Big games aren't what they used to be. Fact is the big games used to be a great measuring stick cause these games were tight and close as the teams weren't all that far in quality. Right now, Madrid, Barca, Bayern are far ahead. When another team enters the contest of elite european club teams they get dismantled rather quickly.

Ronaldo's way of getting it done(tap ins, one on ones and taking ridiculous number of ridiculous shots) is one of the reasons he's done nothing of note in his international career. Top 5 player all time? I'd say he's not top 5 in the past 25 years even.
That is a really interesting point about the difference between big games now and before. I don't think Bayern and Real belong to that category however. Barcelona certainly made big games different to what they used in that they pretty much make everyone they play against play like a clear underdog. Bayern and to a less extent Real Madrid have been the next best teams but they never reached that level of absolute dominance. Maybe you can make a case for Bayern's CL run in 2013 but still not quite.

His finishing was really off yesterday. 14 shots and not a single goal.

Ah, now I see why he is labeled a big game bottler. There aren't any big games left for him to play in.

It is a bit cringey, but it's clearly just part of a sponsorship deal.

Yeah, I know, but it's still funny considering it's Real Madrid, they'll make everything to make Ronaldo feel better.

But it's only Malmö!

"My future? I am with Real Madrid and I'm happy. But in football you never know."

Said after tonight's match.

Surpassed Raúl as Real Madrid's all time top scorer today. 324 goals since 2009. Raúl scored 323 1994-2010.

It's impressive enough when you read that, but the really impressive stat is when you look at how many games each of them took to get to that tally.

Absolutely. Look at this way... 324 goals in 6 years is 54 per year. If he played for Real Madrid for the same period of time that Raul did, he'd have scored 864 goals  I mean alright I know it's not as simple as that, but it's still damn incredible.

Whatever you might think of him his record for Real is absolutely out of this world. More goals than games.

Has any other player ever managed that?

Very few in football history, I think only the likes of Eusebio and Pele.

Other than the obvious, Franz Binder scored 267 in 242 for Rapid Wien between 1930 and 1949. Josef Bican scored 607 in 406 between 1928 and 1955 for multiple clubs - Quite amazing, really. Muller wasn't far away from career parity at club level, but he surpassed it at international level (68 goals in 62 games).

Jimmy McGrory deserves a mention too alongside the ones touched upon above.

Another goal for the machine! His goal record is just ridiculous and starts the make the likes of Shearer and Henry look pretty darn average really. How many will this guy finish with?
