David Moyes | West Ham in talks with him for managerial job

He might have chosen a form of an awkward joke, yet the message it contained was quite hostile and menacing. Whether it was said in jest or not threatening to use physical advantage against woman isn't cool in the slightest, it's unacceptable (unless you're actually getting assaulted by a crazed chick). After the naughty part I'm not surprised that the reporter kept on laughing.

Surprise! British manager is out of touch, and is precious about criticism.

My take is that it's sexist because he would never dare say the same to a man. Can you imagine threatening a guy with a slap and he gets punched in the face?

Wouldn't he though? I don't think it's beyond the realms of possibility. Even if you assume he wouldn't say that to a man, the reason for that is probably because it isn't noteworthy in the first place. "Don't think I won't slap you just because you're a man?" It wouldn't make any sense really.

There was nothing nice about him at United. His constant belittling of players in media was awful as it was a title winning squad who just won no. 20.
Oh I know that, which made it all more galling when the press kept pushing this narrative down everyone's throat. Opposition fans believed this crap too. Unfortunately for Sunderland fans, they are finding out the hard way exactly what he's like.

You can't go around threatening physical violence against anyone, man or women. He just wouldn't have the guts to make that kind of threat to a man. A man would threaten him back or just trying lain land him a punch.

I've had a chance to hear the incident now and it was said in jest but the message was clear.

Know your place basically.

I know you can't, and I don't believe he did. People make jokey threats like this all the time, to men and women. It seems pretty obvious he was joking to me.

This comment might have been considered tongue in cheek if anyone else delivered it, but when you have the charm of a weetabix you'll never manage to convey it in such a matter.

Dour cnut should just stay away from anything press related and let Sunderlands PR people handle it.

David Moyes..... how to be a kernob, Lesson 136.

Not being smart after the event (my posts on him were consistent). Never thought he was "a good guy in unfortunate circumstances" as some media (and fans) said.

Always came across as out of his depth (which can happen) but his comments at times regularly felt like he was trying to sound funny, but just not smart enough to disguise it. His comments about some United players, his press interviews..... Always felt like he wanted to blame someone else (players, opposition, ref, media) and came across as sullen and unable to accept blame.

If I was the Sunderland board, I'd be having a party..... chance to sack him for misconduct (instead of for being sh!te)

Moyes makes a soggy weetabix look like a three course Italian meal.

He was obviously joking but the PC brigade NEVER miss a chance . If only strikers were as clinical we would have games ending 10 - 5.

Well, I have to say, I was expecting you earlier, but this post is pathetic!

I would have thought we could expect a 500 word post from you at least.

You must have mellowed in your old age.
So are you saying a joke can't be sexist? Or are you just ignoring @Alex99's very valid and relevant point to further some imaginary culture war that's being waged in your head? IDGI.

Once you can put it down to joking, a second time you cant.
If Jose had said it it would be all over the sports channels by now.
Keys and Gray were sacked comments made to a female official, I actually think what Moyes said is worse.
Jose said something VERY much worse ,dont you remember.

Just saw the footage and Christ, the worst part isn't the comment itself but the very fact David Moyes attempts humour. Like, actually tries to be funny. He has the comedic timing of a dead badger.

You'll be out of them full stop any more of that.

Kidding. I can take humour. While sobbing. Silently.

Stupid comment but calling for him to be fired because of it is just stupid.

Why do people think he was just joking? Because he did a pretend laugh? He wasn't joking at all, just presenting it as such, because she was a female.

He wasn't literally threatening to slap her but the language is still threatening and sexist.

Do you not think he was just joking? A cretinous and offensive joke but a joke nonetheless. Depressingly predictable calls for his head on a spike. He's just an insensitive tool.

Would he have threatened to slap a bloke, and speak to a man in the same derogatory way? Would he feck.

Hope he gets fired and is consigned to the realms of history where he belongs. An odious cretin.

Moyes is an alpha male he was just asserting his dominance.

No doubt he mounted the fair maiden soon after.

I don't think anyone believes he was actually threatening her. The problem is more do you think he would have said the exact same thing to a male journalist?

And your analogy isn't quite the same as you have an existing relationship with your boss and you work at the same company. This woman has nothing to do with Sunderland, has no history with Moyes and was just doing her job in a professional manner and he decides to try and be funny because shes a female.
I actually think manager, including our own are often unnecessarily confrontational to the often male reporters & journos and we all lap it up. Didn't LVG call Custis fat and we all laughed? Imagine if had said that to a woman reporter.

I really hate Moyes and usually take any opportunity to put the boots to him, but in this case, I don't think he did much wrong.

There was no malice or intent, he responded the same tongue in cheek way I would to someone suggesting Slippy was better than Scholes. He's an idiot for not being aware enough that if someone heard him they'd make a meal of it, but he clearly had no intention of slapping someone.

Whichever way you look at it, joking or not, male or female, he was wrong and naive to say it, as others have said imagine if jose had said it or if any of us said it to a work colleague, him or us would be crucified.

Simple thing is, he's useless with the media and the fact he's a dinosaur adds to this, the bloke is a complete cretin and people saying he's hard working, honest, a nice guy etc are wrong, he's only out for himself and there's so many times he's screwed other people over to protect himself it's ridiculous.

But I still hate van bullshit more .

He even called the reporter 'girl' during today's press conference.

This rings true for me:

TLW said:
Dinosaur, "PC gone mad", "it was just a bit of banter" stuff, some of this.

The message was clear for all to see. Nobody is suggesting he would have actually given her a clip, but he's clearly letting her know her place and how to behave next time.

He's not had to make a chastened public apology about it because people on a forum have picked up on what a snidey thing it was to do. He's had to do so because it's 2017 and that sort of outmoded bollocks doesn't fly anymore, journalist or not.

I agree but the fact the media is making a big deal of this and he was out of line does give Sunderland a nice out if they do want rid of him .

This alone isn't reason to sack him, but this on top of being utterly appalling at his job more than justifies sacking him, I reckon.

 Storm in a teacup about a harmless throwaway comment.

God no. Then we'd hear all about how he wasn't allowed to finish the job and it wasn't his fault they went down. I want him to fail because of football reasons only.
