So just to summarise...DDG is staying for another season...correct?
Because we didn't get the deal done in time?
If so, this is excellent news.

Madrid could try and buy him in January, but I think there's a looming transfer ban for next summer so we'd hold all the cards.

That would be fecking hilarious. If that happens we'll have the upper hand in January. It's hard to imagine that DDG will miss year and a half at least of pro football.

Depends if it's just Madrid or if he's now so alienated he wants out to anywhere.

If Madrid wanted him that badly they should have coughed up initially. They dragged it out by haggling, they have only themselves to blame.

Be hilarious if they are transfer banned next year.

It'll almost certainly go through imo. Madrid will find a way to push it through.. its what they do.

They could and if we still wanted Navas, both would be banned from Europe (assuming they play in the CL) should they leave.

"The main thing is that we're still going to end up with your best player again. See you guys when its time to grab Memphis in a few years:D."

Got this from that Madrid forum. We've got RAWK goes into meltdown. Can we have 'Dickish things Madrid fans say'?

God some of those Madrid fans are precious, nothing is there fault, it's always the other clubs who are bad Guys, and when they can't win an argument they resort to smirks like "we will get Memphis in some years hahaha".
Big talk when they can't even sign a Untied player we actually signed over to them.
From the biggest slam dunk you can think of in signing David and they have ended up being strong armed into spending 10m a year on Ramos and
Pissing off their former, present and future goal keepers.
Playing second fiddle to Barca has really fried their heads

We have got some revenge this summer

I'd play him now. Even with his head up his own arse he's still better than Romero.

Can someone summarise what happened?

1. We were meant to get Keylor Navas + £30m and DdG going the other way.

2. It fell through because there was a fax issue/paper jam??

And @Olly

Everything was in place for Navas +£29m but it may have fallen through because the documents weren't passed onto the LFP before the deadline. United did their bit in clearing the transfer with FIFA in time before the window closed, but Madrid sent the document almost half an hour late for whatever reason. Now they're trying to explain the delay was down to a technical error and the transfer should still go through. Seems unlikely.

I didn't think the fake lawyers from the first time we tried to sign Herrera would ever be topped as far as Deadline Day ridiculousness goes. At this point, it's just become hilarious.

Funny as feck but I'm still expecting this transfer to go through.

There's no way this deal isn't happening in some shape or form, even if it involves a loan.

I imagine that Madrid have greased enough palms at FIFA over the years to ensure this happens.

They are saying the documents were password protected, so they could not open them. Unless they had to do something with those documents they should have just sent them on.

Only if we play him

We will, and even if we don't Madrid will play Navas so that complicates things further.

That said, as funny as it all is, I'll be shocked if the deal isn't pushed through.

I don't think FIFA are involved at this stage - it's either the LFP or UEFA who have to sign off on it. As it's been reported on publicly step by step I don't think they'll be able to wriggle out of this one very easily and all the football associations are very concerned about their image of corruption so they'll tread very carefully here.

I think that's just another joke to add fuel to the fire. The people involved in these things are not that incompetent - they'll all have done this before.

I'd actually be bummed out if it is true. I don't see him playing for us either way, specially after this and we'll be left with Romero as our first choice goalkeeper. Navas is no De Gea but he certainly gives me more confidence than Romero.

This whole ordeal is slowly turning into a pissing contest on who's fault it was.

[x] Computer virus
[x] Password protected
[x] Wrong format. LFP could not open it
[x] Reasons

Makes you wonder why it happened, this cant be incompetence. Saw a poll earlier that a lot of Madrid fans were not happy about signing him. Is it possible there is an Athlecio fan working for Real and they decided to mess things up?

Good. I hope you're right

Things work a bit different in Spain, from what I remember from the Herrera fiasco they have a lot of control over transfers are dont accept any nonsense. The rumour was we were trying to get him for less than the buyout clause, but the buyout clause has to be registered with LFT as part of the players registration. They wont allow deals through that are under the buyout clause.

It's getting nasty over in that Madrid forum

They're actually hurting, they'll act all like oh we're happy with Navas and just get DDG on a free next year so we win! Woohoo!

But deep down inside, they're mega pissed off
