Another goal for the machine! His goal record is just ridiculous and starts the make the likes of Shearer and Henry look pretty darn average really. How many will this guy finish with?

A goal machine is right.
And can you believe, there were people in the Summer transfer thread, who said that they did not want him at MUFC, as he was past his best.
IMO, had we bought this guy in the Summer, we'd be favourites for the title.
In any case, he is a top player of the highest quality, who is maintaining his goal scoring instinct.

Hang on did I miss that? People said they wouldn't have wanted him back at the club? He's a goal machine, he's proven in England and he's now a number 9 which is exactly what we need... OK I know we have Martial but that's more for the future plus imagine Martial and Ronaldo swapping positions constantly.

Recently watched a video of all his Real Madrid goals with commentary, man he is an absolute animal in front of goal. Sometimes you need to rewatch a players highlights in order to realise again how absurdly good they are. Yes, he has transformed into a pure poacher but he is so damn good at it.

To be fair to them, Ronaldo profits from playing with Real Madrid who get at least 3/4 golden chances every match and it's always Ronaldo at the end of them because of his poacher-role. But still, an insane goal record it remains.

So he didn't have a great goal record for us then? Even considering the fact that when he moved to us he was 17 and far from a finished article? In fact it took 2/3 years to get anywhere near the player we see today. He scored 42 goals for us in one season so it's not down to the fact he plays for Real Madrid.

Don't be shy to share the video :)

Assists aren't proof of being creative.
There are more creative players within his own team, who don't get assists due to not being right near the opposition's goal every game.

Ever single player on that list is hugely creative. Infact the main function of all those other players is all focused on creating chances.

We'll have to agree to disagree on Ronaldo being 'hugely creative'.
In fact, he doesn't even show huge creativity in his own goal scoring. Hence a ridiculously high percentage of his goals last season were scored with one touch.

He gets so many assists through being the end target of so many moves (many of them being counter-attacks). So he gets a good number of assists via rebounded shots and simple sideways passes.
In moves where Ronaldo makes a simple pass, the real creativity has often come from the guy(s) who gave him the ball right near the goal.

No one can take away that the statistics show he assists a lot. But, once again, I don't believe this makes him creative.

Which one of those players on that list has another objection other than being "creative"?

Ronaldo is in a team with players like Isco, Benzema, Bale, James yet still had more assists than all of them.

How can you say he isnt creative when he has more assists than every player in europe other than 3 players.

On a logical level the only logical reason why Ronaldo would have so many assists is because he is creative.

Ronaldo is also much older than guys like Isco, Bale and James, hence more total assists.

Does it really matter though? James was 17 in 2008. Isco was 16. Bale was 19.

Makes Özil's stats even more impressive as he just started to play at the top in 2010 and was also very young in 2008.

He is born October 1988 - he was 20 most of the first season. In Werder's free scoring but defensively very open system. Özil's first professional season with 19 Bundesliga matches was in 2006/07.

We're going in circles now. We'll have to agree to disagree. You obviously believe that assists hold more weight than I believe they do.
I've stated why I believe Ronaldo has so many assists despite not being ultra-creative. It's largely for the same reason the majority of his goals are with one touch (I think it was a good 70% last season).

Bale, James, and Isco are irrelevant. They were extremely young in 2008/09/10. And they only joined Madrid recently.

And as for 'objectives' - Ronaldo's is to score goals and finish moves. Once again I'll point to his ridiculously high percentage of one-touch goals last season.

I believe that the other guys in the list are very creative (except for Mata). I just don't think Ronaldo is.

One touch finish is what every striker should be scoring from. The goal doesn't have to be beautiful to win a game.

Ironically, your two sentences contradict each other.

Ronaldo being the typical cnut that he is: amIdoingthisright?

Roughfuly translated: "I dont mind that other may hate me, that motivates me. When i play there are always those that are against me but that's good. It has all to do with the positive things the "haters" bring me. I need an enemy. It's all part of this. They start shouting when i touch the ball. It was already like that when i was 18 or 19 and that's no problem for me. It ends up being motivation".

I'm not the most humble person in the world, i admit it. I'm not fake but i'm also humble in the sense that i like to learn. I like to learn other sports, with the best. To see what are they doing. You can improve here and there. And i find that interesting. I'm like that, humble, i like to learn".

About his son: "I would like him to follow my footsteps, to be a forward and score many goals but he prefers goalkeeping. He changed me a lot. I dreamt of having a son since i was 25 and he really changed my way of thinking. He always supports me and he's always smiling.

It's easy to be spoiled when you have a big bed to sleep in, yogurts and fruit and fast cars in the garage. One of these days he asked me for an iphone6 but i told him no. He said it was to call me and i said for him to use his grandmother's phone. You cant control everything but education is the greatest gift you can give. Every Sunday we break the routine and go out for burguers and Coca Cola. The balance is important.

When i finish my career, in 4 or 5 years i plan to live like a king with my family and friends".

Complaining about most of Ronaldo's goals being one touch finishes when we've got Rooney up front seems a bit silly.

I don't know if you actually read the posts properly before posting, but nobody was 'complaining' about Ronaldo's one-touch goals.
The discussion was about Ronaldo being creative due to his assists record. And Rooney's not even relevant.

I brought up the one-touch goals percentages to show that he's not even that creative in scoring his own goals. And much like his goalscoring, many (most?) of his assists come from being played through inside the box, often on the break. Not through hugely creative play.

Obviously he hasn't always scored quite so many (80%) with one-touch every single season, but still a good chunk of his goals have been one-touch for years.
And they're great. They obviously work well for him, and have served to make him the second best player in the world over the last 6/7 years, and possibly a top ten player of all time.

Just watched a youtube video of his dribbling skills. I feel his dribbling often gets underrated on here. By reading this thread you'd think he's only a prolific goal scorer.

Wait are you joking about him sounding like a cnut. He sounds like just a genuine guy. Also clear that his kid changed him.
Proper cnut. Won't even get his kid a new iPhone. Cheap bastard.

Joking aside, I think it's obvious that Ronaldo at the bottom of it all is a genuinely good guy. He does more than his share of charity work and seems like a good person outside of football, but his competitive nature and constant desire to be the best at everything he does makes him come off as a bit of a cock sometimes. Not that I don't have a lot of understanding for that. My head would be the size of a hot air balloon if I had as much going for me as Ronaldo does.

It's his demeanour on the pitch that gets to me the most. I just can't stand watching him waving his arms annoyed at team-mates, sometimes 10 minutes into the match. It was painful to see in the last world cup. Thing is he's so consistent at it that I'm positive it doesn't really impact team performance or mood, they're all used to it by now and just ignore it.

His cockiness outside the pitch is actually funny, as he seems incredibly naive and "azeiteiro" (chav?).

I've always felt "one-touch" football is the best football out there as it required more technique to get it done and its also hardest to defend against.

Aye. I don't mind Ronaldo's cockyness (pun lol) at all, it's a part of what makes him a compelling character. For those who can't stand Ronaldo's arrogance, I suggest take a look at the conduct of the likes of Memphis - someone who has done jack shit in the game.

The thing I don't mind about Ronaldo's cockiness and arrogance is the fact that at least he doesn't hide it.

Yeah he's a massive bellend on the pitch but at least you know he's not trying to be something else to appease people.

What conduct are you talking about?
