What conduct are you talking about?

What an asshole, right? Bet he even listens to hip-hop music.

Sigh.

Don't want to create a big discussion around Memphis' questionable warderobe. However, you did miss my point. The point was that Ronaldo is perceived arrogant in any way, right? That is justifyable a little bit since he is one of the greatest footballers of all time.
When you look at Memphis' outfit etc, it would be fair to say that he can be perceived as arrogant in the same vein as Ronaldo, right? Apart from the fact that he can't back it up yet - which is why it is a bit silly. Which is why I asked Ronaldo's detractors to look at others (who have achieved jack shit yet). That was all.

I would imagine that those who are old school would like to see players who are yet to become "stars" remain a little bit less extravagant until they have made it.

Just watched a youtube video of his dribbling skills. I feel his dribbling often gets underrated on here. By reading this thread you'd think he's only a prolific goal scorer.
That was then. He can't beat his man on the dribble consistently anymore.

Nobody has ever decided Ronaldo is arrogant based on the clothes he wears. Not from what I've seen here anyway. His reputation is based on what he says and does. I've yet to see Memphis say or do anything that comes across as arrogant. He's got a different sense of style to me (and you?) but liking to wear trendy clothes is by no means a sign of arrogance.

I hate it when people criticise someone's clothes ffs. Don't they have anything better to say?

Most of the Dutch gys that I watch some of the games with have this impression of him - that his arrogance is actually a problem. Haven't seen it myself necessarily, but it's a pretty common opinion over here.

To be honest from what I can recall of the few times he's spoken to the media over here he's come across as fairly humble and understanding of the hard work he needs to put in to achieve anything of note here.

I've seen some former Dutch footballers call him arrogant in the press despite apparently not actually knowing him personally. I've seen people comment on the clothes he wears as some sort of justification for calling him arrogant. When he arrived here I didn't see many calling him arrogant. I saw plenty praising his strength of character and determination considering his apparent tough upbringing.

Now that he's not playing very well it seems people can't wait to stick the boot in, which is grossly unfair.

or - maybe unlike when he first came here, we've actually seen him play for the club on numerous occasions and it's pretty clear his attitude on the pitch hasn't been the best at times.

Can you give some examples of that (genuinely, my memory is shite)? I can't recall much myself that would indicate an attitude/arrogance problem - just him seemingly struggling with the pressure and demands of this league and team.

Specific examples of his attitude on the pitch? How on earth could I do that exactly? "Well at 61 minutes you can clearly see he's looking a bit laid back when walking around"?

From watching (almost) every game he's played in for us he has most definitely looked overly cocky on the pitch and times, and when things aren't going his way (which was quite a lot) he seems to get frustrated and go into his shell instead of trying to rise up to the challenge (the absolute opposite of a 21-22 year old Ronaldo). Obviously these are all things that will improve with age but so far he's been very frustrating to watch.

Alright alright sarcypants fair points.

I've yet to see Memphis say or do anything that comes across as arrogant.

He is arrogant on the pitch all the time. Similar to Baloteli he takes absurd shots, no better exemplified in the League Cup, 4 on 2 on the break for us and he hits a 25 yard shot straight at the keeper. That cost us the game. Criminal in football terms.

He is not the star man.

Intriguing behavior from him today.

His discussions with Perez before the game and Blanc after the game were certainly intriguing.

Just seen the Blanc thing. Like Rio said, it's not his style.
What happened?
He was seen at the end of the game walking up to Blanc and whispering in his hear. Too obvious, I think. Feck knows what he's up to. It looked very deliberate.

Not sure what the Perez thing was though...

Could have said the same about Lingard for most of his performance today. Constantly trying too much, making poor decisions trying to work shooting positions when a cross would have been better. Running into blind alleys and then playing poor balls etc.

Or maybe it's just a young player making mistakes on the pitch. Who knows?

That whisper to Blanc was certainly interesting.

What was the Perez thing before the game?

What do you define as consistently? I think when need be he still can do it.
As in doing it at least once per game. I see him try sometimes, but the defenders nearly always catch up with him. He's lost a bit of pace and explosiveness.

Compare his dribbling skills to that of any other "poacher" or pure "goal scorer" as he is made out to be.

He was playing like a winger. Lingard actually has the pace to go past players. Depay tried to scored from 70 yards in a recent game FFS and that situation I described was as bad as it gets.

I was highly critical of a lot of Lingard's performance anyway.

Aye. I don't mind Ronaldo's cockyness (pun lol) at all, it's a part of what makes him a compelling character. For those who can't stand Ronaldo's arrogance, I suggest take a look at the conduct of the likes of Memphis - someone who has done jack shit in the game.

Err......I love how you say this, then can cite no actual examples bar him wearing some dodgy clothes.

Right.

Surprised no one has picked up on the fast growing reports of Ronaldo potentially wanting to come back. Its a story being run by all the big news sources and he said he wanted to come back in a recent biography.

Think we're so used of it every summer it's lost any excitement. If Madrid were smart they've move him on, they'd easily get €100m for him now. That price would be worth it, even at 30/31 for the likes of United (success and brand/sponsorships) and PSG mainly for their brand/image.

I'd welcome him back unless he actually was only looking for one last ridiculous pay rise.

Ronaldo is already the record scorer for Madrid right?

Perhaps he wants to come back and have a crack at beating Rooney to charltons record

Meh, I will believe it when it happens. Wouldn't be surprised if it's all just posturing for a new contract.

Ronaldo would fail at Utd. For sure.

His football is just gone, he's just a finisher and I dunno if the team would provide him well enough.

Even I can see that's just a cheap serialisation tactic to sell Balague's book on him.

The greatest PL player ever + Most supported club + possible return = headlines and sales.

I can't take Ballague. Cashing on the success of Pep, Messi, and now Ronaldo. Those first two books didn't even contain any new material or any input from the two. Don't know the deal with the Ronaldo one but suspect the same.

Ronaldo is not the greatest PL player ever.

We'll have to agree to disagree on that topic but just out of interest Rado, who is in your view? It's an entirely subjective metric of course.
