I'd rather keep De Gea. As it is, we might be getting a new starting CB and RB. If was change our keeper as well, that's gonna bring a lot of instability to our backline for at least the first one or two months. We cannot afford a slow start, and we don't really need that 25mil euro.
I hope he's at least professional enough to give us another great season, because that's the least we deserve from him.

True. I also don't think he holds any ill feeling for the club, and has a genuine affection for United. I imagine he knew playing one final season here was a real possibility. I think he'd have been kicking up a fuss in the summer otherwise.

Legally it is possible but it never happens, I believe clubs have an agreement to not use the webster rule or sign players who used it.

He can theoretically do that (though I am not sure if that rule is for everyone or only for players over 28). But then you know, Ramos can do the same and get 20m signing on fee from United to 'compensate' for it. And so can do many other clubs/players.
Which would make the situation shit for clubs cause for players they can get tens of millions, now will get only a few millions. And so they would be forced to give long expensive contracts.
In order to avoid that, clubs have a gentleman agreement to not do so, cause in the end the long term consequences will be far worse than the short term gains. Assuming of course that they can do that in the first place (which I am sure will be quite difficult and will need a long legal battle).

Is it? Have you seen any quotes from anyone at United or Real, or from De Gea himself? I haven't. Reliable journos have suggested he wants a move to Real and it's quite obvious there's something happening, but I wouldn't say it's clear at all. The fact he says he's calm suggests to me that although he might love to play in Madrid, near his girlfriend and in his home city, he wouldn't be devastated should he play another season at least in Manchester.
Your second point isn't really relevant to my post. I said he should show some respect for what the club did for him by coming out and saying what he wants, not by wanting to spend the rest of his career here.
No, he can't. To use the Webster ruling a player has to put it in writing at the end of the season. The actual compensation figure would then go to arbitration using CAS. Even if Madrid wanted to break the "gentleman's agreement" not to use Webster clause releases, it can't now happen in DdG's case, he left it too late.

Lindegaard played 24 games combined those 2 seasons, compared with De Gea's 80 games.
De Gea was chosen as EPL best keeper in his second season here. In the first half of his first season he made a few mistakes, but he was spectacular on his second half of the season. He has been the best keeper in EPL for at least 3 seasons (I would say 3.5 seasons).

I'm not disputing the fact that it was obvious he had talent, otherwise we wouldn't have spent £20m on him. I'm simply saying he had a tough start, and United fans, staff and management backed him over the years to succeed - and he did.
Regarding your point, Varun, about how the way he's handling this situation is more respectful than saying it how it is, I'm afraid I have to disagree. In my opinion, he's not talking to the press in any shape or form because he wants to keep United as an option to fall back on, which isn't very fair on us considering what we've given him.

Re the 2nd part, yes, he isn't saying it in public for 2 reasons, 1 - It's totally unnecessary as the ones that need to know already do and all it will do is make the entire thing ugly. 2 - Exactly what you said. We know that btw and it isn't disrespectful because again, the people at the club know it and would rather keep him if possible though we know Madrid are his 1st choice. It isn't disrespectful, just works for both parties. Why is it unfair?
