Every time people start saying he's declining or done at the insane level he's set for himself, he comes back like this.

You were robbed with £80m. Madrid have been laughing ever since.

One lucky goal, one non existant penalty and a gift from Bale.

Deflection, penalty, tap-in. 3-0. Just beautiful.

Can't wait until Tuesday. The stadium will be shaking.

That was crazy I was with my son in a Portuguese bar/restaurant and when Eder scored I thought the entire building was coming down, even the Brazilians celebrated with us

I left my home, ran down the street and hugged some strangers that were also celebrating after running out of their house. I wish I had it filmed. The noise that came from all the houses around us was insane. I still get chills thinking about it.

I think this match proves that he should play as a central striker in the twilight of his career. I was pleasantly surprised by the performance, given how bad he's been this season. Hopefully Zizou tells Benz to feck off to the bench already (I know he was on the bench tonight, but also was injured recently)

 ffs, Ronnie. Put a fecking shirt on for once.

Don't mean any offence but that is just laughable.

In terms of his performances I don't think it is.

He's either going to re-invent himself or fall completely off a cliff and until tonight it was very much leaning in the falling off the cliff category.

He's obviously never going to fall into obscurity as a celebrity.

This man will go down as an absolute legend. Top 5/6 player of all time.

At the time no, context is needed. We knew we sold a Ballon d'Or winner but he became something else at Madrid.
He was only going to get better at 24 years of age, everybody with a half a brain knew he was destined for greatness. It's just that at the time 80m was far and beyond what clubs paid for players.

He's a shadow of the player he was, would be surprised if he was still in the Real team in 12 months.

A couple of 3/4 goal matches per season doesn't make him a great player.

He's so past it I wouldn't be surprised if we had him to replace Ibra as that seems to be our strategy these days, Galactico >everything else

Morning Sparky, ready to eat your words yet ? SO PAST IT ! A shadow of the player he was ! now surely you and everyone else will show this guy the respect he deserves in my opinion the best ever but certainly in the top 3.
Viva Ronaldo

He will have broken all European goalscoring records in the big leagues by the time he retires: most goals in Europe, most goals at club level, most international goals. Unique forward.

It is rather about what United invested with that money. All the youngs, Obertans, Smallings, Jones ...

Exactly what I mean.

Now that is depressing ..

His all round play yesterday was good for his standards, the goals were awful but you need some luck sometimes.

Not the best player in the world though top 3 maybe.

His record at Madrid:

361 games
374 goals
120 assists
39 hat tricks

15 goals away from being the highest goal scorer in Europe's top 5 leagues in history.
Leading scorer for Madrid
Leading scorer for Portugal (65 goals) and currently in international football.
550+ goals in his career.
Leading score in UCL history.
118 goals for us.

3 X UCL
3 X PL
1 X FA Cup
2 X League Cup
1 X La Liga
2 X Copa Del Rey
Numerous World club cups and super cups.
1 X Euros with Portugal
4 X Balon D'or (will make it 4 this year).

Anybody who tells me he doesn't deserve to be in the topic of GOAT is lying to themselves.

He's one of the greatest footballers in history but not sure if I'd mention him in the same breath as Maradona or Pelé, if you watch those two on the field and the talent they had and Ronaldo there's a gulf in ability. Ronaldo these days is raw numbers but he doesn't have the talent of those two.

It's strange how all the greats are around 5'6.

Pele, Maradona, Messi all being 5 ft 6, must be the low centre of gravity which makes the change in direction and speed so deadly.

Do you actually believe Ronaldo deserves the Balon d'Or this year by the way? Suárez was a better player over the year.

What a way to answer your critics. Reminds me of another hat-trick against A.Madrid several years back when they were under Mourinho. Real were under intense pressure from Barca for the title and Athletico had them in the ropes throughout the match. But he conjures up a hat-trick to rescue them. This man is unbelievably resilient.

There's no H in Atlético, he's never really had a drought Ronaldo though, he's done a good job on reinventing himself and picking his moments but it'll be interesting to see how Real do in La Liga this year, they just have been a knockout team for quite some time now.

Of course he does, he's been important in Real winning the CL AND bloody Portugal winning the Euros. That's not even getting into his numbers.

Suarez was a better player in the league over the year. But there are many more competitions and games with similar if not greater importance than the league I believe (CL/Euros). If you count all competitions/games/everything together, Ronaldo deserves winning it this year.

Amen brother!

I didn't think Ronaldo was that good at the Euros he had maybe 2 good games, and he was important in a few games in the CL but not all of them, in the final he was a passenger (the CL). I personally do think Suárez should win it but Ronaldo will because it's Ronaldo.

Ronaldo was the best performer in the CL last year but when you look at his goal tally a lot was down to the Malmo game, he had a much lesser influence in the knock-outs, he was good but not a world-beater. Euros he had glimpses like against Hungary but I think Portugal were one of the least impressive sides at the tournament.

We'll see though, this year it's still a popularity contest but International Journalists vote this time, coaches and players do not vote anymore which is nice to see. Obviously there'll still be some bias in the votes but I do think the monopoly will be broken eventually and over the course of the season Suárez I feel was the best player.

It depends if you are looking at team honours or the actual individual performances though.

Bloody Portugal has made the semis of the Euros in 4 of the last 5 tournaments. And it could have easily been 5 in 5. Or 6 in 6.

Not exactly the perfect hatrick-but credit where its due.

Not exactly Messi esque was it though.

I see him as the greatest pure goalscorer in history but a tier below messi/pele/maradona/cruyff and a few others in terms of overall footballing ability.

That's the issue with Ronnie it's all on paper . not taking anything away from those numbers they are phenomenal.
