MLS is growing and I believe in about 10 years we will see a very strong league. Sometimes I go watch Philadelphia Union and I really like to see the support they receive.
PSG constantly choke in Europe but every year it's 'this year it's different, they have so much quality'....only to fail againAs much as I'd love Ronaldo back here surely he'd rather have a chance of winning the Champions League one last time and lets be honest he's a much better chance of winning it with PSG than us unless with the addition of him we strengthen a lot (Again) during the summer.
They went out twice to Barça, once to Chelsea, in quarter finals over the last three years. Twice on away goals.PSG constantly choke in Europe but every year it's 'this year it's different, they have so much quality'....only to fail again
How is dropping to a lower level to continue playing football undignified?
I didn't. I'm asking how it's undignified to go finish your career in the MLS.Did you watch the video ? He said he wanted to end his career with dignity, therefore not in one of the aforementioned leagues.
And again, nothing undignified about raising the profile of a new league, having a new experience playing/living in New York/LA and earning some good money too. But I respect Ronaldo's stance too. He wants to be a "big" player till the end. Good for him.People still clinging to the idea that footballers don't play for the money. Some players actually help raise the level of the game at these lower leagues, but yeah.

I'm fine with his reasons. He wants to be a big player till he plays. His wish.Well quite obviously because its considered a retirement league. He wants to finish his career by going out strong in a top league then transition into his various brand/products he's developed. He's already worth over $300m and doesn't need the salary since he makes a boat load off his brands and endorsements and will continue to do so, similar to Jordan.

I'm wondering why you would find someone like Beckham playing in America "undignified". That still isn't obvious nor properly explained. Is finishing at Madrid and "developing your underwear/socks brand" more dignified than playing football in the MLS?
Says an AmericanBecause its a shit league for Americans, near retirees, and players who lack other options.
Thats not really how finance works , and a lot of people seem to have been duped by Florentino Perez into believing that shirt sales cover such an enormous outlay, and it is simply isnt true at all. Not even close.Yep, in 10 years or so it will be up to roughly League of Ireland standard and they will be able to rival the likes of the mighty Sligo Rovers.
Ronaldo not been as bad as everyone in this thread is saying at all. I'd guess we would recuperate a large percentage of the amount paid for him in shirt/merchandise sales. He's obviously one of the most lucrative signings in world football, combine that with United fans' love of him, and the clubs worldwide support and it's definite that we'd make a world record amount of money back from signing him. You could charge £60 for tickets to his unveiling and still probably sell out OT for God sake!.
All this aside though, hoping it does happen. Not often you see characters like him in football and he is one of the best in the world. Would be silly not to take him home.

What are underwear/facepalm brands for then? The Kardashians?
Sometimes even I don't know.WTF are you on about ?

Anyhoo, back to this thread.
There's no "right" or "wrong" about it. If he wants to wrap his career up after Madrid's 11th CL title and work on his clothing brands, good for him. If he wants to do the same, but instead of the clothing brand, play football and live in a different country, then good for him too. Considering playing in a new and less prominent league as "evaporating" is a strange way to look at things. Can't see how clothing brands as the next step is the super dignified thing in comparison. Not that I see any of them as undignified.Do you not see the logic of a great player wanting to go out on top in a top league like Spain or England, perhaps winning a CL or treble. As opposed to evaporating into the sunset in a league where the sport is not even in the top 5 or even worse in a league funded by petro-dollars at the behest of some rich Sheikh who wants to impress his mates at which European footballer he can lure in with a massive salary. There really is no difference between the two options and he's quite right in choosing the first.

And kudos to him. But there's nothing wrong with doing what you enjoy doing even if it's at a lower level. The dignity part has nothing to do with his non-football interests, its about finishing his career at the top and not in some rubbish league that no one respects. He obviously has more than enough money and doesn't need the hassle of attempting to prove himself elsewhere.
To be frank, if how he retires is so much important to him, there's no better place than United. He could retire at Madrid as their leading goal scorer, win another champions league and be forgotten before long. If he comes back to United, wins the league and gives a couple more good seasons, he can retire a legend. I mean hardly a game goes by without the fans singing his name already.
Or he could come back to United and we don't win anything and he plays like shite because he's on the decline and then he's tarnished his reputation...
Came across very well in that interview. Seems to constantly joke about the idea that he loves himself. Also its nice to actually have someone who is clearly soo family orientated no controversy just a big focus on improving his family. Didn't find it particularly boring and is a much more interesting interview than if it was joey barton or some "extroverted" footballer.
i must have missed that. I saw it more happily accepts he is in love with himself
Because he wants to win something at club level and with RM he's failing, everybody knew Benitez was hired for the dirty work. Why the sudden urge to leave? still only 30 and still has a lot to offer....

Except barring exceptions that's pretty much exactly how success tends to work. It rarely comes together immediately.PSG constantly choke in Europe but every year it's 'this year it's different, they have so much quality'....only to fail again
Not this year, with Benitez they will not win any silverwareThis is probably his best opportunity to win a treble in years.
not like they were super successful before.....Not this year, with Benitez they will not win any silverware

He can reunite wth his assists servant, DiMaria
Bad idea imo. We would be signing half the player we sold to Madrid.
