigious than a league cup, that is certainly true.
But be optimistic man, what the hell.
@Jamie L You'd won under the same manager and generally same group of players couple of years prior which was still fresh in the memory.
Monaco were also in the semis last year, but they are largely considered a selling club at the moment.
Roma are capable of beating Liverpool. They beat Chelsea earlier this season and obviously knocked out Barca. But it will be tough. This is the best draw Liverpool could have hoped for and gives them a golden opportunity to reach the final. Hope the pressure of being favorites in this tie gets to them.
